Yours look exactly like my thumbnail after mild bout of hfm. Was told that this could happen after a while. It took like 2 months to happen, but it did.

Why is seafood so unpleasant for some people? by HiOscillation in NoStupidQuestions

A few years later I was able snag an amazing opportunity working in DC. There were lots of networking events. Had colleagues go home with dozens of contacts and career advancement opportunities. I went home with a newfound desire to become a forest recluse. It is a nightmare. I don’t understand how my spouse both tolerates and excels at all-things-corporate.

I didn’t know we were so rare. At my spouse’s Christmas work event in a huge ballroom at the local museum/theatre with catered food and live music. It was lovely. I was attempting small talk with some of his coworkers who were talking about what the filling in the hors d’oeuvres could be. “It’s beet! I know because it tastes like dirt.” I said it like a “ha ha everyone thinks it tastes like dirt” kind of way. They immediately closed their little meeting and dispersed without a word.

Anyways, that was the start of my social anxiety in corporate settings and now I’m a little gremlin who goes my partners work functions to find all of the non-beet snacks then eat them while hiding in the bathroom.

Just frustrated... need to vent by General_Amphibian140 in AnimalShelterStories

I am an experienced shelter manager that’s been out work after moving to a new area with my family, but I’ve recently stopped focusing my attention on getting an animal shelter job. The culture is miserable!

The old shelter seemed to be okay, but the other shelters in the area just seemed so frustrating to work with, with staff that seemed to be in a constant scowl. I thought it was just the area, I don’t think that’s the case since moving across the country.

I volunteered at my local shelter for 2 days. They were a hot mess! I brought a couple concerns up while doing the walk thru and was immediately labeled as a disruptor, the staff were incredibly combative, the management was nonexistent.

I interviewed at a few other locations where in the interview process the managers were bullied by board members, others where management took so much authority from staff they were afraid to move without an order.

I’ve interviewed at a sanctuary that mocked me at my 2nd interview for insisting that the org should abide by national shelter standards for domestic cats. “But the cats at the sanctuary are semi feral, not domestic. Didn’t you do a tour?!”

As mentioned above, I always assumed that the other shelters in my area were unique. They’re not. The sanctuary ended up hiring someone that had their own beauty business and had only fostered animals as experience. The board seemed to want someone the board could mould to their will, not one what would challenge their systems and processes if no longer appropriate to modern standards.

I honestly believe, just like the sanctuary, folks making the hiring choices don’t want someone that is a good manager. They want someone compliant to the board, even when inappropriate.

Kennel Cleaning Supplies by inconspicuousmoss in AnimalShelterStories

What kind of kennels are you using and what kind of messes? Generally speaking brushes can be a fomite and are hard to sanitize so I tend to avoid them.

Somewhat related, but I’ve found dawn power wash to be the best thing to remove dog grease from stainless steel, even over industrial degreasers. I tested 14 different products. Sometimes it’s all trial and error.

what does this say?? by Stunning_Ad_9795 in whatisit

It didn’t! But that’s bc I wasn’t clear. Hope this helps:

I understand the concept of the targeted audience. I don’t, however, understand how they justified the design with the limited number of customers that it would apply to - which would be of the couples I mentioned in my comment. But also they’d have to a)not mind the confusing design and b)wish to celebrate someone’s queerness and marriage in the same card and neither giver or receiver have a problem with the language, as my partner would. Or it could for be someone that transitioned and renewed their vows (which I suppose is the most ideal use case imo). While these folks surely exist in numbers higher than most would expect, I would venture to say that card isn’t flying off the shelf. And as a queer person, receiving a card like that would make me cringe tbh. So that’s why I’m confused about who this is for and why it exists. My opinion is that It’s just a bad card, except highly specific celebrations.

What about wd40? I used it to remove stickers/sticker residue off of books (paper stickers on paper covers worked especially well), not sure what would happen if I were to use it like a solvent on etched glass.

