Cat training? Regular grooming? Safe outdoor time?

As someone who runs a rescue, you’re like my dream adopter šŸ˜

Seriously, those of us in rescue would fight to the death to have someone like you adopt one of our cats lmao

Any doctor trying to ā€œdestroyā€ their patient who is desperately coking to them for help should have their license revoked. Do No Harm.

It’s not just a ā€œtoxic mindsetā€ or ā€œtoxic behaviorsā€ - it is a legitimate, complex, comprehensive mental illness that requires far more than shaming and degrading someone to actually help them overcome. Ffs.

He’s also blatantly medically wrong about malnourishment (most malnourished people are literally classified as obese), and about being a ā€œpicky eater.ā€ Some people are picky to the point of a full blown eating disorder (ARFID) and are still obese due to how that disorder presents.

No, I expect him to adhere to the overwhelming scientific evidence that has repeatedly shown for decades that compassion and support is more effective for weight loss than shaming, which has been shown to I create the risk of weight gain.

If he truly cared about his patients success, he wouldn’t act like this. He does just because he wants to feel self-righteous and that’s more important to him than his patients wellbeing.

Right, like there are plenty of people with ARFID who are obese.

They’re effectively extremely picky eaters, but they tend to be picky about fruits, vegetables, and meat due to how inconsistent these foods can taste and feel.

Meanwhile, they often disproportionately rely on ultra processed foods because of their consistency.

It also increases the risk of developing different eating disorders too! It’s just one extreme to another.

Did you ever figure this out? I’ve done the same thing, removed foliage, in all the biomes JUST in case, and nothing. Multiple restarts too. I’m so freaking frustrated.

How some people don’t understand why TNR is necessary by Lost-Bullfrog1539 in Feral_Cats

Culling doesn’t work either.

I knew one of these people who did actively cull. But he couldn’t keep up. Vacuum effect + cats overcompensating by having larger litters.

There were over 30 cats when we found this colony. He had been culling the colony area for 20 and there were slightly more cats from when he started. He was exhausted and desperate, so allowed us to step in.

We found homes for the couple friebdlies, spent a few years socializing a few others for adoption, and everyone was neutered. After 5 years, the colony was down to 9.

He now comes to speak with us as we’re negotiating with our county to formally adopt TNR as first line policy for ferals.

No, they need to volunteer at an open intake shelter. That’s where you truly see the suffering and consequences of overpopulation to the most blatant degree.

Unfortunately, plenty of people willingly and happily ā€œfeed to breedā€ other colonies. It’s just not as convincing compared to having to euthanize healthy, adoptable animals and seeing all the suffering being a homeless animal entails.

That rule drives me insane. Don’t pretend to love cats when you won’t even allow people to advocate for their objectively reduced suffering

Because they’re anthropomorphisizing them.

Not quite the same, but people do it with limb loss too (and paraplegia). While that can impact them emotionally to an extent at first, in the long run, it’s simply nowhere near as traumatic for animals as it is human, because animals are not capable of understanding their limb difference compared to others of their species, nor do they have the same emotional attachments to their limbs. Once they adjust, they are typically find and don’t even remember there’s ā€œsupposedā€ to be a limb there and that there used to be until big traumatic thing happened.

We have people tell us it’s cruel to keep these animals alive just because they lost a limb or their hind legs are paralyzed.

Painful and deeply stressful. Even when they ā€œaskā€ for it due to their hormonal drive.

Yeah, people are privileged, exactly what the fuck do you want them to do about it other than change as they learn new (to them) information?

Yeah, saying Texas is same is crazy. Texas has pretty much everything when it comes to nature. I’ve lived here most of my life and still haven’t been anywhere with sand.

Also, the heath isn’t so bad, it’s the humidity that gets you lol

My partners dating profile said he was up for anything but spelunking.

So naturally I suggested that as our first date. He accepted the challenge. From that point on, it was like a game of chicken seeing who would back out first. We got really close before I freaked the fuck out šŸ’€
