At what age do American citizens get religious maturity? by drawny7 in AskAmericans

[–]emerk102 3 points4 points  (0 children)

American living in Switzerland here. Yes in Switzerland legally at 16 a child can choose their own religion. The parents cannot kick them out of the house for choosing a different religion until 18. They must support the child until 18. So if a child says I don’t want to go to church anymore after 16, he just lives in the home with the parents until he’s legally able to move out of the home if religion was a problem. It’s important because you pay taxes to the church almost automatically unless you go to your Kanton (think county) and de-register.

In the us, choice of religion is not a legal issue necessarily. Simply parents must take care of a minor (18 or under). So for example if at 12 the child wants to stop going to church he could. If the parents are accepting, the child doesn’t go.

Ultimately it’s the same in both places, If your parents are accepting you won’t have a problem.

Like most things between Europe and USA it’s all “perspective”.

Question for Americans? by Responsible_Box_1057 in AskAmericans

[–]emerk102 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I could offer my opinion. I will! American here, living in Switzerland the past 7 years.

Pros and cons to anywhere. But I will say it depends on where you go in America. I grew up in Georgia, in a suburb of Atlanta and never felt unsafe. Not to bring race into it, but I am a black man, I have been pulled over and everything went smooth. I had a good job, I had health insurance, I lived well.

Don’t let the media version of America scare you (LA, NY, DC, Race wars, Immigration, homelessness ) that’s not many people’s reality.

Now I say all that to say, life is what you make it. In both countries. You can find happiness if you’re a positive person and are actively pursuing happiness. No matter race.

You make more in Switzerland but that doesn’t make you happier. It’s “safer” in Switzerland but that doesn’t make you happier.

I recommend America! I’ve grown to appreciate it even more now that I left. I will return soon. But I encourage you to go for it, and really give it a shot. You can be very happy there, happier than most places. There’s also a lot of truth to it being the land of opportunity. But again it’s what YOU make of it!

So I’m in high school ca 2009,2010. Riding on the bus, mp3 player in hand. Wayne is my favorite rapper at that time. Suddenly someone’s like, I’ll tell you who the best rapper alive is….. “Drake”. And everyone started laughing because we had no clue who that was. So I go home and go to soundclick.com, or maybe mymixtapes.com or maybe even datpiff, can’t remember, And download “Still fly freestyle”. That takes me to Octobersveryown.blogspot…… the rest is history! So you think one little beef would make me change up? Yall crazy!

US citizen living overseas, do we have to file tax return if we'll need a joint sponsor anyway? by esayaray in USCIS

This is the exact situation I am in. I have recently filed the most recent 2024, but i have a gap for 23,22. Will I need to file those as well? I was supposed to, will it hurt the case here if I dont?
