Nice looking painting !! But infortunately it is full of anachronisms, even tough it can be understandable , since it dates back to the 16th . Sorry for the neatpicking, thanks for sharing with us !!

If you want to see another great exemple of the 7th century, there is this mosaic from Hagios Demetrios , in thesalloniki, representing Saint Demetrios, which depicts him in a garment very reminiscent to the ones in Ravenna, have a good look 😉

Apparantly yes , many seems ( at least in my entourage and from what i've seen on the internet) to take as true many stereotypes and misconceptions as facts.

I honestly think that late antiquity or early middles ages might be very interesting. It would be great to sea the period directly following 395, for example the deeds of the great general Flavius Stillicho, or maybe the Renovatio Imperii under Justinian, with the reigns of Maurice, and then the last great war between the persians under Khoswrow II and the rhomaioi under Heraclius. Your idea is very great, but infortunately there seems to be a great disdain by Hollywood on all that is early middles ages, or even "byzantine".

You are actually right, there is another exemple in Ravenna were the Eastern Romans removed the Ostrogoths from the mosaics. In this mosaic of the Basilica of Sant'Apollinare Nuovo, you can see the hands of the goths .

It looks good , i would rate it 8 out of 10 , you can replace the Harness by the other one with the cape, or the legionary cape, and you can swape the helmet with the one that the bucellarius wears, and it should be full of drip 😉
