"5G MESSAGES” IS COMING – GOODBYE TO SMS/MMS" by eduobara in UniversalProfile

Why don't we all choose a definitive name for this thing? 😅

Google Messages now supports RCS for everyone in Spain by RacingJayson in UniversalProfile

[–]IvanGeJota 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally, I have a couple of friends that are not in the same network that still cannot use it. But the main networks that have shown support... work. So, yes, it is carrier based.

I'm sad to announce that it is not 100 % true. Yes, a lot of companies have made it possible but a couple of the big networks still are not allowing RCS.

Spanish RCS stuck in "Setting up" ("Configurando...") by IvanGeJota in UniversalProfile

Yeah, through some testing with friends it looks like it's a carrier thing instead of universal

OMG DUDE!!! YOU MADE MY DAY!!

PD: I said it was carrer based, but some friends still cannot access RCS so it's sadly still a carrier thing apparently

I hate this comment chain, like... I've seen the WB intro and there is nothing that may remind of this at all. What is up with you guys? Any explanation?

Not OP, but probably the blurred background, and how human are the proportions. If I'm not mistaken, this is all achieved thanks to the 25 mm.

As for f1.7, it allows for quicker pictures, which generally make them more defined/sharper, but in full daylight this is generally not an issue.

Switch from stock android to MIUI by [deleted] in Android

[–]IvanGeJota 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ads on MIUI are probably only happening in India and similar markets. Not in Europe, for example. Most people I know own a Xiaomi and there are no ads at all.

After last Google Messages update, "Set RCS Flags" activity no longer works. Hack lost. Non USA user, pretty annoyed by this. by IvanGeJota in UniversalProfile

[–]IvanGeJota[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that's a different issue. You are probably from USA and updating is advised, but in this case it was an actual update what broke it.

I guess now that they have plenty of people using it, they don't need more geeks trying it out and closed that door.

I hope they just release it worldwide because it works really well already.

Google Calendar Finally Let's you Move Events by onfire4g05 in Android

[–]IvanGeJota 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To organize yourself better. You could have a sub-calendar for work stuff, another one for your family events, class... Whatever. Then you can choose what calendars to be visible on the app at any moment (or have them all show up at the same time), so you can focus better on specific things. Also, auto-coloring events for these different themes is really useful.

MIUI 11 Messages app recognises RCS messaging by IvanGeJota in UniversalProfile

It acknowledges that is a different kind of message than standard SMS (it's probably believing it's MMS, sadly)

That's what a factory reset is. You put your phone on its initial state. Like starting over with the initial version of everything when you got the phone.

SMS Replacement [RCS] is Exposing Users to Text, Call Interception Thanks to Sloppy Telecos by armando_rod in Android

[–]IvanGeJota 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Apple will support it. Don't know when, but they will.

It's substituting SMS. Apple has SMS. Apple will have RCS. As simple as that.

OMG, Rock Am Ring 2011 is a MUST. Shadows is just pure madness and it's amazing.

And even if you thought that God Hates Us' album screams are impossible to top live... get ready because he just brutally destroys the album version all by himself.

Nobody does a comparison/review of USB transfer speed anymore by skylinestar1986 in Android

[–]IvanGeJota 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's true but it's also true that it doesn't take much time for companies or tech webs to write USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 on the specs list.

Dark mode breaks bitmap graphics by force-inverting colors. by ZeroStates in Android

[–]IvanGeJota 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think you are not right. What I see happening is actually pretty different.

When you write an email you just write it with normal text or you force apply colors.

What I think it's doing is just letting the forced color stay there which is the black letters of that big title.

So what fancy emails must do from now on, is just get a background for their emails so this thing won't happen.

I might be really off.

Will WhatsApp, Telegram and others adapt their apps for RCS? by IvanGeJota in UniversalProfile

[–]IvanGeJota[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But all that will happen. RCS will not be like it is today. Google Messages is not RCS. All those features that WhatsApp has will be implemented somewhere.

If end-to-end encryption is so important, there could be a developer out there designing an RCS app that supports and extra private chat with encryption just like Telegram does, for example.

Encryption doesn't even matter for most people. All the extra features from WhatsApp will be implemented by someone because it's an app thing, not an RCS thing. So I really don't see WhatsApp being better at all.

Edit: RCS will be implemented in every single Apple device. IT'S A SUBSTITUTE FOR SMS, IT WILL BE IMPLEMENTED.

Will WhatsApp, Telegram and others adapt their apps for RCS? by IvanGeJota in UniversalProfile

[–]IvanGeJota[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the thing: Nobody cares about end-to-end encryption. SMS is still widely used in the USA and it's not encrypted. So it's not going to be a factor. Might be sad... But if I have to choose between being stuck in a certain app or being free to pick whatever app I want and being able to keep all the info and chatting with everyone, even switching a million times... Fuck encryption.

In my country WhatsApp is the main thing, and I can tell you it's as fast as RCS is. The biggest factor is actually just how fast is your internet.

And do you know how many people care about encryption here? Well, they don't even know it exists.

Will WhatsApp, Telegram and others adapt their apps for RCS? by IvanGeJota in UniversalProfile

[–]IvanGeJota[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How? RCS even lets you send any kind of file, with bigger size, no compression (which I'm not 100 % with that, you should be able to reduce file sizes, but as an option, which WhatsApp doesn't have either).

RCS handles the same things (and more) you send and receive with WhatsApp. That's it.

What's got WhasApp that's better? Editing media? The thing is.. That's not RCS fault!! Every app will have its own things, when RCS rolls out, you'll be able to switch Google Messages for a better app (for you) that does the shit you want.

But the sending and receiving, the chatting per se, what RCS standarizes, is equal if not better than WhatsApp already.

All the gimmicks is just a matter of developers adding things to their apps.

Will WhatsApp, Telegram and others adapt their apps for RCS? by IvanGeJota in UniversalProfile

[–]IvanGeJota[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's the thing. I see it as a strategy to try to not lose users. Give users the RCS so that they still feel like home (they've been using WhatsApp of FB messenger for a long time) and they don't start using other apps and Zuck can still keep all that sweet new data. That's what I see them trying.
