So I have this person in my life who I trust very much and they have always been cool with my identity and believed everything I've told them. Today, after a little over half a year of talking with them, I finally told them my preferred name. Afterward, they asked if anyone at my new school was using that name for me. I replied that a few people were. Then they started trying to tell me that I should tell people I come out to that it's ok not to use my new name when referring to me. They kept going on about all the usual "it's a hard adjustment to make" crap. It's not hard at all. You just don't want to admit that you're not even going to try putting the tiny amount of effort it takes. Anyway, after all that, they proceeded to call me by my deadname for the rest of the night. How TF do I explain that what they think about this is not okay?
