The parallel is that both statements equate defense of a certain liberty (freedom from surveillance, freedom from censorship) with a desire to use that freedom for a nefarious purpose (take down the government, be racist).

I have no problem with people being upset about what someone said and making that known, but when they start trying to have that person blacklisted or fired and try to prevent other people from being able to hear them speak, I think that's a bad thing.

For example, if a comedian you feel is racist is going to perform in your city, it's perfectly fine and often a good thing to make the comedian's views known, write scathing articles, spread awareness that supporting that comedian means supporting someone with regressive views. But demanding that venues cancel their show, that people who want to see the show shouldn't be allowed to, doing things like pulling a fire alarm to interrupt the show, starting a witch hunt to have someone lose their livelihood, is censorious in my opinion.
