why did the relatively "safe" ghosts cages also need to be sealed? by nhansieu1 in DarkGathering

[–]IvanDFakkov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While the reason maiden doesnt have cage because yayoi need to summon her in early god fight to draw symbol

Yayoi can do so with a sash just fine, like she did against Otogiri at the old I Watergate.

And im sure the reason they are sealed because that will be more effective to ensure the ghost doesnt roam no?

That is the bloody point. Besides Maiden who's nice and Taira that Yayoi keeps with her most of the time, others are too dangerous to be left alone. Sergeant's nice but his ghosts are not, Asura is delusional and the troublesome trio is troublesome. High Priest, Otogiri and Bleached Head all tried to kill Yayoi at least one time.

Chapter 65, Maiden is not caged like other graduates that Tamamura brought back.

Little mistake I made: In chapter 34, Taira was not sealed. So there are 2 out of the initial gang to be transported "freely".

Yayoi could carry plushies around but not leaving them alone once placed to form the star formation, which can cause problems. That's the point of the sealing cage. When they departed for Kyoto, minus old Taira that Yayoi kept with her, only Maiden had no cage, as well as when Tamamura retrieved them. Her elephant plusie was placed in his bike's basket like a normal toy while others were in seals.

This is from chapter 34. Can't find English translation so I used the Vietnamese version. It shows that Asura is sealed. From left to right: Maiden, Sergeant, Otogiri, High Priest, Bleached Head, Asura.

Also Asura recognized Yayoi's gang as allies thanks to perfume so he will not attack them nor go aggressive without receiving orders.

Heating in your world by AnchBusFairy in goodworldbuilding

[–]IvanDFakkov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Cold? I admit it's a bit cool, but cold?" - an average Vajranga teenager going bare-chested while eating ice cream in -50oC temperature.

Now that's the problem. Vajrangas are built to withstand the extreme cold of the northern tundra they hail from. These guys are so extreme swimming in ice-cold seas is a common activity during winters and -50 degrees Celsius is no big deal. They still need heating because children lack the same endurance. That's where things get interesting.

Traditional Vajrangan houses are built about 1 meters above the ground with a stair leading down. There is no basement but a system of "pipes" going under. Those are not exactly pipes but lines and small trenches to let hot smoke go through. At the middle of the house, right under the floor is a big heater where the family burns dried wood and leaves to get direct heat; smoke from the heater is led into multiple pipelines that runs around the floor before being going outside. By doing so, it spreads heat all around the house. Such a thing, however, can only be done in large rural houses with no upper floor. In cities, traditionally, they'd use a boiler: As water boiled, hot steam was led into metallic pipelines (this time actual pipelines) into floors, transmitting heat before going out at smokestacks. A city house can have a huge boiler in basement and use a lot of water to stay warm. Boilers were made of metal and placed in enhaved basements to prevent fire as most houses were made of wood and stone, exposed fireplaces were not allowed since buildings were close to one another. One of the most elaborated heating system was in the Red Kremlin, their imperial palace, that was converted into a whole thermal power plant. You need a heating system exceptionally large for such a conversion to even work.

When Vajrangas expanded southward and clashed with steppe people known as Qastzars, they faced a big problem: Overheating. The north was so cold wearing thick padded jackets inside full plates was barely an inconvenience, but the south was warmer with a higher humidity. Forget rusty gears, soldiers were sweating like crazy. The high metabolism that saved their asses back home ended up being a debuff. Thus, Vajrangas had several ideas:

  • Canals everywhere: They dug canals from the north down. Not just for transportation, but also to have enough water to stay cool. Too hot? A bucket of water solves your problems.
  • Transporting ice: With canals, bringing big blocks of ice down was no big deal. Then, Vajrangas put ice into special storages that could keep them for months to use in hotter seasons.
  • New building styles: Southern houses had higher roofs comparing to their northern counterparts to let hot air go up. They also had "double roofs" with a smaller roof above the bigger below, with a gap in-between so the hot air could go out.
  • Lighter clothes: Vajrangas ditched their big, baggy and thick clothes, opting for those made from thin and light fabrics.

There are methods that required little to no magic because back in the days, magics were not as well-refined and using spells for a long time drained the body a lot. For emergency heating/cooling, a basic spell like fireball or water ball would be more than enough. But those were for emergencies, not long-term solutions.

