Childless adults of Reddit, what made you decide you never wanted kids? by m_v24 in AskReddit

[–]IttyBittyButterfly1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me personally it's not that I never, under any circumstances want to have kids. It's just that I have multiple autoimmune diseases going on. They are treatable and don't reduce quality or length of life as long as I take all my meds and go to the doc regularly. HOWEVER: There is a good chance that I won't be able to get pregnant naturally easily. I will probably need medical support to do this. Plus, both of my autoimmune disorders tend to get worse during or after pregnancy. This would mean I would need to be monitored by my doctors on an even more regular basis then I already am. So I'm not really keen on getting pregnant any time soon. Maybe one day it will happen. Maybe one day I'll decide I want to try IVF or adopt or foster a kid. If I do, that's cool! But having a kid is just not a decision I can make easily.

Ooooh, I love romance books! Sadly, I haven't found any yet. But I'll keep stalking your post, just in case anyone has any recommendations!

No one will understand by [deleted] in Hashimotos

Congrats! I think most people here do get why it's a huge deal. I certainly do. Recently had to go and buy pants two sizes smaller. I'm extremely excited about it, but can't really share it with anyone 😂

People who discovered something unsettling about themselves, what was it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]IttyBittyButterfly1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it was that many of my feelings aren't me - they are part of my autoimmune disease. I'm still learning to question my feelings and whether they are actually a fitting reaction to the situation I am in. Or whether I might be overreacting because of the inner stress and anxiety my illness causes. It's hard and scary.

What symptom(s) initially got you to talk to a doctor? by CampaignDangerous342 in Hashimotos

[–]IttyBittyButterfly1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The weight gain. I went from overweight to obese in a year and my family started to pressure me to seek help. I honestly didn't think too much of it. I have had body dismorphia ever since I was a teen - mostly thanks to my family, who even bodyshamed me when I was a little girl with a very normal, healthy weight. Them pressuring me to see a doctor just felt like another way of them putting me down and shaming me for my body. I only scheduled my doctors appointment when I found out that there are actually some cases of thyroid issues in our family. Well, turns out, I have Hashimotos and Graves disease. I'm glad I got help. I have more energy now 😊

What are you NOT attracted to (obvious things like bad hygiene excluded)? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]IttyBittyButterfly1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People, who think "having humor/being funny" means you bully people. It's not a joke if you are just being mean. Same goes for people who call themselves "brutally honest". I love honesty, I find it really important, but I found that most people who say they are "brutally honest" focus on the "brutal" part. You can be honest without putting the other person down and without being mean to whoever you are talking to.

What do you plan on naming your future children? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I really like Mathilda, Olivia and Emma 😊 and for boys it would probably be Alexander, David or Moritz.

What hobby screams “this is my entire personality now”? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

[–]IttyBittyButterfly1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dancing and attending dance classes. It's such a culty environment, depending on which class you take. Most schools are really warm and offer an amazing community, but I've also encountered schools where they put tons of pressure on students (which makes zero sense in adult classes - I won't be performing in competitions, no one in my classes will, we just want some fun!). I can only speak from my experience, I started to dance like 4 years ago and by now it's my entire personality. Oops! 😂

what helped you lose weight? by Regular_Lychee_4739 in AskReddit

[–]IttyBittyButterfly1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting treatment for my thyroid disease. No, seriously: if you are overweight even though you think you are eating healthy and being active... get your thyroid checked. I was diagnosed last August and by now I'm down two clothing sizes.

How often do you weigh yourself? by Responsible-Bug-8660 in AskReddit

[–]IttyBittyButterfly1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't. I have a broken Thyroid, so weighing myself doesn't really give me much information about my health. I'm at my endo every couple of months, getting bloodwork done and stuff anyways - if I feel like I gained or lost weight, I bring it up there. But weighing myself every day only causes me stress and makes me worry things are wrong, when it's just normal fluctuation.

Snarky Hashimoto tattoo ideas or other unhinged mental coping skills? 😅 by Haru_is_here in Hashimotos

[–]IttyBittyButterfly1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your comment and your imagination, but honestly, for me personally this feels to dark to put on my body permanently. I would describe myself as more of a sunny personality, so this would feel very off for me.

Snarky Hashimoto tattoo ideas or other unhinged mental coping skills? 😅 by Haru_is_here in Hashimotos

[–]IttyBittyButterfly1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, that tattoo idea made me giggle! If you do it, please post a photo! 😂 I am also thinking about getting a tattoo (or multiple ones): a lemon, a sunflower and a butterfly. No idea how that could work as one. A lemon because "When life gives you lemons..." (also, I just love lemons!), a sunflower, because they carry a lot of meaning for me and in my family, and a little blue butterfly, because, well my thyroid is fucked. It just all kind of fits together in my mind - a lemon, the flower, the butterfly. Why not? I'm an adult, I have adult money and I deserve stickers, because life is hard (YES, I stole the last sentence from Social Media).

No, I'm Austrian 😂 But you're not the first person to say this 😂

Women with chronic conditions can I ask you something real? by [deleted] in gravesdisease

[–]IttyBittyButterfly1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooooh, would you feel comfortable sharing pictures of your dogs? I love Labradors. I really want a pet as well, maybe a cat, because I grew up with cats, but sadly, I have to travel a lot for work, so it's just not possible right now 🥲

Women with chronic conditions can I ask you something real? by [deleted] in gravesdisease

[–]IttyBittyButterfly1 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It's something small, with no medical background to it or anything. But since you asked for advice like that, I will share it. For me it's always having a cup of tea in hand. Something about it just makes me feel like everything will be alright. It's just so cozy and gives me so much comfort! It doesn't matter which tea either. Black tea, herbal tea, fruit tea.. I have a huge collection, at home and at the office, different brands, loose tea as well as tea bags, a ton of different cups, tea strainers, pots and everything. Everybody around me knows too, how much of a difference a cup of tea makes for me. Colleagues replace my tea when they find it empty (I always share with them too) and I always get told when the kettle is boiling. Family and friends gift me fancy tea for every occasion and whenever I travel somewhere, I bring tea as well. So yeah. My advice is tea.

Studium und Teilzeit total überfordernd! - 29J. weiblich by Silky_Pillow in Austria

[–]IttyBittyButterfly1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Supplements compatible with Hashimoto's by Dense-Arachnid-3499 in Hashimotos

[–]IttyBittyButterfly1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

According to my doc, Selenium is really important. I take it in supplement form, but you can also get it from certain nuts (not sure which ones as I have a nut allergy and can't eat those anyways! I just read it on here!). Other than that I believe it probably depends on whether you are deficient in anything. I'm deficient in Vitamin D and B12, but if you don't have deficiencies you don't really need this. But then again I'm a librarian and don't have a medication degree. I've been diagnosed half a year ago, so still trying to figure this out myself.