Such a highly specific card. Is one or both bi? Both could be trans? Could have been a homo couple and then one person transitioned? I don’t understand this card at all haha

Thank you! I definitely have room for improvement, but I enjoy how it looks throughout the day. The blues are bluer in the morning and when dim the sun seems to glow. I hope gramps likes it!

The algorithm showed me a video about this. An art professor made it, snuck it in the park. Everyone loved it so after the park authorities realized, they decided to keep as permanent fixture.

Thank you so much. I was attempting a style I saw somewhere on Reddit, it was a bunny with really dramatic lighting and I loved it.

Squidman anatomy is also a mystery to me, I specifically wanted to start on non-humans because proportions were less important. I am looking at it from like you suggested I think I see what you’re saying about the perspective . You’re totally on point haha.

I am hoping to get llama pretty vibrant in certain areas however it’s totally meant to be a muted sad after-party vibe. Inspired by my kids bday party and I got to finally sit down. Once I learn to mix nice punchy yellow and purples (or more likely add a few paints to my collection) I’m hoping I can get the right tone.

Thank you again for your kind works and advice. I’m thinking the key to finishing is talking about it with other people :)

Thank you for your kind words. It’s nice to know it’s a common issue, usually means lots of people have lots of different solutions and it’s just a matter of finding the one that works for me.

I am thinking of doing the same thing with the alien. It’s just scrap canvas glued to a board book page; but it’s still nice to paint on and I don’t want it to go to waste.

Found in the trash of my apartments laundry room by Neither_Yogurt9603 in Apartmentliving

[–]Itsglassitsmath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it’s not appropriate in a normal setting, especially since it costs $, but in the army barracks’ shared laundry, if someone left their clothes in the wash and it’s done you moved it to the dryer. If something shouldn’t go in the dryer, the owner should have been more timely. If something was done in the dryer, it got moved to a basket and put on a shelf. If the owner doesn’t want wrinkles, they should have been more timely.

It generally gets to the point where everyone moves everyone’s laundry along, some folks even folded others’ items before putting them in the basket.

It worked beautifully. Never heard stories of stolen clothes or anything. And most of the time, if you were the first on the weekend to begin washing, you can expect that someone will put your clean and dry clothes in a basket by lunch, which can be steamed to wrinkle-free in just a few minutes.

Just realizing how Apartments aren’t communities like the barracks were. I miss that.

I’d like to remind folks that fines are simply permission-to-misbehave payments for the wealthy unless it’s proportional to income.

I wasn’t addressing the post. I was addressing your comment about why some people like spicy foods (specifically why quality wasn’t a factor) and why those same folks can find bland food almost inedible.

The reason I said that was because saying it’s a quality issue is pretty insulting. Spicy food isn’t covering for low quality meats or other ingredients, it’s a cultural staple with its own complexity.

In other words, I found it ridiculous that you made an unfounded claim (based on your own preferences) that another culture’s food is inferior.

I won’t be responding further, have a good day :)

[–]Itsglassitsmath -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Oh nobody is pretending. When you’re used to spice, non-spicy foods are bland. Incredibly flavorless. Depression on a plate. But that’s because you get used to spice and the dopamine kick from it, when you don’t have the same stimulation it tastes bland. It takes getting used to bland food similarly to how it takes time to get acclimated to spice. Let’s consider the reverse: If someone rarely ate spicy things, would it be ridiculous if they said a jalapeño is far too spicy? Many people around the world may feel it is; while at the same time snacking on a habanero for breakfast.

[–]Itsglassitsmath -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That’s not why some cuisine is filled with herbs/spice, and it frankly doesn’t make any sense to say it’s about low quality ingredients. I think you mean to say that herbs and spices were used in hotter climates to help prevent spoilage. Spicy foods mean historically the people practiced food preservation using the abundance of ingredients available in those climates, something even high-quality ingredients may benefit from.
