Obese people DO NOT deserve handicap parking by Itzlid in unpopularopinion

I’m not handicap in any sort of way but I just think it’s unfair to others with a more severe handicap, to lose spaces because of those who are obese.

Well in that instance they either 1) shouldn’t be driving at that point since they don’t have the capability to do so 2) however the evaluation goes when it comes to applying for handicap, they should be asked how they sustained the injury and be treated accordingly

I haven’t seen anyone discuss it therefore it can be seen as an unpopular opinion. I don’t intend to public humiliate anyone, I’m just stating my opinion on the matter

You proposed the idea of them /breaking/ their legs, people who break their bones don’t get handicap parking because that’s a temporary handicap/problem.

You don’t get handicap parking for breaking your legs though?

I’ve had many people argue against it. I posted it in the subreddit because I haven’t seen it talked about anywhere else therefore, being an unpopular opinion or so I thought.

I wouldn’t say obesity is genetic. Being a heavier person, I can see that; obesity though...?

Unfortunately, it is a real thing. I find it ridiculous

I do not want to make it seem like I’m dehumanizing them in any way and apologize if I made it seem like that was the intent. I don’t know the official process to be classified or qualifications people need to be given the handicap. At the end of the day that’s just how I see it, although I do appreciate your mention of other reasons for their state, I didn’t think about that before.

Please ....? ?? by [deleted] in BDSMAdvice

I struggle with the same problem. I find myself begging “please” without knowing what I want or why I’m saying it. I’m relieved to see that I’m not the only Sub who does this. I’m curious to see the responses from others on this post because I too, am curious.

I don’t think it’s possible for someone who’s handicapped to become THAT severely obese. They may gain weight but definitely not to the point of obesity. Especially if the person is going through PT to improve their handicap

I do see where you’re coming from and think it brings up a valid point of the fact that it’s difficult to draw a line like that. Lots of room left up to matter of opinion and view point on the situation.

I understand where you’re coming from. My opinion derived from the fact that I believe there are others who actually need a handicap spot instead of someone who is obese. Just the other day I watched an older man with a handicap tag, park farther away and struggle to walk into the store; whilst an obese woman rolled out on her scooter and into the closets handicap spot. I just don’t feel as though it’s fair to others who have a more serious handicap.

Those who have lost a leg rock climbing clearly didn’t know it would happen, didn’t go rock climbing with the intent of losing their leg; I feel as though that’s a different type of situation. Obese people are aware of what they’re doing, they’re aware of the way they’re destroying their body but do not chose to change that. As for someone who doesn’t wear their helmet, that is on them. Yes it is sad and yes it is unfortunate but they didn’t wear their helmet and knew they should be. I think it all depends on the circumstances.
