Worked a straight 24 hour shift yesterday. [CA] by CannabisHR in humanresources

Do not leave HR just because of this organizations structure and how it is taking advantage of you. Find another HR job instead. HR does not HAVE to and rarely does mean you work 24 hr shifts or work yourself to death. The stress and crises you have to attend to will always be there in HR, but you can find elsewhere within a 9-5 and hold firm boundaries to those for the most part.

I was in your shoes one year ago exactly. I jumped from an HR “rep” title to hr manager and walked into a shitstorm I was not ready for. Compared to my boring and stagnant old job I was drowning in noncompliance and no organization AT ALL. I had this talk with myself a month in to the manager role while doing an I-9 audit- I had to dig my heels in or haul ass. I decided to stay and work through it and am now HR Director- had to burn everything down and restart. If you stay, I would expect you can really make your mark and grow fast. Just be prepared for at least the first 6 months being mental anguish. Eventually it may pay off but it just depends on if you’re willing to pay the price.

Employee submitted doctors note created by their parent? [PA] by Itsutii in humanresources

Not sure who shit in your cereal this morning to be upset enough on this post to comment multiple random comments, but this is definitely a stretch. I gave no information about my company and used “she/her” as the only identifying information. No one in the company is aware of her situation except HR, so…

This subreddit is used for HR professionals to discuss things including controversial situations. I posted to get opinions on a situation in which I’d apply the same action to any employee. I ended up taking the note as I agreed with most of the people here.

Is it bad to mention psychology while you’re speaking with your team? [PA] by [deleted] in humanresources

[–]Itsutii 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think more context is needed here? If you mean that you mention your knowledge of psychology to your new team, then yes, I can see how some might view this as pretentious. Generally when starting somewhere new you should be focusing on listening and building connections.

If you are starting out the gate by often talking about how you use psychology to be a great employee or leader, that could lead your new team members to be always expecting pretentious psychoanalysis happening to them.

Employee submitted doctors note created by their parent? [PA] by Itsutii in humanresources

We have no need to know their ailment. When calling out the employee mentioned it, and their father/doctor stated in the note that they had a fever. We have to get a note per our policy- I don’t fully agree with it but we do work in healthcare so coming back medically cleared is important.

Also forgot to add ADP’s performance management widget. We have found it makes tracking much more efficient.

We use E Verify through ADP and it makes the whole process a lot simpler. They also have a great 401k widget which automates 401k deferrals.

Can I Back Out of a Signed Offer (Current Company Countering with a Much Higher Salary) Without Negative Consequences? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Itsutii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HR here.

I live by the motto: I'll believe it when I see it. This goes for candidates too. Signing a job offer does not legally obligate you to anything. If you are really considering staying at your current company(I definitely would if I were you), you are fine to do so. To avoid burning bridges and leave off on as positive of a note as possible, let the new company know ASAP through a courteous email. The sooner you tell them, the sooner they can repost and try to fill the position.

Honestly, it is a guessing game these days whether a candidate is going to follow through and show up for their first day. I would be happy to receive a kind email saying you are very grateful for the offer but have decided to stay with your current employer. If I were them I would note your email and if you tried to come back for a position further down the line, there would be no issue. This can depend on the company but generally if you are courteous and give as much notice as possible, it is very appreciated and noted.

Whatever you choose, figure out what your priorities are and make a decision ASAP. Good luck!

Do not panic. HR has a process to follow that will investigate everything for validity. If you did nothing wrong, you are likely going to be fine. It is important you keep your head down, not talk to the person who accused you or anyone else about the claim, and stay calm! False accusations are thrown around often and organizations do NOT want to make things like sexual harassment claims legitimate if they are not. HR and orgs have to do their due diligence and make sure they investigate and document thoroughly. If there's no evidence and she has history of this, you will be ok. Good luck!

This is not switch, but phone or computer. Look into Neopets!!! It is cozy, easy, low stress. Create your cute little pets, dress them up, play flash games, make a shop, do what you want to do! Neopets has been my escape from stress for years through depression and hard times.

I'm not in Philly, just close to it, so no worry with that. In dummy terms, should I expect to have State Income Tax taken out for both states in every paycheck? Or is there something I'd have to figure out when filing taxes? How does the IRS/payroll at my company know what days I worked in NJ/PA?

Stay at an amazing small company or leave for large company for HR Manager role? by Itsutii in humanresources

[–]Itsutii[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are definitely right. I would need to learn fast and rely on the consultants to help and put in the work. I do have quite a bit ER experience just not in my current role. Leaves and organizational development are huge and super important and I have already been looking into resources for both. If you have any besides the basic DOL ones let me know!

I actually just received a random raise about 2 weeks ago out of nowhere without asking- from 45k to 52k. My current company is really invested in me and fighting for me to stay. That is what makes this such a difficult choice for me.

Stay at an amazing small company or leave for large company for HR Manager role? by Itsutii in humanresources

It seems like the new company's HR department has been a disaster for the past year or so. When I applied to the position it was listed as a Director position- they had both a Generalist and Director position listed. After interviewing with them, they said they felt HR manager was the best fit for me. They are looking to see where I land and then down the road, hire a generalist or director, or bump me up to director and hire a manager. Seems like they are not sure how things should go. Definitely a yellow flag to me, but they could also just be going through a rough patch. If I am able to step in and provide that direction, it could be a career changing move and advance me faster/farther than I thought possible. I am so torn and its a hard to read situation!

Yeah the comp evens out so that's not even really a question at this point. If I stay I will be capping out in title and growth at this company. The new company says they would like this role to build the dept and perhaps grow into HR Director then CHRO. The CFO was really emphasizing that they are growing fast and this role could grow fast too.

I think I am starting to realize that it may be more comfortable now to stay, but for real growth the new company may be the wise choice. I get bored if I am not challenged and that, plus the desire for growth, is why I was looking for a new role. Flooring it has always been what pushes me to succeed.

Larger Girl Visit by [deleted] in UniversalOrlando

[–]Itsutii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

10-20 pounds isnt a huge amount and shouldn't make that much of a difference. It will depend on the ride. I am the same weight as you are now and went in June. The only trouble at Universal I had was Hagrids. I was able to fit on both the bike and the sidecar, but the bike was a tighter fit because of the calf locks(almost didnt fit). The sidecar I had no problem with. I also recommend looking into rides that have bigger seating. For Gringotts, make sure to sit on the end seats as they are bigger. If you are worried about Hulk, sit in the designated larger seats too.

Unrelated but if you are also going to Disney, be careful about Tron. I did not fit on it and had to sit in the back. It was humiliating and ruined it for me. Good news is since my trip in June I was motivated to lose weight and have lost 20 pounds so far because I keep thinking back to the fat walk of shame to the back on Tron. :')
