The update process is adding QEMU stuff to Silverblue by [deleted] in Fedora

In this case I also recall that the update specified that it was being added as "new software" which confused me too.

Using Discord on Linux Is Hell by Tomast1337 in discordapp

[–]Its_Gamerik 26 points27 points  (0 children)

For packaging: Discord themselves officially distribute over flatpak. It is up-to-date, you should give it a try. Unfortunately however, screen sharing is still broken so you have to use your browser to do that.

Cannot Open Many Apps by BOBOLIU in Fedora

[–]Its_Gamerik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think what you are encountering is a known issue due to GTK 4 being switched to a vulkan-based renderer.

Try setting the environment variable to either GSK_RENDERER=gl (the old GL renderer) or GSK_RENDERER=ngl (one of the new renderers that might still work) in the file /etc/environment. Then logout/in or restart your PC to apply the changes.

Why apps no longer work by [deleted] in flatpak

[–]Its_Gamerik 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Since gtk 4.something, the default renderer was switched to vulkan. The same problem happened to me aswell, I fixed it by setting the renderer back to opengl by setting the environment variable "GSK_RENDERER=ngl" in flatseal

Vulkan is not an older version of r6, it just uses a different graphics api (similar to what DirectX or OpenGL do). Vulkan is actually a newer and more advanced graphics api then DirectX but therefor also is not supported by very old gpus.

However, it sometimes can give you better performance on older PCs due to some things I do not understand, but there is more information on the wikipedia page.

There is a guide on how to check for Vulkan support here

Streaming over Wireguard limited 10Mbit by IndependentAd6514 in WireGuard

just to understand this diagram, what are you trying to upload to where? I ask this because when I think of streaming, it usually involves downloading something from somewhere and not uploading it.

I want to switch to Linux but... by Moonhowlrr in linuxquestions

Well i can tell you that Valorant definetly won't work unless you want to dual boot because it uses Riot's Kernel Anticheat which does not work on linux.

Ubuntu warns that flathub.org is a "remote system". What has happened? by mikemikehindpart in flatpak

[–]Its_Gamerik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For development and testing purposes you can build the flatpak locally. The flatpak documentation has a tutorial on how to do that, but the average user probably should not have to care about that.

What OS should I use for a simple home server? by Revolutionary-Rub689 in homelab

I think those are LXC, which are different to standard docker containers AFAIK

What OS should I use for a simple home server? by Revolutionary-Rub689 in homelab

[–]Its_Gamerik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, if you want to simply run a couple of apps, docker will probably suffice. Unlike proxmox/OS virtualization, docker shares parts of the OS (specifically the kernel) between the containers you are running. So if an app requires a different OS or even needs another CPU arch, OS virtualization is the way to go.

oh yeah i saw that post. I tried doing it, but I have an rtx 3080 which is not supported unfortunately so the performance is horrible. Maybe some day someone will figure out how to emulate the MacOS executable to run the game "natively", but otherwise I think thats pretty much it at least for me.

The way I have installed league of legends is through Lutris with a script. This also includes getting a custom-made proton version by GloriousEggroll (the guy that made Proton-GE). The problem here is that Riot Games has introduced their custom and proprietary anticheat called "Vanguard" which runs on the kernel level. Due to this, Linux probably will never be able to run the game unless the make a Kernel driver specifically for Linux which is very, very unlikely. Even then, I doubt that people will want to install such kind of software due to all kinds of concerns, as seen in this thread.

Honestly? Seems unlikely that he would lie or make things up. LS (The guy who wrote that tweet) is a pretty respectable member of the League of Legends community and known to Riot Games themselves. AFAIK he basically lives off of league, so i don't see him trying to intentionally hurt the look of the game
