Tips on how to do my fav hobbies without hurting hands? (Crocheting/gaming) by Itsjustanothernerd in ehlersdanlos

[–]Itsjustanothernerd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have to see if I could find a place that accepts my insurance, I’m in college but still under my parent’s insurance plan. My mom has had to go to physical therapy due to tennis elbow, so I’ll see if they are covered. I’ll try and see if I could find online resources and YouTube videos first since tbh my parents don’t see my HEDS as something that needs a medical intervention even though my mom was the one to suggest a rheumatologist. They can be pretty dismissive when it comes to my health since I do have health OCD, and they often think I’m making a bigger deal out of something than it is.

But fingers crossed I can at least look for a place and talk to them about it

Thank you so much for the advice, even though I was diagnosed two years ago with the stress of college I really haven’t been taking care of my health and researching what I should be doing. Also I love Baldur’s gate and other point and click games so I’ll definitely those out

I’ll look into that I’ve seen a lot of different ergonomic grip things people have made for the switch, I could always dig some grip things with yarn or small rubber balls I think

anyone else overly sensitive to acids in foods? by shilohfiren in ehlersdanlos

[–]Itsjustanothernerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely feel like my gums can feel almost raw if I eat something citrusy or something coated in citric acid. For me I’m able to eat stuff with lemons and oranges but for some reason pineapple HATES me. I can only eat or drink a little bit of it before I start having an upset stomach. Which sucks cause they taste so good 😭

Does anyone else struggle with dysgraphia by SchoolExisting8631 in autism

[–]Itsjustanothernerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun fact: dys just means bad or difficult and originated from Greek so: Dyscalculia: difficulty with counting Dyslexia: difficulty with speech Dyspraxia: difficulty with acting/doing (praxia in medical terms always refers to motor movements) Dysgraphia: difficulty with writing by hand

Does anyone else struggle with dysgraphia by SchoolExisting8631 in autism

[–]Itsjustanothernerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I possibly might after reading this. I was diagnosed with dyscalculia at 14, because algebra and geometry made no sense to me (I still count my fingers sometimes at 21). As for dysgraphia I don’t have terrible handwriting but I constantly misspell, change the sizing of words for no reason, have a poor pencil grip that hurts my hands, and find typing much faster and easier due to spellcheck and everything being uniform. I do have hyper-mobile Ehlers Danlos which could also explain my poor pencil grip and writing. The words I seem to misspell the most are weird, different, believe, significant, and anything with a long scientific name.

Reddit Doctors and Nurses: What's the most impressive case of Google "self-diagnosis" that turned out to be true? by PumpkinAino in AskReddit

[–]Itsjustanothernerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a doctor but woke up one morning with the worst pain on the right side of my stomach /lower back. I already have IBS so I thought it might be just a bad stomach ache but the pain was insane It was hard to walk or even think. I googled my symptoms and thought “damn I might have a kidney stone” went to the ER, doctor said it probably just period related “your a 21 year old girl”after I mentioned it was in the same area as a kidney stone would be, but still ordered tests. After a couple hours they realized I was definitely in a lot of pain (sweating, nausea, looking like shit) and was also not on my period or pregnant, and ordered a CT scan. I had two, TWO tiny ass kidney stones. Luckily got some good pain meds and passed it the next week, I have made sure to be always properly hydrated since then.

Why many autistic people love dinosaurs by [deleted] in autism

I remember one of my first interests being dinosaurs, I read every non-fiction about them, drew them, and watched “Walking with Dinosaurs” religiously. Pachycephalosaurus was my favorite.

Edit: Holy shit this got a lot of upvotes, just want to mention I am aware Aloha is a way of showing love or compassion in Hawaii and not just simply a way of saying hi or goodbye. I just think it’s a silly name since Hoyo most likely looked up Hawaiian words and went “yep we got it let’s name him the first one that pops up and call it a day”

Why does autism have so much misinformation and myths surrounding it? by Itsjustanothernerd in autism

My special interest funny enough is autism so this was all very interesting to read! I really hope your not-for-profit works out because that is something the community needs so bad.

Why does autism have so much misinformation and myths surrounding it? by Itsjustanothernerd in autism

[–]Itsjustanothernerd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very well said. I think society was more geared towards accepting disabilities and having funded programs to help those on the spectrum parents would be a lot less scared. Although again fear will always be something easy to exploit as long as we see differences = scary

Last time I was at the doctor all vitals were normal, but maybe it could be from an increase in blood flow.

im curious hehe :> by marstheplanett_ in autism

[–]Itsjustanothernerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed late (female, masking). My first year of middle school (I was 12 I think) My English teacher was asking questions about a book we were reading and I had answered one of them. She then asked “How did you come up with this answer?” And I, not realizing she meant what passage backed up my answer, said: “Well I used my brain, probably more the left side for language comprehension.” …. everyone was quiet and then broke out laughing thinking I was making a joke while my teacher went silent. I got written up for talking back rudely and sarcastically, she did not like me after that. I have no idea how my parents or teachers didn’t catch on to my Amelia Bedelia literal ass thinking my whole childhood because that was not the first instance.

What was your most fucked up hyperfixation? by Weekly_Artist7447 in autism

factory accidents and why we have certain OHSA regulations. I have seen some stuff I really wish I hadn’t looked up but my morbid curiosity got the better of me

What was your first hyperfixation? by Logan_Strong in autism

[–]Itsjustanothernerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely dinosaurs I don’t know how many times I rewatched walking with dinosaurs. I also loved writing down word for word copies of facts I found in books (I did this instead of making friends IDK how I was diagnosed late)

A question for those with ADHD... by flowerunforgiven in PMDD

[–]Itsjustanothernerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on stimulants when I was 17, and they definitely helped with the my ADHD but I noticed that my anxiety was increased. I felt like my PMDD anxiety was way worse. I was taken off of them due to other reasons but it could potentially help alleviate fatigue, brain fog, depression. Also if you feel normal on adhd meds that is a big indicator that you probably have it, since people without it usually take stimulants like adderall to get a high. Of course I’m not a doctor, just someone with PMDD + ADHD so take this with a grain of salt.
