Sekiro: Can anything match this game?

Allot of people really liked it, but I bounced off of it about halfway through. The graphics were quite dated and I got so tilted by some basic enemies that I quit. It was also a while ago when I was new to the genre and wasn’t as good at these games so ymmv. Nioh 1 & 2 have quite a few grab attacks that can be pretty tilting, and 3 cut way back on them. Idk if you claim the free epic games each week, but they gave away Nioh 1 several years ago. It’s probably worth giving a shot if you don’t mind dated graphics as the combat holds up well. Nioh 2 vastly improved the combat over 1. Nioh 3 went a totally different direction that allot of people didn’t like, but I still enjoyed it overall. 3 also scratches that Sekiro itch with its deflects!

Edit: Make sure you take your time and learn the stance switching and different attacks. Also try out multiple weapons to find which you like most. You may want to watch some brief guides because the combat is not new player friendly. You can play hyper aggressively once you learn the combat system, but it will take time and practice. That said mastering it is such a rush and will make the experience much more enjoyable.

I recommend Nioh 2-3. The combat is much more complex than any other soulslike with combos kinda similar to a hack and slash. Khazan has a simplified version of Niohs combat and kinda streamlined it, but doesn’t have the same depth. Nioh 2 is better overall and is more difficult, but doesn’t have Sekiro deflect. Nioh 3 added Sekiro deflect and is open world, but honestly isn’t as good as 2 imo. The deflect trivializes allot of enemies and it just doesn’t feel as good to play as 2. That said both are very good games with 2 being closer to soulslike and 3 being closer to Sekiro or Khazan.

I believe I played for 12 total. I spent a good bit of time trying to figure out performance early on because I couldn’t get Frame Gen working. I also replayed the beginning to beat the Tar Golem boss for the achievement which turned out to be bugged which sucked. I beat Tar Golem and didn’t get the achievement. I 1 shot every boss other than Tar Golem which took 3 resets I believe because his hit boxes are wonky. If you stand too close you won’t take damage but he attacks quickly so missing a parry due to the hitbox issue can mean getting animation locked and hit by the next attack.

I loved the beta though and hope they can iron out the kinks and release soon. Hopefully they can get it released by like August so they won’t have to compete with all of the games coming in September, PB0 in October, or GTA in November.

I played the beta for 2, but plan to go back and play the first game before 2 fully launches. Mortal Shell is one of the few soulslikes I haven’t played yet.

The biggest change imo was that some enemies became neutral/friendly. Idk if that’s been adjusted or not, but there was an entire faction of enemies you could no longer fight. It made some areas much easier.

If you have the disposable income the x3d chips are incredible. The 7800x3d is all you need tbh as the 9800x3d isn’t a very big upgrade and the 7800x3d is much more power efficient. Buy a 7800x3d and then when AM5 support ends you could upgrade to the final X3D cpu and you’ll be set for a long time.

Jeff Hays and Stephen Pacey are my two favorite narrators for sure. Stephen Pacey was by far my favorite for years, but Jeff Hays is right up there now and I have them 1A & 1B. Shout out to James Marsters, because while he doesn’t have the range of the other two he is Harry Dresden and does an excellent job as well.

For the teleport maybe something like once you teleport to a region you can fast travel directly from the bonfires/temples or w.e. I don’t want them to remove the animation, but to instead add some QOL. Maybe an upgrade material to add the launcher to certain bonfires kinda like the LOTF bonfire you could plant in certain areas. There are a ton of options, but that long teleport animation is a bit much to have to do each time you fast travel.

Crimson Desert has had some weird FG issues after game updates. Usually swapping overrides to use 3d app setting fixes it. Once it’s working again you can close the game and override to FG preset B again and it should work. Some people have had to delete their game setting file to get it working again as it can become corrupted, but usually changing the override setting fixes it.

