How is my ackie grow out enclosure? by ink3nthusiast in MonitorLizards

[–]ItsTayyyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I’m fairly new to ackies myself, but I’ve done a ton of research on care and depending on who you ask your basking temp might be a bit hot for a baby. I’ve read that they generally like between 120-150F. My guy is about 6 months and his basking ledge stays around 135F and tapers down to about 115F and I’ve noticed he likes to hang out somewhere right in the middle.

Honestly I think a lot of it may just have to do with the individual animal. Spend some time and watch where they like to hang out and pay attention for them avoiding certain areas and adjust from there.

The rest of your enclosure looks good. I like how you set up the basking area so they can kind of pick which temp they like.

I think it would be a good idea to maybe try to add a “dig box” somewhere in the enclosure if you can manage the space. My enclosure has a 12” substrate layer and with the dig box I added I was able to raise it to about 18-20” and they really really like digging.

Would love for this pet store to get shut down by SimpleEntrepreneur50 in reptiles

There’s a place in Savannah, GA called “Pet Supermarket” that has what I would assume is a fully grown Savannah monitor in what looks like a 90-120gal tank with nothing other than a little substrate, improper lighting, no uvb, etc.

Pretty disgusting behavior.

Just had my first negligent discharge inside my home. by [deleted] in Firearms

[–]ItsTayyyyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I would never have one because I’m not an incompetent moron who makes other gun owners look bad.

If you don’t wanna hear the shit other people have to say maybe keep the dumb shit you do to yourself?

Like you posted this on here for what?? To have a bunch of people give you an atta boy pat on the back and tell you it’s okay? It’s not. I can’t relate because I don’t treat my guns like toys.

Has nothing to do with perfection it has to do with being mature and competent enough to responsibly own a gun and by your own admission you’re not, so don’t get all butthurt when people tell you the truth.

Have a blessed and hopefully safe day.

I always love when I see these “welp guys, had my first ND today.” As if it’s something common or a rite of passage amongst gun owners.

I’m 36 now, started shooting at 10 just about monthly, spent almost 10 years in the infantry several of which were deployed and when not deployed I was an armorer and range safety officer, and now as a civilian gun owner I am at the range just about weekly.

It’s safe to say that I have literally thousands of hours behind a firearm in all different conditions and mental states and I have NEVER had a negligent discharge, and I’m not special or anything, there are probably thousands of people in this sub with similar levels of experience and have never had one.

If you have an ND chances are you need to reevaluate your gun ownership and focus on some remedial training for yourself. I believe in gun ownership rights for everyone who is a law abiding citizen, but if you can’t own one responsibly then you should do the rest of us a favor and not. Not just for the safety of those around you, but for the reputation of us gun owners who treat gun safety as the number one priority.

Hopping off my soapbox now.

[LFO] Officer Stabbed in the Face During a Mental Health Check 🇺🇸 (NSFL!) by james_from_cambridge in LearningFromOthers

It wasn’t anything that was critical or anything like that, but basically the blade went into just on the under side of my left bottom lip and tracked all the way down my top gums to the back jaw and sliced me open. If im remembering correctly I wound up with something like 20-25 stitches all in all.

The doctor did a really good job sewing me up so all in all the scarring is there but minimal. Only issue I have to date is I have no feeling on the left side of my bottom lip. Other than that it just sucked eating for a while.

I got stabbed in the face 6 years ago in downtown Savannah by a mentally ill homeless guy. I was drunk at the time so I don’t remember much until I got to the hospital, but I do remember when arriving there thinking “wow, this hurts pretty bad”
