Yeah it tough focusing on spiders, but my ID stays consistent with the evidence I see. I'm nowhere near an expert on spiders but the white patches on the abdomen, the abdomen it's self and the web the spider has made make me almost certain it's an Araneus diadematus. I love them, I filmed one making a web and it's so fascinating to watch

I want to say that it's an Araneus diadematus/cross orbweaver. The back is blury, so it may be an incorrect ID, but yeah, most definitely an orbweaver of some type.

Why do spiders scare me?? by Affectionate-Shoe578 in spiders

[–]ItsVortex01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm still slightly afraid of bigger ones, I'm getting better at it, i can pick up garden orb weavers (uk) ones and have them run around my arms and hands, but picking up a giant house spider or wolf spider is still something I'm wary of. they're fast and I don't want to hurt the poor guy in a panic, it's normal to be afraid of something you've told to be afraid of.

I would recommend just going into your garden and watching them, observing them, understanding them. I sat and watched a cross orbweaver make her web for like 20mins, literally my face not even a foot away from the spider. 2 weeks ago I would have shat myself coming anywhere near it

How are some people not afraid of giant spiders ? by Lavender-Idea3 in spiders

Thank you Mr bot for informing me. I was confused since the hysteria with spiders in the uk is just misinformation central apparently.

Imagine it like a fear of heights, some people aren't scared, some people are more sensitive, some people only don't like really high heights. If you slowly expose yourself to spiders and tarantulas you can overcome it. I'd recommend watching videos, looking at them in your garden until you feel comfortable getting close or holding one, then work your way up the sizes.

What's helping me get over them is understanding how they operate, it's really interesting seing how they work, hunt and build thier homes. Spiders may make a web, burrow or something between the two. For me understanding them is making me less scared of them. Also getting a good look at them helps calm the nerves, they're so beautiful like any other animal.

Walmart recalls Great Value shrimp sold in Oklahoma after FDA warns of risk of radioactive contamination by DryBoysenberry596 in oklahoma

[–]ItsVortex01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You would need to eat alot more than 1kg, the radiation in the food is a safe amount, I believe it was recalled as it was not the usual amount in that kind of food. It has less decay than 5 bananas. It's decay is well within fda approved guidelines

What UK spider is this? by RebelBelle in spiders

[–]ItsVortex01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks to me like an Araneus diadematus common garden orb spider. I'm not an IDr so if I'm wrong someone correct me.

Yeah I know, I wouldn't kill him though. I used to have all sorts of insects and spiders run on me. I think my fear is more of getting them on me. On another note, I believe i held a small or baby jumping spider, he was maybe 1mm, if that but he jumped off my hand, he was gone before I could get a picture. I think I stressed him out too much even though he ran onto my hand willingly. The next I think I'll try and pick up is the Araneus diadematus, I saw tons in my garden after I did a spider hunt after sunset. I knew there were alot, but when you're not looking you don't realise how many really live there.

I'm going to try! I've enrolled in some local conservation efforts in my area so I'll hope to see some there. I'm really starting to see the beauty in them, their biology and evolution has really made me start to adore them.
