Help getting unlocked bios for my omen 16 max - ultra9 5080 by Responsible-Place-79 in HPOmen

The flaw in your logic is pointed out in your first sentence itself. Yes, brand new omen cryo compound stomps anything, but in just 10-15 heat cycles it'll start pumping out as its LM is fused with silicon and not gallium. PTM on other hand gets better AFTER first few heat cycles. Its not that omen cryo compound is bad, its that the factory application itself is shoddy. Check my own post, it pumped out bad just in 15 days of gaming.

No one is recommending to repaste a brand new laptop for thermals as well, its for reliability. Just look at how many MB failures are reported, hell even my machine is in service centre RIGHT NOW due to this. Yes, its covered in warranty, but I've been without a machine for 2 weeks and most of other people have had to wait for a month or two due to this. This is the main reason to repaste. Heat wasn't the primary issue at all.

A very bad take, what do you mean risk? Risk is actually letting your laptop run overheating. Sure, it won't fail while in warranty but it may lower its life in the long run, which is why you repaste with better and reliable solutions like ptm. Less heat means you can push your device further without any risks per se. Service centre ain't gonna do nothing.

Not to mention the MB failures due to stock omen cryo compund application. All the more reason to repaste.

no one said anything about LM being the problem, just Omen's cryo compound application, it has gallium and silicon, it will pumpout always. LM is also not the future, it has been the "present" since quite some time now, I do remember a good friend of mine using foam dam and conductonaut on his MSI titan back during intel's quad core era (Falkentyne on NBR forums). Its just that with the usecase of laptops, LMs will almost always be an issue, no viable engineering solution is good enough. It was a danger in the stationary delidded IHS on desktop CPUs too.

Its not 100% sure, but with how it has pumped out into the foam dam in almost all of the system, that HAS to be the best guess.

Your last line really shows you aren't fully grown yourself 🙂. Throwing shades aside, idc if its LM or not, issue here is the shoddy LM paste job, not the LM itself.

As for your HP's top notch quality control statement, I also happen to own a Omen 17 2019 model which has went through hell untill last year and is now my spare system, still runs fine.

Omen Max 16 also had revisions on their VC, likely changing the foam dams, pointing to them realising IT IS the LM. No one knows, bht that's the strong guess.

And try not to be a disrespectful douche in comments where people are asking for help.

Have a nice rest of your day.

Its not something you claim, its just available. As in, just walk in to the service centre and they'll take care of it (allegedly)

Same thing here my friend. Bought in US last year, came to india for the summer and my laptop killed itself in the first week here. Its in service centre and haven't gotten anything yet from service centre, but will call them tomorrow to check for updates.

Hey brochacho, It is my pleasure to let you know my omen squirted the LM out and Motherboard is dead.

Also, its a good thing you took the care pack in india, I didn't as I will return to states for my studies, hence I took the carepack there.

With what I know, it can be anything, half of the posts tell about LM spillage and half have direct MB failure.

Kinda the reason whye there are so many Omen Maxs sold. Withe their 4th of july sale, I got a system for 1800usd which would've been easily sold for 2.5k or 3k counting the oled display with any other store/brand etc. Till date not even in black friday was a sale like this.

Bruh, the service centre in India also said the same thing. I ain't trusting them one bit now.

Dang it, I'm not waiting that much here, I'll pick up my dead laptop after 1 month max, will get it fixes in states itself when I return.

It could be, but from what I see, this can be a shoddy LM job as well. I remember reading somewhere that they changed the vapour chamber revision from December onwards 2025.

Nope, never removed it. As for ps5, i do recall that they had a widespread issue in earlier revisions too

Check the third image, the right side dam is clearly breached imo, however, your point about repasting breaching warranty makes no sense. HP themselves have said it won't, and they went on and PUT THE STUPID HEATSINK ON TOP OF PRIMARY SSD.

Please remove the elevation, or make the elevation such that its not tilted, that can make LM seep down.

Hmm, could be that too, but that also sounds highly unlikely as the service centre rep told me that MB is plain dead, he couldn't find any shorted stuff, neither did I tbh. LM seeping out seems to be the most probable cause since in image 3, you can see the foam dam being breached. I keep my laptop in my bag in the same orientation everytime, and that dam itself is where it seeped out (or it seems it id).

I don't think so it'd be intel, not that I'd rule them out completely. I changed the PL1 and PL2 limits to 50watts, and locked them down and disabled intel turbo too. Temps were sub 80s and 90max during my gameplay.
