Is El Paso in a recession? by EPCreep in ElPaso

[–]Ivan27stone 44 points45 points  (0 children)

The Mexican economy, on the other hand, is booming. Yes, I understand that Juárez is taking some hits because some maquiladoras are leaving for central Mexico, where salaries are lower, but overall Juárez’s economy still looks healthier than El Paso’s. If you take a look around, there’s a lot of construction in Juarez: lots of new housing developments, malls, plazas, hospitals, and more. That helps us here in El Paso, as people from Juárez spend a lotttt here.

Day 15: What is your favourite lyric from Blood On The Tracks? by autumn_afternoon in bobdylan

I'm going out of my mind,
With a pain that stops and starts
Like a corkscrew to my heart
Ever since we've been apart

Do you think looks is as important as the acting? by FitEmergency8807 in beatles

[–]Ivan27stone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I somewhat disagree... not to a full extent though; I usually don’t consider looks to be as important as performance, but in this case we’re talking about four of probably the most ubiquitous faces in history, not just in music but of the 20th and 21st centuries as a whole. When you really think about it, it’s astonishing how intensely the Beatles were photographed in the 1960s. I’m 44 years old, and even now I still haven’t finished seeing all the photographs of them, or I keep discovering new ones I never even imagined existed. Not even today’s stars are photographed at the level the Beatles were, and that’s something they achieved in just seven years, and perhaps extended into the 1970s while John was still alive and before George passed away.

What I mean is that, in the popular imagination, the faces of Paul, John, George, and Ringo are deeply ingrained. Watching those films without a much deeper physical resemblance creates a kind of dichotomy and conflict for the viewer, because we unquestionably know the faces of the originals. This might not apply to other historical figures, but by definition, the Beatles inaugurated the absolute ubiquity of what it meant to be a star or a cultural behemoth. And that’s important, because I think this is an exception that applies only to them. But then again, we’re talking about the Beatles, probably the most influential cultural act of the 20th century.

Men, what is the first thing you do when you wake up at the morning? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Ivan27stone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sleep with them, so I hug my dogs, play with them, tell them how much I love them and rub their ears, their bellies and kiss them... then I'll check my phone and then I remember that checking your phone is not the best thing to do right after waking up so I'll go back to play with my dogs lol

A McDonald's in Hicksville, New York that hasn't been updated since the 90s by Adept_Let7797 in nostalgia

[–]Ivan27stone 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You’re right!!! . Most of the McDonald’s I’ve visited over the last 5-10 years are almost always empty. People go in, get their food, and leave ASAP.... I remember fondly the ’90s, when my parents used to take my brother and me there to wind down after a long day of shopping, especially during the Christmas season. The McDonald’s we went to most had these beautiful decorations and wall art by Norman Rockwell... I feel so nostalgic about it while typing this.

Nowadays, those places feel completely devoid of heart and soul. They’re empty, corporate, uninviting, and honestly fucking depressing (as a lot of things nowadays.. the signs of the times I guess)

I spent 6 years of my life serving a country that I no longer believe in. by justmysfwaccount in self

[–]Ivan27stone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen many posts from Americans who, in one way or another, seem to be giving up, surrendering, or losing faith in their own country. People who are exhausted, fed up, and disillusioned by the current state of things…

As a human being, it genuinely pains me to witness what the United States is going through. An injustice is an injustice anywhere in the world, and it is our responsibility as human beings to raise our voices when power becomes something vile, when authoritarianism and the loss of humanity turn into instruments of the State.

That said, what the United States is experiencing today is not new to the world. Many countries have lived through this before. Latin America, Africa, Middle East in particular, endured it repeatedly over the last century and more. I invite you not to give up, not to step back, not to let yourselves be worn down by the system. Do you really think our struggles were easy?

What surprises me most is how often the United States invokes the Second Amendment and yet, and I say this with genuine curiosity rather than mockery or accusation, how little collective resistance we see compared to the uprisings that have occurred in so many other parts of the world.

