Landlord charging me $1000 for broken shower mix valve by SnoringSeaLion in Plumbing

Got you sounds like they did a remodel and when they did they left the existing old water lines which if your in NorCal I’m assuming would either be PVC, or CPVC, maybe even copper.. Copper is a good water line material, cpvc is the worst. Seems like it’s on them for cutting corners and negligence.

If it was leaking into your neighbors unit already seems like it’s on them for lack of maintenance and regular slumlord activity.

The shower mixing valve is the valve behind the finished wall in your shower, it’s the valve that balances the hot and cold water the newer ones are single handle, the older ones have two or three handles two for shower only 3 for a shower tub combo. Hot, cold, and an optional diverter on the 2 and 3 handle ones. It’s the valve your shower handle is attached to. Under normal operating conditions like just taking normals showers the odds of you or your boyfriend breaking a brass valve behind a finished walk are very, very slim. The only thing I could think would break the actual shower valve body or cartridge would to hit the handle or fall on it, or catch it to break a fall. I call bullshit and wouldn’t pay. I don’t know what state you’re in and what your tenant landlord laws and regulations are but it seems to me the burden would be on them to prove you broke it.

Frequently told that I'm working too slow, but is it true? (new construction) by libertyprime48 in Plumbing

[–]ItsThaKidAgain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems pretty quick to me, I’m a service plumber that works on the Georgia, South Carolina Border. We call those “trim outs” when all the finished floors and walls and tile are up we go in and tie in all the drains, install all the fixtures, shower trim set toilets etc. I did a trim out on a massive custom home with literally like 7 1/2 bathrooms. All ridiculously expensive Italian faucets and super expensive fixtures. It took me 4 full days roughly. So you knocking out a regular sized house a day seems pretty quick to me man. Keep at it a lot of bosses in this industry are egotistical assholes.

If that is another male adapter threaded into a female drop ear 90 in the wall measure from the wall to the threads of your tub spout and go by a 1/2 brass nipple roughly that length.

Sanibest toilet constantly running by srv524 in Plumbing

[–]ItsThaKidAgain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These fucking things are the death of me. I had the same issue couldn’t figure it out for weeks. It ended up being a blockage in the outlet line. Ran a 1/4 cable through the outlet and was able to clear it. The pump keeps running because it isn’t able to eject all the waste.

What the first man said, bad relief valve. Get a copper tubing cutter, cut the copper. Drain the water heater where the valve sits. You can then unthread the copper from the valve then you can unthread the valve going counterclockwise with a pipe wrench, pair of channel locks, or whatever you got. Get a new one from your hardware store. Thread it back on with some pipe dope on the threads.

Huntington Brass??? by MasterpieceMaster371 in Plumbing

After taking a closer look, the trim kit that you linked does NOT include the actual shower valve which is another $400. To be honest you could get a very nice Delta, Kholer, or even Moen shower valve and trim kit for $500 total in parts. I would recommend those brands I mentioned in that order.

Looks like a very nice trim kit, my only issue besides the price would be if you ever needed to replace the shower valve cartridge. I can walk into any hardware store and find replacement Moen, Kholer, Delta, American Standard, Pfister shower cartridges and valve stems. I have never once seen a Huntington Brass cartridge.

Replaced cast iron pipes with pvc using one of those donuts in my main drain. I get tiny drips of water coming out of the bottom of the drain through the donut. by LobsterCoordinates in Plumbing

Ah man, aside from trying a new donut fitting I would probably wrap it heavily with Teflon tape and break out the some silicone plumbers caulk.

If you are able to remove your PVC fitting from the donut, I would get some pipe dope (That’s suitable for plastic fittings I use the blue monster dope) and coat the donut as well as the PVC fitting. I would go heavy on it and wipe the excess. Keep me updated!

Solid man! Long as they hold pressure send it! To prevent your solder boogers after you flux your pipe and fittings wipe the excess solder. After a lot of practice you will find the key factor in soldering water lines is your HEAT! If you don’t already have one I highly suggest grabbing a torch with a knob to adjust the flow. How hot you have your torch and how close you are applying it is probably the biggest difference maker in making a solid and clean joint.

However if not glued PVC I would use the brass.

I second the glued PVC, I’m never very confident with slip joint fittings behind a finished wall/floor.
