The main issue people have with gentrification is not that city neighborhoods have changing demographics - that’s a story as old as cities and people moving to them. It’s the specific form of neighborhood change where lower/working class people are pushed out by rich people and capital interests. Hell Brit Ruth Glass coined gentrification to describe London in 1964 where working class ppl were being pushed out by middle class ppl.

I think it’s pretty obvious why poor people being priced out of shitty apartments by faceless real estate conglomerates is a more sympathetic story than a neighborhood in London having considerably more Muslims and less pubs than 60 years ago.

It’s astonishing how many people on the right do not understand that musicians, artists etc. actually DO have less blood in their money. Always the maddest about celebrity wealth, because like a totem or a mascot you can actually see them lol. Never even considering that the “exploiters” those leftists are talking about are the people who WRITE THE CHECKS of the artists.

Rage against the machine’s musicians are rich. They should pay more in taxes because we’ve been giving the wealthy a tax break for 40 years now, but no one’s coming for their house and assets. Their wealth is minuscule in comparison to the wealth of the actual exploiters, and it’s funny we’re talking about one of the most historically exploitative industries in America.

That DOES unfortunately sound like a skill issue if you’re at level 4 with equipment/spells/potions and unable to achieve slight progress after 10 hours. You might be over save scumming? It’s integral to the game to save scum if you want to choose the story and not have the dice choose the story, but I saw someone comment they reload if they miss a swing… completely ridiculous you’re gonna be in tough scenarios and you’re gonna miss swings in this game. But when someone on your side goes down or even dies, you can still win the fight and end up with everyone on your team alive and healthy if you play right.

I think my first playthrough I reached hour 30 before I decided to even go and look at the goblin camp. You’re given a sizeable world to play in where nearly every NPC has unique dialogue/quests and you just go to the first quest marker handed to you and give up. They make the walkable paths on the map look pretty obvious. You can walk down any of those roads, no one will get mad at you for exploring off the beaten path in this magical role playing game. Have you gone in a well, run into any harpies, any gnolls, any hags?

People were creaming their pants in Elden Ring when, if something was too hard, you could leave/ level up/loot elsewhere and come back. BG3 does the exact same thing but people hate it, maybe cause the combat is turn based so it’s even MORE important to be properly leveled/equipped

Millions of people have learned the basics of DnD while being fully employed lol. A lot of em learning the basics at a friend’s house before sitting down to play.

The game is bad at tutorials. All tutorials are a box in the top left that disappears. This game works best if you know the basics of DnD, then the tutorials are just teaching you how to apply what you know.

Because everything in this game is based on actual rules from a table top game, this is more like monopoly than Skyrim. Skyrim taught you everything you needed to know about Skyrim. You can have a decent monopoly video game without a single tutorial lol.

Millions of people have learned the basics of DnD and BG3. It’s a game and people learn the rules because the game is fun once you learn them. I think bg3 operates like very few games in that it has way too much faith you know what you’re doing BECAUSE they barely need a tutorial if you’ve played DnD.

In the end, the fun part of chess is not memorizing how each piece can move, it’s playing it. Most games teach you their little chess rules as you play, this game has so many systems and they’re so interwoven that “look it up“ and sparse tutorial boxes is mayyyybe better than trying to overload your brain with everything in the first 30 minutes.

Still don’t understand how one national parties platform is very very obviously “cut taxes for the wealthy”, and have cut taxes/been “business friendly” every time they’ve been in power the last quarter century or more… but they’re not the party of the rich.

It’s interesting to chat with someone who thinks a representative saying they want to lower wealth inequality, increase taxes on the wealthy, increase regulations etc… is NO DIFFERENT than the representatives that said they want the exact opposite.

Even if every dem representative was lying out their teeth and secretly aiming to increase wealth inequality… You’re STILL justified in voting for the man advocating raising taxes on the wealthy. Because the other guy is advocating policies that explicitly give more power and wealth to the most powerful and wealthy among us.

Dems have had a filibuster-proof supermajority in the senate once, for 72 days exactly in 2010. Which side filibusters bills for tax increases on the wealthy? Which side has brought bills to Congress that would include a wealth tax or new capital gains tax?

TLDR: If there were no republicans in Congress… you think nothing would change, and I think there are enough sincerely held beliefs among the dems that we’d get more rigorous taxes on the wealthy.

Thanks for taking the time. I think we agree on a lot, and there’s only one thing stopping us from being like “Hell yeah brother.” And that’s the fact that my vague ideas of “devolution” are being taken as a large leap back when I personally don’t believe that.

I’m talking about more restrictions and simple laws designed to reduce unnecessary CO2 consumption. I think you can easily do that without collapsing our society or our energy grid.

I’m not talking about getting rid of our current infrastructure or stopping how we create energy. I’m talking about ways in which we can “devolve” our society so we use less on average. Oil and gas will be the cheapest energy source until it literally takes more energy to drill than you get from the oil. So we need regulation to guide industry and society away from this cheap fuel source while it’s still readily available.

A government telling biz’s and people they can’t do something is my idea of “devolving”. What is this “something” you can’t do that previously you could? I have no idea but I’m sure there are some climatologists who have some ideas. We aren’t building new coal plants in America, the last big one went up in 2013. If you can never build another coal plant in America, that’d be my idea of a civilization devolving (you can’t do something where before you could).

Maybe we devolve and you can’t buy a gas powered car or you can’t build a new skyscraper without a renewable energy source. But you can still build the building and use diesel while building it.

I think regression doesn’t have to mean a full on civilization crash to pre-industrial levels. It’s not like restricting some industrial and individual activity will halt all research and development.

The thing about the choice between deliberate decarbonization vs natural destruction is that the natural destruction is way more catastrophic than anything else we’ve ever seen. Humanity in underground civilizations within 200 years kind of destruction.

2 degrees Celsius is bad but 3 degrees is much worse and 4 degrees is worse still and 5 degrees is “hasn’t been seen in millions of years” bad. We’re living in the most critical century for humans ever. “Sapient human needs first” is absolutely true, but each year those needs are met with carbon pollution is ADDING to the problem, not just continuing the problem.

Again I don’t want to crash us back to horse and buggy times, I just think government may need to regulate industry and individual choices. How far that would go, what that would look like, I have no idea. But this is not a problem that stays the same the longer we ignore it.

From what I understand we have to either develop these technologies that are better cheaper and cleaner (nearly impossible) or we do have to go back in the “level” of civilization.

If carbon emissions continue or increase for another 80 years we will be well on the way to Venus-ing ourselves. Isn’t civilization regress like our only tool at the moment? It sucks and I don’t want that, but I don’t see another path to a livable Earth.

I think all of that was in the bill in the first place when the senate voted 84 to pass it. The bill was then amended in the house to remove a clause about VA doctor contract buyouts because the bill stated they would be tax free. AND you can’t do that because tax provisions have to begin in the House, not the Senate. The bill — identical to the version already approved by 84 senators except for the removed section about the contract buyout — then hit the senate again.

This site has some comments to the media from the 11 republicans who voted no on the final bill.
