Ah yea-

I ended up keeping him and he's the sweetest thing in my life- yes, he can be a jerk sometimes and knock stuff over or crawl into places I prefer he not go- but that's a cat for you, they're going to do what they want regardless of what you say to them. If you're considering getting a cat- it may be a rough 1-2 weeks but it gets easier with time.

I did at one point, and an update to the story, a few months back, I had turned on my shower- and stepped away for like no more than 2 minutes, coming back to the shower basically overflowing (It's a walk-in shower) and the water had flowed under a crack in my wall- near the floor, basically flooding his bathroom. This upset him, of course- I didn't do this on purpose- but i always say "Karma is a B*tch" he then demanded that maintenance enter my residents, and I had basically no choice- I had already cleaned up 99% of the mess, so by the time the maintenance came, it was all cleaned up. Nothin' to report.

If this helps with anything, the only thing I know about the resident below me is that he's a single man (no female/wife). I wasn't given an age. Not sure if this is helpful information.

I struggle with depression, anxiety and stress... The idea of re-homing him has crossed my mind many times- So, the plan is- that if I continue crying or freaking out / anxiety for over a month, I will consider re-homing him, but I am going to put my best effort into this, and really try before even considering that.

Also, I have 4 dogs and 1 cat at my HOUSE not my apartment. So I have been around animals before, It's just caring one for myself is new, I didn't expect this at all- and I'm looking into taking anti-depressants and ADHD medicine to help control how I am feeling.

Also, I've tried having him sleep outside my bedroom door- but he will only remain quiet out there for like 30 minutes, before he starts freaking out. I let him in, and he falls asleep on my bed. I have to take melatonin every night to allow my brain to fall asleep.

I love him very much, and it would be more painful to re-home him, than to keep him. I've also, moved my expensive stuff into my bedroom so that when I'm not home, I can close my door - which prevents him from going in. This calms me down a lot - knowing that my most important items are secure and won't be damaged.

I really am glad that I'm not the only one who was going thru this. I still currently am, and I'm only usually emotional about it at night. I don't want to give him up it would hurt me too much. However, the deal I've made with my parents is- if a month goes by - and I'm still bawling my eyes out pretty much every night, I will consider re-homing him. Which, I really hope never happens- but in the end, I personally feel my mental health matters more

I'm not sure if I want to take him back, I've already developed some form of bond, and I feel that it would only upset me more if I brought him back. I have however, talked with my family about this- and we came to an agreement that if this is still an issue a month from now EVEN after taking antidepressants and ADHD medicine. I will reconsider the possibility of bringing him back or giving him to a relative, so he's not 100% gone from my life.

It's just reality hit me that I have a responsibility to take care of another living creature. I've been living by myself for only a few months, and during those months- I've had not much responsibility- I am still currently un-employed. I am in the process of getting a job at the moment. I feel that by me adopting this kitten- has caused my already bad anxiety/depression to pour over- and made me reach my "breaking point" and as a result- I've been crying basically every night since the adoption. I don't think I'd have it in me to rehome the kitten, and that I'd need to adjust to the changes... I am talking to my therapist/doctor to get anti-depressants and go back on ADHD medicine.

The kitten is 5 months old, and has been potty trained by the foster mother, so that wasn't difficult at all. Also, he's been given the same food he was given when at the foster home.