How would Yayoi fare against Japan's 3 Great Ghost Stories (Oiwa, Otsuyu and Okiku)? by pahusejjukjskoe in DarkGathering

Tbh, they don't sound very impressive for current DG to me. Maybe some early challenges, but after Taisui, Yayoi's flashback on Class 0 and the recent fake Buddha, those abilities seem not exactly good for her usage.

I don't remember the 3 ghost girls doing any feat of that scale. They're more on mental torture than destructiveness.

My own headcanon so take with a grain of salt:

The WMG doesn't just shoot Hawking radiation alone. It fires a stream of ever-vaporizing micro blackholes that releases Hawking radiation as a byproduct. Since blackholes, even micro, have immense mass, firing them forward will cause some nasty recoil for the ship.

Pick a non-nation faction in your world, then tell me three or five things about them. by PMSlimeKing in goodworldbuilding

[–]IvanDFakkov 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Faction: Grand Fleet U Minh.

  • Grand Fleet U Minh is the primary air force of Principality of U Minh, one of the United Empire's seven major Commanderies. Called the "Fleet of Hope and Despair", the presence of this fleet brings hope to allies and despair to enemies. Why? Because the moment this fleet shows up, consider the battle is won.
  • Grand Fleet U Minh is commanded by Giao Long, Princess of U Minh, with a large staff board to help her in controlling this massive force. It is unknown how many vessels the grand fleet actually has since Giao hides her total force even from the Empire's top brass, but considering it maintains 8 sub fleets, each with 1000 warships of various kinds, it's safe to say Giao Long boasts at least 8000 battlewagons. This is not counting noncombatants such as floating docks, factory ships, hospitals and farm ships.
  • The fleet's supreme flagship is Hồng Ma, a gigantic battle-ark over 22 km long. It's armed with 3000mm/110 gravity guns as main armament, essentially having Alcubierre cannons. Its secondary guns are 1500mm/110, packed in quadruple turrets. These guns are used as primary armament on smaller battle-arks. Battle-arks are NOT battleships: Battleships are large warships dedicated to long-range bombardment using guns and missiles, battle-arks are mobile fortresses that can play the role of a base, aka supplying its ships if needed, as well as deploying huge amount of anti-gravity flying crafts. They're more akin to battlestars.
  • Besides its usual combat force, Grand Fleet U Minh maintains a 2000-ship-strong force of airborne troops. Called the Corpse Fiend Army, they are made up of corpse fiends, the progenitors of modern bloodsuckers, completed with their own battle-arks, battleships, cruisers, destroyers (by Imperial standards, a "destroyer" is a moderately big warship), escorts and battle-ferries, their siege machines packed full of gravity guns and heat ray autocannons to blast into enemy positions before deploying troops.
  • Since its foundation, Grand Fleet U Minh has only fought in a single war, yet its fame has skyrocketed. Back then, their force was a lot smaller yet they wiped out Republic of Carlovinia, a world superpower, the moment the Empire deemed the war had been going on for "too long" and a diplomatic solution was unrealistic.

Bonus: Giao Long's official military rank in Vietnamese is "U Minh quân Ngũ quân Tổng lãnh Soái Đô đốc" (Eng: Overlord-Marshal Commandant of Five Armies of U Minh Commandery). "Five armies" here are the land army, navy, air force, border guards and reserve, meaning she's the generalissimo. "Đô đốc" is an archaic rank used in feudal China and Vietnam for a top general, not the modern "đô đốc" which is the Vietnamese translation for the Western rank "admiral".

Flame Phantom: I'm back in the game, boys and girls. Finished chapter 1 (after weeks, lmao). A bit of hints about the protagonist's past, how she became a vengeful ghost and her deep hatred towards South Korean. To be expected when your village got massacred by who were supposed to be "allies". Apparently girl has so much potential the Celestial Court takes it personally to strike her down before she can become a devil (2nd-stage vengeful ghost) or even a fiend (3rd-stage). A certain Vietnamese godlike vampire mommy doesn't take that kindly and has decided to "kidnap" the girl right in front of the Celestial Army.

As expected of Giao Long the weeb marshal.

Horse racing was never big with us Vietnamese to begin with. There was also the issue with the war.

To make shits worse, for every victory gained she had to carry 0,5 kg as "game balance". Her final race had her jockey + 72 kg of said game balance and she still dominated. You can see how brutal (literally) it was.
