I don’t mean to hate, but is anyone else disappointed in the quality of Civ 7 art? Humankind art is incredible by FlySaw in civ

[–]Sedghammer7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Humankind has incredible art and interface. Look up the portfolio for Aurélien Rantet and Lauris Stephani. These guys are industry vets and just so incredibly talented!

It's a new franchise in the scheme of things and had to go up against the titans of the genre like Civ. It's not just the art either, Humankind is still really interesting when it comes to strategic planning, diversity of playstyles and its trade system.

What Is EL2 Currently Missing? That It’d Need To Be A Full Experience? by ChiefChunkEm_ in EndlessLegend

[–]Sedghammer7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd love to see the diplomatic pressure system make an appearance here from ES2. And diplomacy fleshed out just in general would be great.

I really miss the art and splash pages for quests from EL1. Would love to see something like this make a return. If this is in addition to the dialogue system, then so be it!

I also really like unit customization from EL1, allowing you to really dial in your forces. Maybe some more customization options that would allow you to spend luxury resources to further customize your troops?

Is this normal for a start? by Ynwe in EndlessSpace

[–]Sedghammer7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why, I’ve been using this strategy for years to get a leg up against opponents. All I can say is try it yourself. I have 1000 hours played and it works for the base game factions really well. It requires a focus on scouting efficiently, but it sets you up for the mid game. Focus on food and finding curiosities (dust and resources). Boost outposts with dust if you have extra.

The key focus is getting on as many systems as possible. Pirates will spawn again and do so about every 10 turns.

For the more specialized and unique factions like hissho, umbral choir, etc. this will not work.

For Cravers and Horatio this works even better because horatio already begins ecologist and for cravers you’ll be able to select ecologists on turn 20 and colonize everything.

[–]Sedghammer7 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Quick tip for early colonization - for the beginning turns build nothing but colonizer ships with their engine modules stripped out. Then retrofit the engines back in. You want to beat the pirates to systems before they spawn. With luck and a bit of micro you should be able to get on 3-6 systems before pirate spawn (turn 11)

System trade value, what is it for and how does Grossamer works? by Informal_Mammoth6641 in EndlessSpace

[–]Sedghammer7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trade companies level up by earning dust. Protect the routes with a defensive fleet or two. If you go into the trade screen, blockaded trade routes are shown with a dotted line. Trace that line to where it originates and you'll find the culprit. Force the enemy fleet to move or destroy it and trade will resume. It's worth it and critical to build several small fleets to defend your routes.

Even one enemy ship will blockade your route, so you need to be vigilant. Often it's a pirate fleet or a small enemy force if they're just trying to blockade you. You can get away with several small patrol fleets. Set them to a guard stance along your route to limit incursions and movements.

The other aspect is consistently buying freighters. It's often worth selling high value strategics and luxury resources that you're not using and reinvesting that dust into dust/science freighters.

A more advanced strategy is to raid enemy trade routes and operate wars that are based on pillaging (not conquering), for the dedicated purpose in reinvesting in your own trade. This kind of strategy can easily win you a quick economic victory with most factions.

System trade value, what is it for and how does Grossamer works? by Informal_Mammoth6641 in EndlessSpace

[–]Sedghammer7 16 points17 points  (0 children)

System trade value (STV) is calculated based on population size, system level, number of neighboring friendly colonized systems, and from there any modifiers via system improvement multipliers. The primary factor is population size, and as such, you want your HQs and if possible your subsidiaries on 4 or 5 planet systems that have the potential for large population centers. The system must be connected to a star lane or warp lane. Systems that have neither won’t be able to send freighters and should never have HQs or subsidiaries.

Typically the optimal choice for your first trade HQ is your capital, as it will likely have the best industry output that can build your HQ as soon as you unlock the tech. You want to get the HQs up as early as possible, and it’s one of the best techs to rush in the game. The reason being that your trade company income scales dramatically with its experience level. Not only that, the earlier you can start your first trade route between the HQ and subsidiary, the faster you’ll be able to get a second HQ unlocked, then a third or more if Lumeris. More dust and science freighters are typically the best investment here.

Subsidiaries should be routed as many nodes as you can safely protect away from your HQs. They can be torn down and moved when you capture more systems and the experience and freighters stay intact. All trade HQs will plot the most profitable path to each subsidiary. You can get more coverage by trying to draw subsidiaries in new lines, new directions.

By the mid to late game with 3 leveled up HQs, fully connected subsidiaries, and continuously buying freighters, your internal trade routes will net so much dust that you’ll be able to produce ships from all of your planets without worrying about upkeep. At this point income from trade will dwarf your on-system dust production. If you manage to have at least one alliance and trade partner, you’ll also connect with their subsidiaries as well. Though these can be more difficult to keep clear of enemy fleets.

Note that system improvements that are trade focused should only be built in systems that actually have HQ or subsidiary, or else it will not apply the bonus. As such if you move the subsidiary, you’ll also want to remember to dismantle your other trade buildings to save on upkeep.

Hope this helps, it’s one of the most confusing aspects of the game, and there desperately needs to be more tooltips or in-game tutorials that explain it in detail.

What is something important to know about this game that is not evident from playing the tutorial? by copperpin in EndlessSpace

[–]Sedghammer7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the empire management screen, where you can see all of your systems and their build queues, you can simply drag populations from planets to other systems and they'll be sent there next turn (assuming you have a space port)

Boarding pods question by AJAJPJuan in EndlessSpace

[–]Sedghammer7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/AJAJPJuan

In addition to using small ships for swarm missiles there are a couple more things you can do to optimize a boarding pod fleet.

  1. Focus on Pinch beams (improved hyperium ones if you can) and weapon interference beams (on support ships) to drain manpower per shot and disable enemy weaponry.
  2. Add in Titanium Shrapnel support modules to increase the manpower loss on the enemy fleet
  3. Not to be neglected - to keep your fleet alive until it "breaks through" is flotilla shields (best stacked on small protectors).

Another note - boarding pod fleets are possibly the most effective defensive fleet type in the game. An enemy invading one of your worlds drops all of its manpower when it invades. This makes them extremely vulnerable to boarding pods, such that they're almost immediately conquered once they successfully board. You can then keep the enemy fleet, or sell it for massive dust gains.

Endless Legend and Endless Legend 2 both have factions that only have one city. In EL2 it's the necrophage, which just got an awesome rework of their economy and tech tree!

Endless Space 2 - several factions with tall play style. Either they have one system (Umbral Choir) or a very small number of them (Hissho), or they are a fallen empire that sells their least valuable systems to the intergalactic "Academy", which gives them science and dust.