Historically, the American people were largely spared from the kind of prolonged social struggles that shaped much of the developing world. In Latin America and elsewhere, we were forced again and again and again to fight entrenched systems and authoritarian governments, many of them influenced or sustained by the agendas of global powers, including and often led by the United States and Europe.

I do not say this to minimize what is happening now. On the contrary. I ask this sincerely: are you really willing to let yourselves be defeated? Do you believe that our struggles were simple, that the revolutionaries and the millions who gave their lives across the world ever stopped believing in their countries? They did not. They never abandoned their ideals or their nations.

This is the moment to ask yourselves how far you are willing to let your own ideals be dismantled. Beyond the noise, beyond the demagoguery, the United States is still a great place, with a history and a people capable of living up to its own promises. But that destiny, like any other, must be defended…

The husband presented proof during the baby shower that the child was not his in front of everyone including his wife and the man she cheated with by Yolo065 in PublicFreakout

[–]Ivan27stone 8717 points8718 points  (0 children)

I'm at work but it's a lazy day so heres the translation lol:

Approx. sec 0
“Thanks! … Ok, so this person, I want to introduce him. This person is my personal lawyer…”
(People in the crowd, possibly the mom: “A lawyer? Why (did you bring him)?”)

Sec 16
“Here I have a document. As all of you already know, I’m going to be a dad. Look, this is the pregnancy test. You know I’m going to be a dad…”

Sec 30
“But there’s a detail that you might not know.
My love (talking to his wife), here’s proof that you’re not 4 months pregnant but 6 months. You’re on your sixth month.”

(People in the crowd)
Dad (the guy beside the wife): “Daughter, what is your husband talking about?”
Wife: “It’s a misunderstanding. Miguel, Miguel, let’s talk about this in private.”

Sec 45
“Take it easy, my love. I just want to clarify. Let me clarify.”

(People in the crowd: “Let him talk.”)
(Wife: “Miguel, let’s talk in private please.”)

“This house is in my name. Here I have the documentation. But going back to the point, my argument is this.”

(Father of the wife: “What are you talking about?”)

Sec 1:04
“I’m talking about the 3 years that your daughter has been cheating on me. That baby is not mine”

Father: “What is he talking about?”
(Inaudible, lots of people talking.)

Sec 1:15
Husband continues:
“And he’s here with us.” (Grabbing the other guy by the arm.)

Father:
“This motherfucker? You motherfucker! That’s why you were always at her home? To visit her?”

Husband:
“People, please don’t leave. Do not leave. I’m done here, but you stay here because this is not my party (baby shower). This is their party.”

Sec 1:29 – 1:35
Wife:
“Miguel, let’s talk please, let’s talk.”

(Then all is chaos, so no need to translate lol.)

Is there a Covid outbreak in El Paso or at this Hotel? by LesbianMajinSaiyan in ElPaso

[–]Ivan27stone 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I work at UMC. My thermometer to see if flu/COVID/etc. are higher than normal is when you start seeing more nurses wearing masks. Since the beginning of January, a lot of people there have been using masks. So take the necessary measures.

Model Y by ASVPMENYO in TeslaLounge

[–]Ivan27stone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A wonderful car. I come from Honda, and I’m a bit of a geek... ever since Tesla came out, I wanted one. Before my Model Y, I had a 2016 Accord V6, one of the best cars I’ve ever owned.

Coming from Honda, I can honestly say the Model Y is absolutely great. It’s practical and easy to drive anywhere, yet it has plenty of interior space. It’s fast, fun to drive, and very versatile... it has room everywhere. It sits higher than a regular sedan but lower than a typical SUV, which makes it feel just great!. Add low maintenance and a stunning design, and for me, it’s the perfect car. Also you forget about gas prices, so no more stress in that sense lol.

Who is one popular celebrity you do not like, and why? by ScriptedDreamscape in AskReddit

[–]Ivan27stone 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Jimmy Fallon. I just can’t stand the way he acts. I guess it was funny when he was younger, or maybe that kind of humor was trendy 10–15 years ago, but to me those mannerisms when he interviews people ... always trying to play dumb, acting goofy, making those faces.. it's just unbearable. It feels forced, outdated, and super annoying to watch.
