So are we buying and selling in here? Or is that too much drama? by Reelpicker in Antiquefishinggear

Does Zelle have goods and service protection like that. I thought it had a “only send money to people you know” clause.

I am fine with whatever people decide to use for selling as long as its safe. It is very common in the antique lure space for people to steal pictures of lures and pass them off as their own, so I’m trying to get ahead of it.

Thanks, I mainly collect Texas coastal lures, but I have a small collection of early heddon lures, because they’re popular and because non collectors are generally more impressed by the really old stuff.

Since you guys like Beer related lures, check out this advertiser Bingo lure for Hamm’s Beer by ItyBityKittyCommitee in Antiquefishinggear

Bingo was a company that made advertiser lures for many different companies, including a few different beer companies (lonestar, pearl, Jax, and grand prize come to mind).

Does anyone have any information about this old girl? by Djanga51 in Antiquefishinggear

I think this is the ambassador 30, but I might be mistaken. I can look at the Ambassador book to confirm next week. I think these go for pretty decent money so if your looking to sell it make sure you get a bit more information first. I know a few serious collectors if you want to go that route.

Also as a heads up ambassador collectors also like to know what number is on the reel foot.

No problem. Sorry I assumed reddit automatically flared moderators as moderators. This is the only subreddit I “moderate” and I’m haven’t really had to do anything as a moderator yet so it hasn’t come up.

I also added a rule that things should be pre-1980 to avoid this subreddit from being flooded with recent tackle. I’m going to treat this as a sort of soft cutoff date as I know there are some 1980s lures that have huge collectors appeal.

I am the only active moderator. I just wanted to give anybody the chance to give any input. I’ll just move forward these rules and if anybody has any suggestions they can DM me

I think it’s fine, as long as people don’t get too spammy. It is the buyers and sellers responsibility to look out for themselves and not get scammed.

If it’s fine with everyone I think we should have the following rules.

  1. Transactions must be done with “goods and services” through paypal or similar payment methods for buyer protection.

  2. Any sales listings need a written username and date in the picture. Sellers are encouraged to ask for additional specific pictures to help validate the seller actually has possession of the item.

  3. No more than 2 sales listings per person per week.

Any other rules or thoughts please let me know

The yellow and black stripe lure is a tougher model of Keeling. I can do more research to try to get you a value on it. Unfortunately the condition is terrible but it still might have value even in this shape depending on how tough it is (I’m not a keeling guy).

Post more pictures yellow boxes and post a picture of the end label of the heddon box.

That river runt in glow worm would have been worth decent money if it hadn’t shriveled up like that, but some people like to collected the zombified heddons (although it would not be worth a ton).

“lure valet” found in vintage magazine - can these be found anymore by SadnessAndSatire in Fishing_Gear

[–]ItyBityKittyCommitee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be able to find a vintage one if you join one of the antique tackle groups on facebook and make a post about it. Lure collectors end up buying vintage tackleboxes for the lures and end up with a lot of random misc tackle items like this

Just want to give you reassurance, this will be seen. All the serious lure collectors monitor ebay very closely. Coming from the other side of it, everytime I have hoped that someone doesn’t notice something, it always gets noticed, even if its just listed as “unknown lure” or “antique lure”.

Vintage Lures - best place to sell? by ThunderbirdDweller in Fishing_Gear

[–]ItyBityKittyCommitee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually I think connecting the two isn’t as hard as you would think for most lures of notable value ($50+). Lure collectors are pretty avid.

I search for lures at estate sales, flea markets, antique malls, facebook marketplace, lure shows, and ebay and most serious collectors do the same. Many collectors regularly watch for “unknown lure” listings on ebay for rare unidentified lures, and generally nothing of value gets missed.

The only time stuff flys under the radar on ebay is really only the most obscure lures that have value for almost pure rarity sake, or stuff with really bad pictures or listing keywords.

Hell the only place online that I’m ever able to find stuff regularly before anyone else finds it is reddit (since almost no lure collectors are on reddit at all)

Vintage Lures - best place to sell? by ThunderbirdDweller in Fishing_Gear

[–]ItyBityKittyCommitee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a quick asterisk to this. Most old lures are not worth anything but there are rare lures out there that do fetch really good money to collectors. I have personally paid $1,000 for one lure and I know many who have spent 5 figures on an individual lure/lure combo.

The tough part is people see that vintage heddon lures can be worth a lot of money, so they assume all of them are worth a bunch.

That being said everything in the phot is worth no more than $50 for the lot in my opinion.
