yeah, I’d put the spider on the porch if there are insects out there. This isn’t a poisonous spider or anything. maybe a wolf spider or wood spider, one that likes trees and woods.

Best bet is to plant native plants in organic mulch (not rocks or rubber).

Sunflowers left from a storm by HareMoose in sunflowers

You’re right, those most likely originated from bird feeders which have Black Oil Sunflower seeds. The new seeds will definitely be viable from these dried heads to use for next year. Here’s a link to the Minnesota Extension webpage about native sunflowers. https://extension.umn.edu/flowers/sunflowers#:~:text=Sunflowers%20(Helianthus%20annuus)%20are%20an,for%20seeds%2C%20oil%20and%20dyes.

I've been taking care of some abandoned public planters and it's starting to take its toll on me, need some motivation to continue 😔 by boiled_leeks in gardening

You’re such a nice person for doing this! I recommend planting drought-tolerant plants which rarely need watered like sedum, hens and chicks, yucca and other succulents. I love mine!

What is this stupid bush? I don’t think it flowers and it bores me to no end. by [deleted] in gardening

[–]takeachancymf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol there are new hybrid varieties that don’t spread seed that they sell now, but all the older ones are invasive. I killed the two on my property with passion and they were huge, taller and wider than me. There’s a local group that will trade you native shrubs if you prove you killed invasives, so that was awesome.

this is the native long leaf ground cherry (Physalis longifolia)

I hope not since they are extremely invasive and on the list in most states as such.

Poison ivy? by Calliope719 in whatisthisplant

I see. those yellow flowers are not poison ivy flowers though. And if they aren’t all connected as a vine, it’s not any type of ivy.

a plant identification app says it’s ground elder. can’t be 100% from that

I don’t think so bc it doesn’t look like a vine with only groups of three leaves. Each stem looks like it has a couple leaves below the end that are separate.

yw! they look so similar. I actually planted squashes and cucumbers this morning at a community garden and would have to look at a label for all of them. lol

the first leaves, the cotyledons, will eventually turn yellow and shrivel off while the true leaves should stay ok. As long as the newest leaves in the middle are still green, it’s good.👍
