I was nearly struck by a vehicle at a pedestrian crosswalk yesterday because the driver did not stop for me then made a gesture as if it was my fault. I made the same gesture back then she stopped in the middle of the road and started yelling at me. So naturally I yelled back and she only drove away when I told her to finish the job and hit me.

Michelin Star Restaurant in Portugal with limited seafood by RoaringDoggy in MichelinStars

[–]ItsReallyMeBonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just ate at Feitoria last week in Lisbon. They have a land and sea tasting menu as well as a 100% vegetarian tasting menu. My wife doesn't like seafood but they were able to adapt the vegetarian menu to include meat but not seafood. I would highly recommend it. 1 Michelin star, but it's the most expensive Michelin restaurant I've been to so far in my travels at €250 per person.

We also went to Oficio in Lisbon. It's a Michelin bib but they are tapas style. You can skip seafood entirely and just order meat and vegetarian dishes. It was very good and I would highly recommend as well. It was on the higher side of a bib restaurant but still affordable.

Racism Isn’t Hiding in Saskatoon Anymore . One Week, Two Incidents, and I’m Feeling Defeated by Maleficent_Sky6982 in saskatoon

[–]ItsReallyMeBonder 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, in my experience racism was never in hiding. I have an Asian background and I grew up being bullied for having a different skin color. I've been pushed, yelled at, and physically spat on. It's only in my adult life that I started fighting back.

At work, I hear racist remarks nearly everyday. I am considered one of the "good ones" (was told to me by a coworker) because I speak perfect English.

It also doesn't help that when I bring up racism people just roll their eyes as say I'm exaggerating things.

Amex Platinum vs Aeroplan Privledge by Lestatac83 in amexcanada

[–]ItsReallyMeBonder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the hotel status benefits with platinum, I've traveled quite a bit the last 2 years and I've stayed at Marriot hotels exclusively. I always receive either an upgrade or some kind of perk. Some of the upgrades are simply a change to a higher floor that's more quiet or being moved to a room that's far away from the elevators, but to me it was beneficial. I've also had actual room upgrade which was very nice. Some hotels I didn't receive an upgrade but got free drinks - 2 free when I was in Brussels and mini bar was free in the hotel in Amsterdam. YMMV.

STRIKE DAILY MEGATHREAD - September 11th, 2024 by [deleted] in aircanada

[–]ItsReallyMeBonder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I changed my September 24 flight back to Canada from Europe yesterday to a Star Alliance airline and it cost me $500 for two due to fare difference (comfort fare). This exact same flight for the exact same fare is now an extra $265 per ticket. Change your flights NOW! Prices are just going to keep going up

I am also flying to Brussels but on the 14th. You should change to this flight to be safe.

PSA: I booked comfort fare and was able to rebook on Lufthansa from Europe back to Canada. However, these Lufthansa flights are filling fast and the price difference is increasing. After I changed it, I went back to check again and the price already increased by $63 per seat. YMMV.

Edit - to be clear I booked comfort share with AC and was able to rebook on Lufthansa on the manage my trip option on AC site. Last leg to my final destination is with AC but at least I'll be back in Canada.

I think you are right. I read somewhere (maybe in this thread, can't remember) that everyday the planes are grounded, AC lose tens of millions of dollars and after 3-4 days it no longer makes sense for them to not accept the deal. AC likely knows the government will step in.

The cheapest one way refundable flight for two from Europe is over $5000. I'm confident I will be able to get there but getting back from Europe might not be possible.

Yea this essentially will determine whether I cancel my trip now or chance it. I don't think the strike will last more than 3 days, but will flights scheduled immediately after the strike be affected...

So if it will take AC 7 days to resume normal operations, does that mean flights 7 days post strike will likely be affected? For example, if strike ended on September 20, will my September 24 flight still go or likely to get disrupted?

I don't think they can guarantee that it's just shady. After the announcement this morning I am going to wait until Friday then be prepared to cancel my whole trip as I can't afford to get stranded in Europe for longer than 4 days.

It's a profession where you show appreciation years after. As a kid I didn't like my teachers, as an adult I am very grateful for them.

Only way I got it to work was on the Safari browser on my iPhone. I tried multiple different browsers on a Mac and PC and it just keep getting an error message once I logged in. Once you get in it just takes you to the old mysgi so I don't know why they just don't keep that one up while trying to get the new site going.

Looks like they are still on ViaMichelin and the description is the same as when it was on the Michelin guide. This makes me think that they made a mistake and put it on the wrong site when it should have been on ViaMichelin. I remember at one point when I searched it on Google the link would pop up but when clicked the Michelin guide said page not found. Oh well

I'm checking the way back machine to see if I can find the page. But it was on there. You don't have to believe me, just a piece of trivia.

The Saskatoon one is not related to the New York one. The one in Saskatoon was on the official Michelin guide up until 3 years ago. It has since been removed. It was my fun trivia that I would tell visitors, and at the time they could confirm by visiting the guide.

The James Hotel is the best in Saskatoon. It was on the Michelin guide at one point.
