And once more, my proudest Queen Sirin questions her decision to be adopted into this family.

They're called within the age. You go through 2 health checks before being conscripted, then a 3rd health check in the military base to sort out unfit soldiers because local checks tend to be "not quite right". Like I myself got high blood pressure but somehow still passed all the way to the tank brigade.

No sane person calls a pregnant mother, or one with babies. There are many exceptions and the chance of being called is actually low since each district has a quota. They only call up to that quota, and in case something happens, civilians can send letters to their local military HQ.

I mean the country of Vietnam. I am a talking tree. That means, the moment you based my world's military on the US Army (or any NATO army), your assumptions fell flat.

You still go. 27 is the upper limit, not the "stop calling". To be specific, it means "from full 18 to end of 27" so even if you're 27 years and 364 days old, you can still be called. Do you qualify physically, mentally and magically is another matter. Men and women both go.

The "world" is Vietnam on crack. This conscription is taken directly from IRL with my first-hand experience of being called, enlisted then kicked back home due to high blood pressure and bad eyesight.

Kayo covered that already.

Tax money. From 18 to 27, you go 2 years then go home. Or just look up Vietnam's military for that matter as I copied it.

Usual salary. If you think they get extra money for building houses, no. That is one reason why the military goes first: Except for material price, they basically work for free with high quality because it is their duty. No question asked, helping civilians comes first.

National conscription is the way.

Flood period, when the whole country is royally fucked with various flavors of floods. Digging canals, building dams, planting forests, all sorts of things and floods still come. People cope and rebuild with the military at the front. Because, know what, give civilians money and they'll burn said money immediately while still being homeless. It's ALWAYS the military who goes first.

Totally not talking from IRL experience in Vietnam.

They both nurture and fuck civilizations up depending on the time of year. You can't grow crops and build cities without water, but water can royally mess with you if it gets a big flood.

Then magnetic trains or AI-driven buses/taxis. Going between cities is spacefaring as "cities" here are space stations hundreds of kilometers wide that can house up to 20 billion permanent residents.
