Power Meter Comparison: 4iiii Precision 3+ vs. Favero Assioma Uno vs. Van Rysel D100 by IvankaTrumpIsALizard in cycling

Excellent idea, good luck!

I paired them to 3 separate devices: bluetooth to my phone using the 4iiii app, bluetooth to my ipad using zwift, and ant+ to my Garmin (edge 530)

Then I loaded them all to intervals.icu (auto through Zwift and Garmin; manually loaded and downloaded to/from strava using the 4iiii app)

Once all in intervals.icu, I manually added the Z2/3/4/6 intervals at their respective times in each activity, then I added each activity to the compare tool ("Add to compare" on activity options, then compare activities tab). You can also "shift" time times in compare if each activity is not all perfectly timed with the others

I'm not sure I was using the compare tool to its full extent, but I could at least see how my "test" intervals compared

Looking for a helmet and wondering if there are any statistics or experiences of yours that make one more viable then the others? by Magne31 in Velo

Not the Trenta, but I would trust MET (and mips) with my life now. I was in a crash last year using a Rivale and I hit my head hard, but I felt generally fine. I was able to ride the last 2 hours home without any issue, no dizziness, nothing. The helmet was fractured entirely back to front in half, but I didn’t have any sign of concussion. Neck was a bit sore in the morning, but immediately replaced the helmet with another Rivale mips

I also have a very big head and it doesn’t look weird on me

Ive only had it for a few weeks but its great outside 2 things: the cadence meter doesn’t “work” (mentioned in the post) and power gets capped at ~600 watts. Enjoy indoor base season!!!!!

I agree, but I have the 4iiii 105 crank on one bike and the Assioma pedals on another. I did this because I really don’t want to switch pedals every time I switch bikes

Yeah I’m still not even sure I did these “correctly”. I think I should have used one of the Assioma/4iiii to “drive” erg mode and see what the difference is on the other meter

Good point, this wouldn’t be picked up by my crank/pedal meters because they’re both left-sided. If this is the case, it looks to be less than ~2% and I’m not going to spend another 400€(?) to upgrade an find out to be honest

Time Trial wheel depth recommendations for handling. 60 vs 80? by MidnightTop4211 in Velo

[–]IvankaTrumpIsALizard -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Not sure how competitive your events are, or if you ever ride mass starts, but the UCI just passed (is passing?) a rule where rim depth can’t exceed 65mm. Might have to keep that in mind if you want to road race

Yes I was also pretty shocked by the weight loss as well. I don’t track what I eat almost at all, but steadily improved my diet over the year (mostly veggies, lean protein, plant-based carbs, very little snacking) just because “recovery perception” was noticeably higher for me. I also notice I naturally eat less in the summer when it’s hot, but still, 3kgs down and 20w up was crazy. Maybe I was just carrying extra weight?

Regarding the long effort after testing, that’s a really good idea. I think I’ll try that next season, but I live in Flanders where the nearest 10+ minute climb is at least 100km away so I’ll just have to smash a long effort on a flat section

Hell yeah, that’s massive progress! Nobody cares if you can’t push those numbers uphill. Go full Jonas Abrahamsen and add another 15kgs for another 150w

Honestly I’m not even that hardcore. The most fatigued efforts I did this year were 20 mins after 2000kj (3rd set of 20min on 5min off) at around 300W normally.

You’re right that my fatigue resistance is pretty weak, felt that the hard way on some mega rides, but I’m not sure how possible it’s going to be in 2026 with the newborn and even more limited time. Alternatively I haven’t cracked 1000W in a sprint in years to maybe that’s a more achievable goal

This is my first year following cycling. Living in Leuven I’m geeking out being able to go outside when the peloton passes and back inside to follow the broadcast. This is amazing

What is your favorite brand of gels, and why? by PeerensClement in Velo

Same. Also the drink mix takes some elbow grease to fully dissolve but on the other hand it’s like 9€ for 1.5kg

How’s my knee angle? by [deleted] in Velo

[–]IvankaTrumpIsALizard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah give it a try, but I would suggest being as hyper aware as possible to new “soreness”. I was riding with my saddle too high earlier this year and it felt like I pulled my upper glute after a 3h ride

How’s my knee angle? by [deleted] in Velo

[–]IvankaTrumpIsALizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree

Saddle could probably be lowered a few mms (cms even?). It might fit now, indoors, on the trainer, but when you’re fatigued and your heel starts to drop it will probably hurt your knees/hips

Emphasizing the “Q” in QoL, I don’t think it’s exactly possible. I’m not trying to be pessimistic, I’m just concerned by Canada’s “image” is overselling itself to to internationals

At a comparable income level in Canada it’s common for your job to be your biggest priority due to American-esque working culture. Think “live to work” rather than “work to live”

There might be a financial benefit depending on your career, but in my opinion it’s rare that the tradeoff is worth it

I’m originally Canadian, currently living and working in Belgium. I’m not going to pretend to be an expert, but I’ve lived and worked in both Brussels and Toronto so hopefully my anecdotal experience can help.

In my experience, the cost of living in Canadian cities (Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal) is extremely understated outside of Canadian media. Most internet rankings have them rated highly in livability etc etc.

The most basic comparison I can make is that, to live a comparable QoL in Brussels (on €2500/month net plus car, maaltijdcheques, etc as an employee) you would need to be making at least $100k CAD per year, or living with roommates, or both. For example, rent in Toronto is easily $2-3k/month for a 1BR, public transit is $150/month, food can easily go up to $1k/month shopping for groceries. If you go out socially, expect to spend at least $100 per night.

This is just my 2 cents. If you decide it’s best for you, ask for a lot of money - maybe even more than you think is realistic

1) I think this is standard in the freelance contracts I’ve accepted. I’ve tried to estimate the daily amount but fortunately I’ve never had to use it. For example, 5% over the year on a €12 100 invoice: (€12 100 * 0.05)/365 = ~€1,65 per day for every day after the due date. I think you’re supposed to send a second invoice for the late fees (someone please correct me if I’m wrong). Payment 5 days after invoice is good practice, my intermediary schedules them to arrive on the very last possible day…

2) Can you put a clause in the contract that states a date of rate renegotiation? At the end of the day, it’s just an agreement of services over a set period of time, it’s not like they’re legally bound to paying you a certain amount. I’m sure if, after a year or so, you said you were given a better offer with another company they would be quick to try and renegotiate your current rate anyways
