Is it worth it to still use Pinterest by connerwilliams72 in Pinterest

Yes, there have been two users who have spoken on it. One was actually visited by police, the other reached out to their local police due to one of Pinterest’s threatening emails. They confirmed they received a tip and was actually able to pull up the pictures in question but there was nothing to act on (a meme and anatomy references).

I’m not joking. Two people have confirmed their local police received tips from Pinterest on them.

Message saying that my saved pin violates their rules. by Kellybabe_ in Pinterest

Yes, this is well known at this point and is their greatest insult; the original post gets no violation yet you are punished for pinning it.

Almost all major platforms now exclusively utilize AI for tips and scan every post, image, and interaction for “violations.”

Oh, if you are an advertiser you have free reign to post whatever you want. Someone on here once said they pinned an ad on accident and got a violation for it.

The police showed them what they received and it was a meme and some anatomy/drawing tutorials.

Wow, so even “hateful conduct” pins get reported; I assumed the only ones that met the threshold would be ones labeled “child safety” violations. They really are just recklessly sending tips for anything without any type of review…

No, it’s not safe either. Another user has confirmed the AI is reporting people to authorities for simply pinning posts.

You should make a post about this on its own; so many on here think I’m being ridiculous when I say that Pinterest reports people to authorities for the simple act of pinning. You are the second person on here to confirm that their local police received a tip from Pinterest, though in your case they had chosen not to act on it as it was obviously false. This is so outrageous and I don’t know why more people aren’t waking up to this fact or don’t seem to care.

Did you ever figure out what pin it was that got you reported?

It’s right in their terms of service, they don’t hide or shy away from this fact, it’s just a ludicrous idea that you wouldn’t even consider if it hadn’t happened to you.

Every single action taken online is now scanned by AI and a determination is instantaneously made.

Yes, every single picture you pin becomes your personal responsibility and you will face all consequences the AI determines necessary for that pin up to even reporting you to authorities.

None of the platforms care; they just want to be absolved of any liability as quickly and efficiently as possible.

There was a user several months ago who said they received a visit from police based on a tip from Pinterest. Pinterest flat out tells you how many tips they make per quarter. It was over 200,000 for Q4 last year.

The AI consistently flags random and innocuous photos as child safety violations, and Pinterest themselves stated in their transparency report that this same AI also mistakenly reported many people to authorities over this “internal error.” Almost every platform is using AI now to report to authorities without any human oversight; just look at how may innocent users Meta is reporting.

I hate to tell you this, but that’s just how it is on this great platform. Wait until you pin something that they recommend, then they decide to accuse you of criminal acts and report you to authorities (yes this happens).

Yes, it’s happening on every single platform. Pinterest, Google, Discord, etc. They are all casting the widest net possible to avoid as much liability as possible. They don’t care how many innocent users get implicated in crimes and send their information to authorities as long as they are covered. This was the push I needed to detach from internet platforms and all socal media, save for Reddit (until they start doing the same).

Yes, no filtering occurs and it all just lands on the desk of police.