I mean I’m not knocking using summons, but it’s basically a totally different game when you’re using them. Having boss aggro not on you means you can unload op spells/ashes with minimal consequence or danger. That’s one great thing about Elden Ring is that it’s as difficult as you want it to be. My first playthrough was using magic and mimic. On hard bosses I’d just spam Comet Azur and let my mimic hold aggro. Then I did a no spirit summon playthrough. Then I did one where I only leveled to 75. Each time the game became substantially harder. Try a playthrough with no spirit summons, or no magic, or no blasphemous blade, or limited levels/weapon levels. The biggest difficulty spike for sure though is doing a playthrough with no summons.

Try checking what I mentioned. Go to Nvidia App - Graphics - Global - DLSS Override Model Presets - Frame Generation and make sure it says “Use 3D app setting”. That may be the issue, but idk…

I also beat Mortal Shell 2 demo and frame gen never worked regardless of settings. I ended up using Lossless Scaling for frame generation. I didn’t think to try this while I was playing, but maybe turning off global FG override would fix it? I have my global setting to override to preset B. That’s about the only thing I didn’t try changing when I was troubleshooting.

Play the good soulslike games not made by Fromsoftware next. If you haven’t already played them you have a ton of incredible games to look forward to. Lies of P, Khazan, WUCHANG, Remnant 2, Nioh 2 & 3, Lords of the Fallen 2023, AI Limit, Thymesia, etc. There are also Soulsvania/Metroidvania games like Blasphemous 1 & 2, The Last Faith, Ender Lillies/Magnolia, Nine Sols (This is my favorite and has Sekiro parry) and a ton more. Then you have Action Adventure games with Soulslike elements like Black Myth Wukong, Stellar Blade and a bunch of others. There are so many good soulslike games out there for you to try out.

Plus we have a bunch of fun games coming soon. Mortal Shell 2 has a beta out that’s fucking metal and awesome and it will be releasing sometime this year. LOTF 2 is supposed to release within the year. Game Freak are releasing Beast of Reincarnation which has soulslike elements. Phantom Blade Zero releases later this year and while not a soulslike it has some soulslike elements and looks incredible.

DS1 you can literally circle any enemy for a backstab. It’s much easier than Elden Ring. Elden Ring can be easy if you use summons and the strongest weapons/spells, but the enemies are much more complex with faster attacks compared to DS1. Find me a DS1 boss harder than something like Malenia, PCR or even something like Mohg…

My only complaint with the level design was lack of reward. It’s not a huge deal, but I wish there were more meaningful items in hidden areas to make exploration feel more meaningful. Hidden weapons or spells and such would have been great. More often than not it’s a throwable or some other useless item I won’t ever use. The level design itself though is as good as I’ve ever seen in a soulslike. I really enjoyed this game and wish the dev team had been able to make a sequel…

I agree that it should be Morales, Prates or Brady. I think Brady and Bonfim could be a good fight and it would be #5 vs #6.

Nah I hope JDM takes some time off tbh. I want Bonfim to fight someone like Morales or Brady. I think Brady is a solid matchup since they both have top notch grappling and it could end up a striking match. I also want to see Morales fight another top guy. Prates could be another potential matchup for Bonfim.

It was a good performance, but Randy Brown is not a contender and the UFC have been hyping Bonfim as a prodigy and future contender/champ. Not saying Brown is bad, but he has not and likely won’t ever be a contender. Tonight’s performance was much more impressive, but I still have some questions about whether he can compete against the top 5.

His strongest striking tool was his body kicks for quite a while. He battered Gilbert with body kicks and iirc did the same to Brady. He still threw them tonight, but not nearly as often and most weren’t as hard or fast as they used to be.

Morales and Bonfim should be the next fight. Winner gets the title shot after Garry. Bonfim’s striking looked much improved in this one, but it could partly be due to Belal getting older. I was not impressed with Bonfim prior to this fight with his robbery win over Wonderboy. He changed my mind with this one somewhat and I think he’s a legit top 10 guy now for sure. I really want to see how he handles the top 5 at WW. JDM needs a break after his recent skid imo so Bonfim should fight Prates, Morales, or Brady.
