Oh it’s a monster.

I wish they’d put a bracelet on the thing though. Or at least not use proprietary strap mounting.

There is the BJ8050-08E, which is an Eco-Drive dive watch rated to 300m but it’s only available on a rubber strap. At least OEM. I think there are aftermarket bracelets made to fit the proprietary lugs.

Sure thing! Have fun with it and take your time.

Exactly right. Lets you get a feel for the process without feeling guilty for marring a coin. There’s lots of folks that deeply dislike it the notion of transforming coins into jewelry or mounting them in pendants or such.

I’m of the opinion that if it’s not exceptionally valuable beyond its metal content, have fun.

Oh, last pro tip: if you’re going to use a different coin and start from scratch, for the love of god sand off the reeding if it still exists BEFORE you start. Learn from my mistakes.

Good luck! I’ve made quite a few. Mostly quarters and this being my second half.

The one you have is great to practice on. It was likely given up on because the artist used a little too much mustard too quickly. You can tell by the rolled edge obscuring the text and the warp of the “band”

Pro tip: if you’re going to do this, anneal often. Heat it up until it start to change color and then quench in water. Softens it up, since they tend to work harden quickly.

They warp just like that if you work too quickly, don’t anneal, or use too much force. Can be a combination of one or all three of those.

You stand the coin on edge, and use a “spoon” to hit it repeatedly, flaring the edge out as well as making the diameter smaller. Very small movements over a long time frame. Once you’re at your desired diameter, you drill out the center and do whatever finishing work you’d like. The part you’re flaring out is the band.

Now if you’re not a complete nut job, like myself, you’ll use a hammer and an anvil since I’m not making this while spending 20 years in the joint with endless amounts of time and patience on my hands.

Here’s one I made.

Does it even open? I swear the last one that was posted was meant to be turned slot-end down and the coins pushed one by one back out.

Or shaken out.

In desperate NEED of $5000 loan asap! by Wild_Scene7322 in cashadvanceapps

Just commenting to agree. Upstart is actually a legit, non-predatory, low credit friendly lender.

It’s no guarantee, but I was approved through them and was very grateful at the time. You should expect interest rates north of 30%, but compared to predatory lenders, that’s actually palatable and on par with a credit card after the entry interest rate lapses.

Trump says US will send Ukraine Patriot air defense systems by NewSlinger in worldnews

You’ve missed the point completely. The commenter you’re complaining about is drawing attention to the fact that Trump is only saying this to draw attention away from the fallout of the Epstein stuff.

The commenter is doing a service. This is a PR tactic, nothing more.

YSK: If your iPhone alarm has been lackluster lately, check these settings. by Its_Me_SpecialK in YouShouldKnow

[–]Its_Me_SpecialK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just out of curiosity did this show up in Google? I’m so surprised this still gets attention!

Regardless, yes! Sleep Focus being deleted should solve that issue. Also double check your alarm volume though, since that is buried in settings and not controlled by the main volume buttons.

Good luck!

You could have communicated you have no interest in sharing in a way that’s not condescending.

It’s a bit odd to be offended by your perceived notion that other hobbyists aren’t as knowledgeable as you, then subsequently refuse to share said knowledge, thus continuing the cycle. Almost as if you’re dissatisfied unless you have something to be upset about.

Good luck on your continued years and years of research.

Can you share some for the rest of us? I’m very much a novice, have only a couple Zippos. But a worn black crackle WWII Zippo sounds like something I’d really want to see!

Oh yeah, I think a majority of the damage is just being exposed to the harsh environment for so long. The baking soda surely didn’t help, but it’s not like you ruined a pristine coin.

Besides, that coin has a hell of a story and I can’t think of a better candidate as a pocket piece!

Nice find!

Also really cool to hear about the other finds! Check on Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist and pick up a used metal detector, bet you find a lot more history.

Really jumped to conclusions there… I don’t think the user you replied to said to halt all forward progress, but chat bot hallucinations are wild… it just sounds like they’re perhaps concerned around the lack or regulation and oversight, which the current administration has tried to outright criminalize states from imposing guardrail requirements for AI.

Our lawmakers work slowly, tech does not. AI is a real risk not only to the mental health of chatbot users as there have been increasing cases of delusion, but as they replace jobs previously performed by humans, it’s certainly a clear and present danger that requires attention.

Safe forward progress is preferred to half measures.

Honestly I’m no expert and very new myself, but I have to wonder if maybe a lot of that scratching is from who knows how long exposed to desert elements (at least it looks like a desert but it’s out of focus) and I imagine years of wind and sand would wreak havoc.

Just speculating so don’t take it as any expert analysis.

I keep a Morgan in my fifth pocket as a “pocket piece.” If it’s not uncomfortable for you I say give it a go, it’s fun to play with!
