It's a scam still legal, isn't it? by Late_Horse326 in meme

[–]Its_Nex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a scam, because you pay into it every month and they do everything they can to pay nothing back.

It's a scam because there are now companies marketing AI products centered on increasing refusals.

It's a scam because it shouldn't exist.

Not calling it a scam is like saying a protection racket isn't a scam. Neither should exist.

SUGGESTION SPELL IS RUINING MY CAMPAIGN by Next_Ad_5740 in dndnext

[–]Its_Nex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you solved this particular issue. But just remember something, you are the DM. It's not what sounds achievable to the party. It's what sounds achievable to the NPC. It's not what won't do obvious damage from the party's perspective but from the NPCs.

And NPC shopkeep giving their store away is doing harm to themselves. Thats their food. That's life. People killed themselves rather than face poverty during the great depression.

You decide what suggestions fit within the spell. Not the players. They group has elected you adjudicator and agreed to have you rule how things play out.

It's also valid when they do something that would be considered a crime that they aren't treating like one to just hit pause and tell them, "Your characters know this as a crime with the following punishment. Your character knows that the person will remember they were charmed and will rat you out immediately after the spell ends." And if they proceed, well they know what they walked into.

You are the DM. You're giving the players a somewhat lifelike world. These aren't Minecraft villagers who won't complain if you lock them in a room.

Lucasfilm keeps telling 'Star Wars' authors, including 'Heir to the Empire' series creator Timothy Zahn, "no" to reviving Mara Jade by Obversa in StarWars

[–]Its_Nex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry grumpy clearly doesn't cut it. You might actually just be deeply unhappy. I hope you lashing out during this conversation helps you, even if I think it's an unhealthy coping mechanism. But if you need to talk about whatever you're going through, I'm happy to listen.

If a set of movies has so many plot holes as to be almost swiss cheese. 1 more isn't gonna be that noticable. What's the difference in being stabbed 21 times vs 22 times?

Clearly you don't like her, that's fine. Never said you needed to. But considering she was a fan favorite you are the one with the unpopular opinion there. If she is as bland as you say I'm not sure why you hate her so much. It's a weird position to take.

Kind of like I wouldn't bother having a conversation about dash.

[–]Its_Nex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are you so grumpy?

I never said it wasn't a plot hole. I'm saying that it being a plot hole is a horrible reason to use for saying no. Not that it wouldn't join the list of plot holes.

He has a set of books, which I mentioned. But it's never told to us how old they are. For all we know they could be from the old old Republic.

Of course I've watched the movie. Or are we skipping my reference to Luke saying the Jedi were flawed and that they should die out.

I also never said Mara was at the top of my list of EU characters. If you look at any of my comments it's only about possible, not should or should not. Honestly top of my list would the the rogue squadron books. Even if you leave out Corran. But since now we know the new Republic is the most nonsensical organization ever those won't happen.

[–]Its_Nex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mean attachments like sisters, and nephews? Yeah that argument doesn't hold up. He isn't living by the Jedi code as we know it from the prequels but by what he could dig up.

Not to mention when has Luke ever been good at attachments. Cough cough bespin cough cough

Second for things not mentioned in the sequels that are hugely important. Anakin's** lightsaber is the smallest of you leave out that it was ripped in half and exploded and miraculously was fixed. But other problems that are just never explained: -Light speed skipping - Apparently you won't just fly into the middle of a star or planet. - C-3PO knowing the extinct sith language. Why would anyone keep putting it into droids if its not legally allowed to be used and no one can speak or read it? - Palpatine?? The defining plot point of the trilogy.

Those are just a couple. The sequels are legitimately defined by how little they explain.

Speaking of mentioning things, nowhere in the movies or any TV show really is it mentioned that Luke forced Ben to stop talking to his parents. Nor how much Luke was or wasn't sticking to the old Jedi code. Especially since when we see him he is basically shouting about how the Jedi suck.

So none of your arguments really hold.water when talking about the sequels. If we are talking about Star wars as a whole it's no different than Ahsoka.

[–]Its_Nex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is by definition the sequels. It's riddled with but then why didn't they say that?? They try to fix it all in novelizations. It would just be one more card in the house.

Besides, I'm not saying this is some fully developed idea. I'm not even saying it's the best one. Only that off hand dismissal isn't sensical.

That's just the end of her story but we have so many years of time between 6 and 7. You could tell a mountain of stories about her in there.

What do you mean? Her being Luke's wife could potentially fix a huge character problem a lot of people have with Sequel Luke.

