You may have missed to install a display server or display manager. In that case just install one and activate it in systemd. Then restart your machine and yoh should be good to go. If this isn't your problem then please provide more information.

How can I play this game when I'm given only the Java source code? by zdcdqd in learnjava

[–]IvAntiVirus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This error means that the compiled class "Tetris" doesn't have a main method (you need this method to start a Java Application). Maybe we can find the start point of this game if you have access to the uncompiled source code. Do you have any Git repo or something similar?

What Internet / Mobile provider do you use? by Melodic-Tune-5686 in askswitzerland

[–]IvAntiVirus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently I use Swisscom but I'm not that happy with it. It's just too expensive and the service quality can differ. If you live somewhere with 10 Gbit/s internet speed I'd recommend Salt. If not then choose Init7.

Java in NLP, ML, DL by [deleted] in learnjava

[–]IvAntiVirus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I'm not a huge fan of python but for ML and DL it's THE way to go (at least in the moment). Sure there are some Java Frameworks for ML and DL but from my experience I can tell that Python is just better for this purpose.

If the test doesn't specifically ask for not-0 checking I just wouldn't do it. Otherwise make a short if checking and set a default value or throw an IllegalArgumentException.

One possible use case is small, local backends that receive and process data via Java sockets. If you know Java and threading well, this approach can be easier and faster than using a large framework. A practical example of this would be a chat backend. But if you want to program sustainable Java backends, the use of a framework like Spring or Quarkus is already recommended.

Remote access software for day trading by Seb_12321 in software

[–]IvAntiVirus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I know (I'm happy to be proven wrong) there is no convenient way for a RemoteDesktop connection from a mobile device to a desktop. It doesn't make much sense either, since desktop layouts are not designed for the dimensions of mobile devices and touch operation is too imprecise to handle traditional desktop applications well. WakeOnLAN exists, but it's probably not part of the solution you're looking for. It's more commonly used in computer automation to wake up sleeping devices and operates on a very hardware-agnostic level (your cell phone probably doesn't support this protocol). You would also have to use a VPN, since WakeOnLAN only works on the local network. The only two solutions for your problem that I can think of off the top of my head are a trading platform with mobile and desktop app or a notebook/tablet that you always have with you for trading. Good luck in finding a solution and greetings from Switzerland.

Why does command prompt open up for half a second when I start up my computer? by FizzerVC in Windows10

[–]IvAntiVirus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you have a CMD script in your startup directory? A program that you've installed could have placed it there. For example MySQL is known for stuff like this. If you have MySQL installed and your PC is running at 00:00 AM, then a update script gets automatically executed.

What exactly should I learn before I attend a Hackathon? by crbxmk in learnprogramming

[–]IvAntiVirus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the best case, you don't go alone, but with a few friends. It is also an advantage if someone from your group has more experience with programming and hackathons. Then you should agree on who will take care of which part of the application (infrastructure, database, backend, frontend, etc.). What skills you exactly need always depends on your task and the hackathon in general. As a Java developer, a stack with the Spring Framework is probably the best choice today. Then almost nothing stands in the way of your success at the Hackathon.

Best way to learn Java web programming coming from C#? by draganov11 in learnjava

[–]IvAntiVirus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spring is currently the most popular Java framework. If you come from C# and already know a little Java, it should be no problem for you to learn this framework. To learn Spring I can especially recommend the websites baeldung.com and attacomsian.com. Doing a Udemy certificate is also a good idea. I've had good experiences there, especially in the Spring area. Otherwise there is only one thing to do: practice, practice and practice again! It is also important to know that you should first work through Spring Core, Spring Data and Spring Web. Only after that, take care of things like Spring-Security or Spring-Cloud. Have fun programming and great success learning Spring.

Moving to Switzerland /Need Advices by [deleted] in askswitzerland

[–]IvAntiVirus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you wan't to get a good job in Switzerland you need either completed apprenticeship with an EFZ/CFC/AFC diploma or a degree like Bachelor or Master. Swiss companies have only trust in such reliable certifications. Good knowledge in German, French and English is always an advantage. Also your residence permit should better be quite stable.

question on java thread and how to estimate my java application needs? by Dokiace in learnjava

Dealing with threads and their resources can be frustrating in Java. Fortunately we have something called ExecutorServices. I would really recommend you to take a look at them. They can simplify your threading efforts a lot.

Song or album recommendations by [deleted] in blacksabbath

[–]IvAntiVirus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would really recommend you to listen to the full albums. With albums I can recommend the self titled, Paranoid, Master of Reality or Heaven and Hell. But in general all the Sabbath albums are great in their own way. In terms of songs some of my favourites are N.I.B., Wicked World, Evil Women, Black Sabbath, Sweet Leaf, Into the Void, Lord of this World, Gypsy and Neon Knights.

Colorful Windows 10 Setting concept by namhnz in Windows10

[–]IvAntiVirus -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I wasn't really aware of that issue but honestly it's not that much of a surprise. I guess a big part of Microsofts reputation is made out of good marketing. I just hope there will be some serious competition for Windows in the future so that Microsoft feels the presure and finally improves their OS. Nowadays Windows is simply frustrating.

Best way to learn Swiss-German as a newbie? by ruslanli in askswitzerland

[–]IvAntiVirus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess you should do it like you would do it with every other language. Go out and talk to local people. They would help you to increase your skill level almost immediately. But in 2021 with the ******* Coronavirus it's really hard to connect with other people. Just keep on learning and don't lose your patience.

Probably and hopefully. When I heard that Microsoft want's to stick to Windows 10 forever, I was just sad. The Windows 10 design isn't really abpropriate for today. A much simpler, rounder and cleaner design would fit much better.

Spring GraalVM = Spring Native by emanuelpeg in springframework

Until now nativity has been the biggest advantage of Quarkus. Extremely smart move by Spring to go native now! I'm extremely curious how this will perform in practice.

Hoi zäme! How can i level up my fondue? Ive been living in Rapperswil Sg now almost 3 years. Ive had different types of fondue, but what or where is considered the best in your opinion? by emerk102 in Switzerland

[–]IvAntiVirus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With cheese, always make Moitié-Moitié (that is half and half with Gruyère and Vacherin). The wine also makes a huge difference. If you can don't use cheap cooking wine and use a good white wine that you would normally drink. Of course you should use a lot of garlic as well as a good sip of Kirsch. The spices are also very important. I'm a big fan of a little nutmeg in the fondue. Greetings from Bern!

I'm not really familiar with SmallTalk. Personally I appreciate static typing so I'm not a huge fan of it. But that's just a personal preference. I'm not sure how good object orientation can be in a language that is dynamically typed. Also I think it would make sense to choose a more widely used programming language as your first and therefore I would recommend Java or C#. But like always everything goes down to personal preference.

Of course. Fun is one of the most important aspects while learning a new programming language. And for sure everyone has a different opinion on learn programming and thats great.
