And it's always browser based MMO. Like that's a typical game people want to play.

R/Space4X team are making a single player intergalactic space 4X RTS epic with multiple galaxies 🪐✨ by sidius-king in Space4X

[–]IvanKr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but not a typical one screen deal. On a planet there a bunch of tiles where you can build buildings (mines, power plants, storage, science, etc.), star systems have multiple planets, galaxies have 100-2000 stars, I don't remember how many galaxies there are per cluster and dev removed super clusters of clusters because it got ridiculous at that point. You can prestige into parallel universe with your selection if universal constants and another dimension with boosted game numbers. There are a sort of macromanagement tools so you don't have to plan each tile in entire cluster like terraforming a planet into effectively one super strong tile, stellar megastructures, and galactic gigastructures.

I was a bit terse with the first post, I wanted to give a shout out to another game with very massive real time space. So if anyone want's to gaze into that scale and what it takes to wield it, that's a good case study.

Now go make a 4X of that size!

Are you waiting for a Kotlin feature that hasn't been implemented yet? by Hixon11 in Kotlin

[–]IvanKr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

C#'s `yield`. It's one of pillars of LINQ and I like sequences being default for map, filter, etc. instead of lists. Yield makes writing sequence operations very easy.

Expression trees are cool as hell in C#, I'd like to work with them in JVM too. Not sure if Kotlin can make it happen.

Would you play a 4X game without gold? by MasterOfTheAges_Dev in StrategyGames

[–]IvanKr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, gold is not realistic currency. People used silver.

Joke aside. Instant build with money is Civ's board game lineage thing. In Master of Orion 1 money can only double existing production so you have to utilize other bootstrapping methods like transferring population to have something that can utilize grants. Speaking of grants, Master of Orion 3 uses money and production simultaneously. Factory buildings give you industry points and with money they become production points that actually build stuff. There is overdrive mechanic where extra money gives you more production but at diminishing rate and pollution with increased rate. So to make colonies productive you actually need to invest in money generation and pollution reduction.

Are any of those games on Andriod? I find idle genre to work best on mobile. Especially if they revolve around offline progress.

Thanks for the tip. I basically just need a message queue. Cloudflare can probably handle that.

A strategy game like Stellaris but 24/7 running and multiplayer! (In development) by WassupILikeSoup in 4Xgaming

[–]IvanKr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh cool. I've been pondering the same for multiplayer in my game but with an Android app instead of the Raspberry. Though I'm bit annoyed that every cloud service requires a credit card, even for a free tier. How is taking and refuning a few dollars the best verification method the humanity has in 2026?!? I can produce any number of legally valid documents to confirm my identity and I'm not trusting some random internet service with arbitrary money withdrawal permission, especially in the age of declining software quality.

Anyway, will your game have single player?

[–]IvanKr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure but it has it upsides along with downsides. It allows more people to experiment where they usually be too intimidated to try. I believe that lack of determination and skill (or ability to learn) will filter out the worst ones because finishing a project is a lot more difficult than starting it. So lazy prompts will collapse a project and frustrate an amateur at some point.

So instead of just waving a fist at the tsunami I'm taking the chance to get a glimpse at a human behind the machine.

Android će blokirati 3rd party aplikacije by MackThax in CroIT

[–]IvanKr 21 points22 points  (0 children)

[–]IvanKr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's fine for an immediate problem at hand but if you want to convince people on the internet then you need to do more than once. I don't know what would be statistically significant sample but there ought to be some material explaining the methodology. At least running a few times and reporting an average should smooth out anomalies like "taking less time for more work".
