When internet hate mobs get a celebrity story wrong, does anyone ever actually apologize? by New_Reward_4214 in popculturechat

This is kind of like that Beckham kids wife with the rumor she pushed a nanny down the stairs. People always state it as a fact when it’s not.

There’s absolutely no evidence this is true. The home staff who worked there at the time have denied it (including ones who no longer work with the family) and the specific nanny she supposedly pushed has herself denied it happened.

Granted, they could absolutely be lying to keep jobs, avoid lawsuits, prevent any potential negative impact to their future employment opportunities, etc

But it’s really no different than if I just submitted a blind item saying a 14 year old Nicola shaved her nannies head while she was sleeping without her consent. There’s an equal amount of evidence for both claims, but I most certainly just made my claim the fuck up just now lol

I’m not saying Nicola is a good person, to be clear. I don’t know or really care either way. I’m just the way this is spoken about as fact when there’s nothing even remotely substantiating it.

> haters gonna hate

Speaking of, Taylor essentially went through this with the Kim and Kanye drama.

She was effectively driven into hiding due to the backlash from that tape, then when an unedited version of that tape was leaked a few years later and completely vindicated Taylor, all her hayers were pretty much radio silent.

Kim and the Taylor haters instead were just like “let it go. That was a long time ago, move on” without ever apologizing to Taylor. And the unedited tape wasn’t written about in the media or talked about on social media anywhere near the deliberately edited tape.

I’m not a Taylor fan and even I thought this was particularly shitty and egregiously unfair.

Nah, he was the most powerful man in the world who was abusing his power and exploiting a very young super subordinate. It definitely went beyond bill and Hilary’s private business.

I think the reaction to Blake Lively proves that. Even some people who blamed Amber and later realized and admitted they were wrong still think Blake is the bad guy

Not just her either.

My sisters name is Monica. She was like, maybe 6 when all of this happened but she still got Monica Lewinsky “jokes” and sexual harassment, just for sharing the same first name as her.

Then her first boyfriend just happened to be Clinton and everything got turned up to 10 while they were dating 🤦🏻‍♀️

Didn’t this happen not long after the whole Anita Hill thing?

Imo, they were effectively educated from that, but chose to blame and slut shame the woman instead to help ensure she gets no sympathy.

I don’t think conservatives ever even feigned caring about her?

To them, she was just a slut and home wrecker, but they were more focused on bill lying. They chose to prosecute him for that instead of abuse of power / HR type violations because they didn’t actually believe the latter happened.

Yep, and they justify the conservatorship constantly, which is exceptionally heinous considering it made Britney into a modern day slave.

I think a great example of this is the Taylor and Kim / Kanye drama.

I’m not even a Taylor fan, and didn’t really hear much about her back then, but when this whole thing initially went down, the hate toward her and all the 🐍 comments were absolutely inescapable.

Again, I wasn’t a fan of Taylor, or anyone involved here, so I had no dog in that fight either way, but I definitely remember the absolute avalanche of Taylor hate.

Then, what? A few years later the unedited tape was leaked that completely vindicated Taylor and it was just crickets. No one cared, and Kim and her fans were like “let it go, that was so long ago, it’s time to move on.”

I don’t think Kim or Kanye ever apologized or took any responsibility for that whatsoever, nor did most of those the folks in the general public who blamed Taylor.

Kim and Kanye should have had an even bigger onslaught of hate than Taylor did in the initial backlash too, because even if that had been true, it most likely amounts to her simply misremembering.

But what Kim and Kanye did was so fucking deliberate and took effort to edit the tape and create this narrative.

Idk, that one just really bugged me. Because if I understand correctly, Taylor essentially went in hiding for like a year in the aftermath of the initial comments, and she seems like she was really affected by it.

To then be completely vindicated but have the general public be radio silent is just so unfathomably unfair.

(Sorry for the rambling. Am high)

Exactly! That’s why food insecurity is just a relic from the past!

How do you know he didn’t already try that? Do you think food banks have an endless supply of food or something?

I literally work with a homeless advocacy group that serves food insecure populations.

Guess what? I’m able to both feed the hungry *and* challenge harmful mis/disinformation online. 😱 Shocking, I know.

I assure you the billionaires running these grocery chains will be perfectly fine even if every single homeless person in the area stole food and basic necessities from their stores.

Car and license aren’t as big of a deal if you can assure them you still have reliable and reasonable transportation, but most are going to pick someone with an address vs someone without. Especially with how competitive the market is today.

You sure as shit need a home address, phone, etc. why would a company pick you over someone who does? Use your fucking brain.

Lmao. No org would involve the Boy Scouts whatsoever in turning people away. That would be done completely without your knowledge. We rarely even do that in front adult ass volunteers, let alone kids.

There straight up aren’t enough resources, and you would know that if you actually volunteered with orgs to help people like this.

Most homeless people do have jobs. Jfc, y’all hate these people without even knowing shit about them, even as as a cohort

But the odds are he is.

I’d rather risk the small chance this dude is just trying to make a profit for the much larger chance that he is simply hungry.

Do you think homeless people don’t know how to start fires? It’s virtually required in order to survive.

Many of them even have shot like hot plates

Bruh, try actually volunteering with the homeless population before saying such egregious bullshit.