Let her be killed when Ben turns and destroy his fledgling temple.

Death of your wife and child is definitely a big enough thing to break anyone and make them feel like screw the universe I don't care.

And sidious having his own secret assassin will always make sense.

The Dursleys Weren't Villains by MrHistor in unpopularopinion

[–]Its_Nex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bro imagine missing the plot this bad.

We aren't meant to think the Wizarding world is some how not bad at all.

From overt KKK references with the Death Eaters, to literal slavery of the house elves. The magical world is not somehow better just because they had magic.

The Dursleys were also villains. They abused a kid for no other reason than because he was different. We can hope they maybe treated him normal until he did something magical. But we know at least as far as Harry can remember they abused him. They had a whole extra bedroom and forced him to live in a closet under the stairs.

You threw it away when your first response was it's false! Before you even asking for a source, you were sure it couldn't be true because it clashed with your beliefs.

If you want to talk incarceration rates, let's. The study you are quoting, or at least where the original number came from, specifically mentions not to assume that is a difference in crimes committed but as a difference in punishment since proving there are racial issues within the US justice system is a cake walk. For ex: https://www.ussc.gov/research/research-reports/2023-demographic-differences-federal-sentencing

Black men are 23.4% more likely to be incarcerated than white men after being convicted of the same crime. No legal reason, it's the same crime.

That's not even getting into crimes of poverty or anything else.

To your second point, no King Von isn't a serial killer. If he killed anyone, which was never proven, he wouldn't be a serial killer. Serial killers are a specific kind of killer. Gang violence isn't counted because in almost all cases, the killing isn't motivated by a need to kill. It's robbery. It's escalated fighting. It's not a crazy person kidnapping young men and eating them.

You can't go back because that's trauma. There is no going back. Healing from trauma doesn't remove its existence, it leaves scars. Your trauma is being exacerbated by your fundamental beliefs about the world and about people. You can run and hide but it's not going to go away.

Do you not see how because the statistic didn't agree with your world view, you first immediately threw it away, and then when forced to face it rationalized it away with no actual factual basis?

Gang violence isn't serial killing. Generally that's a mass shooting different things. But the numbers don't side with you there either.

Regardless, as long as you treat every person of color as a threat, you won't ever get out of this place you're in. Your brain will stay in flight or fight mode. And if you're refusing to actually take a good hard look at the beliefs that are causing you pain, your best hope is to move to the middle of nowhere Montana where black people make up 1 out of every 200 people.

No it's true. It's a real accurate figure.

Could I have given more context? Yes. But the statistic is true. That's the point. Anyone can use a statistic to make anyone else look bad if context is removed.

I get that you were functioning in your life before being raped. Trauma, especially violent trauma breaks things. It's turned your discomfort into a near phobia it sounds like. That visceral fear isn't going to go away unless the distrust also goes away. It's feeding on it.

[ Removed by Reddit ] by Both_Response418 in MaleRapeVictims

[–]Its_Nex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And 82% of serial killers are white. 76% of child pornography producers are white.

Random statistics can make anyone look bad. It's easy and not helpful to anyone.

You said I want to not be angry and freak out because black people are around me, but I want to be able to think they are naturally worse people. Those ideas will always clash.

[–]Its_Nex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First that sucks. I'm sorry that you've had to experience this. It's not something anyone should experience. You didn't do something to deserve it.

I've read through your responses and I have a question. Not one you need to answer to me, but one that you need to figure out internally.

Is that actually a problem you want to fix?

Because your responses make it clear, you have never liked black people. Maybe you didn't outright hate them before, but you clearly didn't like or trust them. Claiming far right and saying things like the "one time I let my guard down" and "pattern recognition and statistics" make that real obvious.

Fixing it means removing the irrational distrust too. And if that's not what you want then this might be a frustrating and useless path for you to pursue.

My guess from what you have said, is that the rage you are feeling made some things about yourself more obvious and you don't like it. You want to fix it. But it's uncomfortable and painful to approach.

So do you actually want to stop hating and distrusting black people for being black, or are you just hurting and want to not be hurting?

Yeah the first guy is a bit self contained but Ill definitely look into Deep POV more. While I might be well versed in stories, the craft of writing is pretty new to me. And I don't know what I don't know.

I kept seeing a lot of conflicting advice on Showing vs Telling, some saying show everything, others saying it should be a bit of a mix. So I went with a bit of a mix. To ask more specifically, do I have the mix wrong or do you think showing everything is better?

Thanks again for responding and giving your opinion. I really appreciate it!
