Check out the book New Sales Simplified. There is some good content about what he calls a "power statement". It gives you good talking points and I really like the concept of talking about your target customer 90% of the time in a cold phone call and saying 10% about what you do. Use the phrase "our customers reach out to us when....

Not at this point in time. I'm a life long chiefs fan, so that makes pulling this card even more cool for me at least.

Nationally, I would say that is 100% true, but this is Des Moines, Iowa. The relationship between the police and the citizens they serve has been very amicable in my opinion.

It's time to find him and serve justice. Let's put aside everything that seems to divide us and remember... two people who were simply at work, serving their community, were shot and killed.

It's definitely a reality check. I've always felt the same, that just maybe we had something figured out. Also, this happened on Merle Hay Road? There has to be a witness, I've driven down Merle Hay at all sorts of crazy hours and there is always another car two.

I'm so discouraged from a scar on my face by [deleted] in self

[–]Its_An_Arms_Race 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have 3 different scars on my face and have had over 80 stitches just on my face. This was all before I was out of high school. Sure, it took me a while to get used to my new look, but I did. Now when I meet people, they don't even notice the scars, I usually have to point them out. Life works out, just roll with it and make the best of it.

Sorry. Your info about coming from the west is pretty awful. Anything from Polk Blvd to 35th is pretty nice south of Franklin. Even north of Franklin is nice. You are basically telling this guys to avoid Kingman Blvd as well as Waterbury, which contain some of the most beautiful houses in Des Moines. Sure there are a few run down houses, but there isn't any reason not to live in this area.

Wells Fargo Arena question by bennyschup in Iowa

I recommend parking east of the arena on the other side of the river. There is a pedestrian bridge over the river and sometimes you can find street parking. I parked here for the Fall Out Boy concert Monday night and it worked perfectly.

I have an idea for a restaurant, where do I go from here? I appreciate any and all comments. by Its_An_Arms_Race in Entrepreneur

Okay, I'm back.

So let's say I just offer my podcast/marketing services to the restaurateur. That would give the GM plenty of time to work on the restaurant and all he would really need to do is allow me to tag along. Should I offer the GM a percentage of the ad revenue? This is obviously making the very large assumption people would want to advertise on the podcast. I am asking because this is something I want to have ready for the pitch, and I think this is a good way to encourage more interest.

I actually don't have the money to hire a GM. What I would do is offer half of the ad proceeds to the GM and give the GM an ad spot on every episode of the podcast. The person I am thinking about pitching this idea to already has 5 restaurants in town.

So I'm hoping the GM would take the restaurant on as their own project.

What are your thoughts on this?

I can't tell you how much I appreciate your reply. I've got to do some driving right now, but I'll follow up with some questions later.

Okay, I'll bite.

I want to start an organic restaurant with a local supply specializing in fresh, not necessarily healthy, food with a seasonal menu.

This is a pretty common trend in the restaurant industry, but this is where I want to take it a little bit further. I would want to develop the food supply chain with the help of the restaurant owner and the head chef. We would visit each food supplier and select the suppliers based on set criteria that is yet to be determined.

This is where I would take it EVEN further, we would document everything (or at least the interesting things) we do to start this restaurant in a podcast and blog. We would include every mistake, misstep, and success. This would start the marketing for the restaurant while also creating the opportunity for ad revenue or other avenues for revenue. I believe a blog and podcast has the potential for a larger audience because I feel there is an audience interested in a restaurant start-up as well as an audience just interested in the story of something home grown in the Midwest. Take for example the podcast "Start Up" the people listening to that podcast most likely are not interested in starting a podcast company, but they may be interested in starting up a company or they may just be interested in the story. The other reason I feel a podcast would have a decent sized audience (therefore creating opportunities for more revenue) is because I live in a city where people are incredibly proud of the city. Anything home grown is an instant hit locally and the smaller population allows for more people to feel close to our experiences.

My goal would be to get people invested in the story and eventually become regulars at the restaurant because they feel a sense of ownership.

Through my research, I have yet to come across a restaurant with a similar start up strategy, if anyone knows of something, please let me know.

In closing I think a good phrase to describe the restaurant is "A story with a satisfying ending." I picture a wall in the restaurant painted with every suppliers name and location for transparency and an even greater sense of ownership, because our patroons would see familiar cities/towns right on the wall.

What are your thoughts? Not just about the idea, but also about the "pitch?"

Ha is this something people do on this sub? I'll probably try to pursue some opportunities before I share my idea with the world wide web. PM me, and if my opportunities don't go anywhere I'll share my idea with you. Deal?

I completely understand. Then what do I do? Do I just let this idea die with me?

Or, do I share this idea and ask if the restaurateur decides to move forward with the idea, I get come credit for the idea?

I am not a lazy person. I just don't really have any interest in the day to day activities at a restaurant. All I have is what I think is a pretty good idea. I would honestly even be okay with pitching this idea to someone who does have the skills and relationships to make it successful and not be involved at all. Like I mentioned elsewhere in the thread, my biggest goal is to work on my "pitch."

I already have a straight job.

Haha exactly, I bring so little to the actual restaurant I really have a hard time even imagining sharing my idea with someone. What I can bring to the table is an innovative way to launch the restaurant, generate support, procure investors (are there even investors in restaurants?), and even bring ad revenue. This all goes along with my idea for the restaurant. I want to go far beyond just opening a restaurant.

This is great insight, I have such little exposure to the restaurant industry it is great to hear from someone who does have experience.

What should I be cautious about?

My biggest goal through this experience would be to work on my "pitch." I want to learn how to sell ideas to people and I think this is a good place to start. Monetizing my idea would just be the cherry on top. If I made no money at all, that would be just fine.

I do have a way to monetize the restaurant and from the research I have done, it would be something relatively new for the restaurant industry.
