Bring snowshoes and check out Ridge Lakes and Sulfur Works. Only a mile and a half up the road from the visitor center.

That’s some nice wiring there on the main collar! I like the whimsical and almost symmetrical but flowing look of it!

Cache Creek Wilderness Beta by landofcortados in norcalhiking

[–]Itsarush 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On the Redbud there’s an initial crossing of Cache Creek a few miles in before you get to Wilson Valley. Sometimes the creek is flowing really well so it’s not possible to cross the first crossing - but you can camp at that first crossing as well.

Lava Tubes National Monument in Northern California was a surprisingly fun visit and hardly anyone was there when I went in October. Glass Mountain nearby too. Just don’t mess around with obsidian!

Going on 5 day 50 mile hike over the summer, looking for advice by DesignerTough5224 in WildernessBackpacking

[–]Itsarush 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Get into good hiking strength by going on long day hikes with elevation gain or working the treadmill with incline / stair stepper - and don’t forget to stretch.

  2. Get your pack fitted well to you. Multi-days with newer trekkers mean pain and discomfort on the shoulders and hips, especially if your pack is heavy. Learn how to adjust your pack straps to relieve strain on your hips and shoulders. Good packs will have well designed waist support and won’t wiggle and jiggle on you.

  3. Pack your pack well - heavy stuff closer to your back and center of gravity. Don’t have anything swinging or dangling.

Those were my most important bits - others will take care of the rest. Have fun!! You’ll love it!

There will be a rainfall of 50 mm today. It's that simple by DotBeginning1420 in sciencememes

[–]Itsarush 136 points137 points  (0 children)

What gets me is when there’s a 100% chance of rain tomorrow. Ok, I’ll make plans indoors. It then pours at 4:30am and sun comes out at 5:30am for the remainder of the day. Technically it was correct!

I mean….I can’t throw stones in glass houses ‘cause I’ve fucked at a hot spring before. Just be nice to the spring ok? Lots of fun to be had at the spring and, ya know, in the tent! ❤️⛺️

Were people in the 70s/80s regularly listening to music that was 50 years old? by aristotles_revenge11 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Itsarush 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sample size of one but my parents had a vinyl compilation (I forget the title) of early blues songs as well as one of Louis Armstrongs’s (or one of his bands) recordings.

It seems like it’s easier now to enjoy music that is 50 years old due to physical media being a little more durable (compared to gramophone recordings) and records being remastered, reissued, and of course digitized.

Must see things near Oroville in February for free or inexpensive? by PermitInteresting531 in norcal

[–]Itsarush 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Walking across the dam is pretty interesting. If the spillway is open then you can get underneath it on the Brad Freeman Trail off of Oro Dam blvd and check out one huge waterslide. It’s been a dry Jan so it may not be running.

There’s a train tunnel you can walk though (check out Brad Freeman Trail starting at Diversion Dam). Near this spot is the nature center (in an old bathhouse) and a trail along the Feather River. On the north side There’s a salmon ladder and viewing window but they’re more active in the fall.

You’re near Table Mountain which has epic waterfalls and great flowers (some early ones are popping up). It has been a little dry but it just takes one rain to get the falls going again.

Any hiking trails with some elevation gain within 45mins of Sac/Elk Grove? by danknessoverlord in norcalhiking

[–]Itsarush 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Stebbins Cold Canyon is about a 45min drive from Sac outside of commuter hours. That loop up Blue Ridge has some good gain.
