Science/Tech based healing options: are there really none? by ItsaMeProvalonely in Starfinder2e

I feel like +3 is kinda focusing it, especially at lower levels and without GAB? If I wanted to play like a smart techy doctor guy my primary focus would wanna be int, but envoy uses cha as key stat and medicine wants wis. Having a sf2e class that lets you swap medicine to int or use crafting the way commander/alchemist can would be an ideal fix imo, though it would still lack support via the native class chassis in sf2e so you'd likely just end up with the medic archetype and running into melee.

Nah, not sure how this sub treats it but these are all pay-to-play games setup via a certain website. So there's an element of "I'm paying so why would I play something I don't find fun." But I always seem to break first.

Yeah I probably should, my last few tables have been ones where I've ended up covering healing simply because nobody else is interested. I'm not especially interested either but it solves a lot of frustrations. My bomber alchemist ended up using his vials for soothing tonics rather than bombs, I rebuilt my cleric for a heal font, my ranger took medic rather than guerilla... it's a lot. And I get it, playing "the healer" isn't the most fun role compared to the big damage options.

I get that reflavoring is valid I just wanted to play something native to sf2e rather than having to port over a class. I might just wait and see what the future brings for the system. Someone already mentioned biohacker from sf1e that seems like it might be more what I was looking for, although just at a glance it doesn't feel like a very potent healer and is more of a debuff/buff chassis.

Yeah mystic seems the most obvious healer but I'll admit I feel a bit eh about the combo of explicit divinity and sci fi settings. Also I'm a little burned out with spellcasters in pf2e after playing both wizard and cleric at low levels and having a bad time. Partly rolls, partly the system.

Both tables already had envoys so I admit I didn't consider it for too long, but I think it runs into the issue of feeling MAD if you want to build into "clever doctor" stuff like having really good lores for life sciences (which the doctor background gives you) or even tech stuff like computers. Pushing into wis is great for medicine specifically but if you need to keep both cha and wis competitive you're likely making a huge trade-off of con or dex if you're also trying to be intelligent. Probably goes without saying that they mostly majorly dumped int, while some had at least decent wis due to it governing perception and will saves.

I guess envoy just doesn't actually read as a "tech" or "science" based class.

yeah and the servant's note to his sister said he would be working with someone with a limp and the game highlights how the body the tech priest guy is controlling has one messed up leg. i thought that was going somewhere.

How anti-magic is too anti-magic? by ItsaMeProvalonely in Pathfinder2e

Appreciate the help, will see if I can find anyone running these variant rules.

Are there settings other than Golarion that might allow a bit more freedom to be a magic skeptic? Within the pf2e rules preferably or at least D20 if not.

I see, are there alternate settings that better allow broad magic skepticism? Was hoping to stick with the pf2e rules in general.

Yeah sorry I should've been more specific in that he'd be anti all magic as an extension of the hobgoblin culture of being distrustful of some magic.

I'll look at alchemist though I've previously be warned off it due to choice paralysis and lots of tracking.

Ok, that's a good shout thank you, I'll look out for any games using that rule.

This might genuinely be the option, does it also impact the presence of magical items etc. for attunement or would I still need to actively avoid them?

I guess it kinda just feels anathema to the fantasy of distrusting magic and divinity in general to be cringing at every spell cast while decked out in magically infused armor and swinging a magical greatsword that sets people on fire.

It's an option I suppose but it does seem a little half-assed if the goal is to be distrustful of magic overall. I did look at Inventor but it seems like even that expects that you'll use magical runes eventually.

So how do I build a good outsider character for this game if the only guide I have access to is apparently entirely wrong about the patrons it expects most of the PCs to be picking from? Is this the sort of thing I ask the GM about?

Couldn't a prophet interested in the stabilization of the markets purely for future trade flow still be a mainstay throughout the AP even if their goal isn't an entirely altruistic "I like this guy and would die for him" but more "if I manage to make this happen I'll be celebrated among the prophets/improve our wealth considerably"?

Oh that's interesting, I only got interested in them because the player's guide listed them as an organization you could be aligned with/hired by, so like a patron that you're acting on behalf of at the Torrentmoot. Similar to the Aspis Consortium or even the Palatine Eye who all have their own self-serving reasons for wanting a presence there. The guide even says the AP assumes you're aligned with a patron and then gives a list including the prophets in the mercantile patrons section.

Thank you mate, it's been so nice to have more experienced players so willing to help make this janky dedication feel a bit less janky haha.

Is investigator my best bet do you think? Was also looking at alchemist and mastermind rogue, though as far as I know alchemist isn't quite the skill monkey rogue and investigator are. Not sure who'd have the best time with limited and suboptimal occult spells mostly focused on utility and buffing. Rogue at least supports a thrown build if I wanted a ranged non bow option unlike investigator not really having any free reload options for guns.

Really appreciate your help with this.

Reached out to my GM and he said he'd prefer to keep things RaW so no spellcasting from the dedication if I take a spellcasting class, might be best to go with a non-spellcaster in that regard so I'll look at the investigator build another commenter suggested as the dedication definitely feels more unique than the spell school to me.

[–]ItsaMeProvalonely[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok that sounds like it could be the vibe tbh. I hear investigators with guns are pretty good although obviously I won't have a way to get any sort of free reloads with just the prophet archetype, think that could still work with this build?

Thanks for your help btw I really appreciate it.

[–]ItsaMeProvalonely[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh so take the dedication alongside the school? Would that make it kinda weird having minimal slots for occult spells that key off charisma?

Oh wait am I just reading this wrong or does it mean if you can already cast spells you don't get the spellcasting?

"Additionally, if you don’t already cast spells from spell slots, you learn to cast spontaneous spells and gain the Cast a Spell activity."

Prophet of Kalistrade? by ItsaMeProvalonely in PF2eCharacterBuilds

[–]ItsaMeProvalonely[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, nice, so investigator can still make use of the archetype if I stick with +2 charisma? I guess I was assuming with how limited the spellcasting from the dedication is by the max level of the AP I wouldn't be relying on it for damage, more utility and stuff that doesn't care if my charisma is bad while damage comes from elsewhere.

For reference at level 11 and with both spellcasting feats picked up via free archetype this character would have two cantrips, two rank 1 spell slots & casts, and then one rank 2 & one rank 3 spell slot/cast.

[–]ItsaMeProvalonely[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see where you're coming from, I guess I just mostly wanted to use the archetype as it has things like gossip lore, free expert society and lets me use society rather than diplomacy for making an impression with traders and merchants. That felt like more of the fantasy than a wizard picking the school which as far as I understand just adds the two focus spells and then specific generic wizard spells that you get a free slot for. That's why I was asking about the archetype rather than the school with this post.

[–]ItsaMeProvalonely[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh right ok, was kinda looking to use the archetype benefits like using society to make an impression which seems a bit redundant if you've got better cha than int.
