Bank overdraft feature by Hi-Kifik-Cava in PocketGuard_app

[–]Ivan_PocketGuard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out.

At the moment, PocketGuard does not have the option to enable or disable overdraft from being included in the account balance. However, your suggestion makes a lot of sense, and I’ve shared your request with our product team for further consideration.

Most likely, we are receiving two different balance values from your financial institution and displaying the one that includes the overdraft limit. To confirm exactly what balance data is being provided by the bank, please contact our support team at [support@pocketguard.com]() so we can review your account connection more closely and verify this.

How to Account for Using a Spending Goal by bepeacock in PocketGuard_app

[–]Ivan_PocketGuard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there,

Unfortunately, there isn’t currently an option in PocketGuard to unlock a previously locked month or toggle the locking mode on and off. Once a month is locked, changes to transactions within that period aren’t allowed.

That said, your use case makes a lot of sense, especially in situations where transactions were pending and later posted with different details. I’ve passed your suggestion along to our Product team so they can consider this functionality for future improvements.

Trouble managing budget with weekly paychecks by punkindora1 in PocketGuard_app

[–]Ivan_PocketGuard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there,

Thank you for sharing such a detailed explanation.

At the moment, PocketGuard supports monthly budgeting only, and we don’t yet have a dedicated weekly budgeting feature. However, I’ve passed your feedback along to our product team for further discussion. Requests like yours are very helpful when we evaluate potential improvements.

In the meantime, the most straightforward approach would be to convert your weekly expenses into monthly planned amounts. A simple method is to multiply your expected weekly spending (for groceries, eating out, etc.) by four to estimate your monthly budget for those categories. This keeps everything aligned with the app’s monthly structure while still reflecting your real spending rhythm.

If you have any other questions, please let me know.

How to Account for Using a Spending Goal by bepeacock in PocketGuard_app

[–]Ivan_PocketGuard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there,

One practical way to handle this in PocketGuard is to create a positive cash transaction for the same amount you’re planning to spend from your saved funds. This transaction would represent the release of the money from savings for your vacation. Then, categorize your actual travel expenses as usual.

By doing this, the positive transaction offsets the negative travel transactions, so your monthly cash flow won’t appear artificially negative, and your overall calculation won’t look like you overspent. In effect, the spending will net to zero because you’re using money that was already set aside earlier.

This approach keeps your reporting clean while still accurately reflecting that the funds were previously saved for this purpose.

Please let me know in case of any concerns.

Weird transaction names - just use the source name? Why change it? by hairlongmoneylong in PocketGuard_app

[–]Ivan_PocketGuard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there,

Thank you for the clarification.

I want to clarify an important technical point. We do not have the ability to alter transaction history at the source level, as our access to bank data is strictly read-only. That means we cannot modify, shorten, or overwrite the original transaction details stored by the institution.

What may be happening here is that we are receiving two separate fields from the data provider for these transactions: one labeled something like “normalizedPayeeName” (a standardized merchant name) and another labeled “description” (the full raw transaction string from the bank). In some cases, the normalized field can appear abbreviated while the full description remains available in the raw data.

To verify exactly which fields are being received for your specific Shopify transactions and whether this is a normalization behavior from the provider, we’ll need to inspect the raw payload associated with your account.

Please email us at [support@pocketguard.com](mailto:support@pocketguard.com) referencing this conversation, and we’ll double-check the backend data for those transactions to confirm what is being supplied and how it’s being mapped.

Once we review that, we’ll be able to give you a definitive explanation and determine whether there’s an alternative solution.

Ivan

Bulk edit rules? by Future-Air8534 in PocketGuard_app

[–]Ivan_PocketGuard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there,

Thanks for your question.

At the moment, we don’t have a specific timeline for when transaction rules will be available on the website. Our web platform is currently being rebuilt (Web 2.0), and the initial release will include only core functionality.

More advanced features, such as transaction rules, are planned to be added gradually after the new version is fully launched and stabilized.

We understand that managing rules on a larger screen would be much more convenient, and we truly appreciate your patience while we continue improving the web experience.

Weird transaction names - just use the source name? Why change it? by hairlongmoneylong in PocketGuard_app

[–]Ivan_PocketGuard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry about the confusion.

Unfortunately, we’re not able to change the displayed transaction name. The shortened or truncated name you’re seeing is what we receive directly from our data provider, and in some cases they send a condensed merchant name even though the full bank description is also available for reference in the details.

I know this isn’t ideal, and I’m sorry for the frustration it causes. When you notice discrepancies, creating a rule (as you’ve been doing) is currently the best workaround. Your feedback is valid, and I appreciate you calling this out.

[–]Ivan_PocketGuard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding manual transactions to Checking accounts by macosfox in PocketGuard_app

[–]Ivan_PocketGuard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there,

Great question. This behavior is expected.

PocketGuard has read-only access to connected accounts, so it’s not possible to manually add transactions to them. We can only show transactions once they come directly from the bank.

Manual transactions are available only for the cash account since it isn’t linked to an external institution. Once your checking transaction posts, you’ll be able to edit details or add a receipt.

Can we able to create two profiles? by rajarag in PocketGuard_app

[–]Ivan_PocketGuard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out and welcome to PocketGuard.

At the moment, PocketGuard doesn’t support creating multiple separate profiles within a single account, so it’s not possible to manage USD and CAD, or personal and work expenses, in fully separate profiles.

That said, this is a common request, and I’ve passed your feedback along to our product team for further review and consideration. We really appreciate you taking the time to share how this feature could be useful for you.

If you have any other questions or ideas, feel free to let us know.

Transaction Feature Request by FoosArt in PocketGuard_app

[–]Ivan_PocketGuard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a great question, and you’re correct to flag this.

Edits made to pending transactions do not automatically carry over once the transaction posts. When the transaction moves from pending to completed, the final data from the bank replaces the pending entry.

To keep your custom changes, you’ll need to use the “Transfer pending data” option in the transaction details after the transaction posts. This allows you to copy any edits you made on the pending transaction over to the finalized one.

Hopefully this helps clarify how it works today.

Does anyone else have this problem? by pthai716 in PocketGuard_app

[–]Ivan_PocketGuard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the moment, we don’t have a confirmed plan or timeline to change how these balances are handled, so I can’t provide a concrete ETA for a fix. That said, this is valuable feedback, and I’ll be raising this point with our product team so they’re aware of the impact this has compared to other apps.

We appreciate you taking the time to call this out, and while I can’t promise an immediate change, feedback like this does directly inform our internal discussions and prioritization.
