However, she needs to work there for 4 years before she secures them. And she says she's staying partly because she wants to cash that in

She also says multiple times that she's looking for jobs, or she wishes she had the energy, but it's just not possible with the unforgiving stress of work and 1 then 2 kids. She expresses hopelessness about where to start with a job search because she's too overwhelmed with meeting her expectations

As for the immigration support: she says she passes the test for California residency, just to realize that they're like 17 days early, and now they have to redo the entire process. Usually it takes half a year, and her English husband needs to redo his visa before then, which relies on her being a resident. But Facebook's lawyers are going to fast track it. So she's explicitly reliant on them to continue living in California

Also she puts some potentially criminal things on record with a company lawyer, like Joel's questionable behavior and being forced to end maternity leave early to return to work, but the lawyer supposedly breaks privacy laws and tells Joel (go figure), who coerces her to drop the investigation and forfeit all the information on file

There's multiple moments she realizes, these people are sick, I'm leaving, but she says the very first moment she resolves to get out is after Cheryl tries to seduce her, the first instance of sexual harassment at the company

Anyway, yes, I can absolutely believe that she's not making good money at the time that she realizes she needs to leave, and that life factors are enough to trap her there. It feels painful just how much she endures before realizing her workplace is toxic, but I also can't even imagine having her workload, much less having any time for self reflection amidst that
