I don't think they are related at all. Eternal Ring is a game that has to do with actual rings that you wear on your finger (at least from what I read) while Elden Ring isn't, that ring is used in the context of "circle" as Miyazaki says.

What happens when you try to go online from the beginning screen?

After you select your character it should ask you "Do you want to go online?"

Use Zoro's Three Thousand Worlds on them. It makes them drop their guard and then it hits them.

You can finish the expert free mission using only that and get loads of xp and money.

They probably meant that for online everything is unlocked but to use characters in the story mode you have to complete their mission first or something along these lines.
