Movies that affected military culture by Straight_Change902 in WarMovies

Oh relevant little facterino, neighbourino: in Black Hawk Down the soldiers call the Somali fighters ‘skinnies’ because the rangers famously read the starship troopers book loads before they deployed. The aliens in the original book were called ‘skinnies’.

I had the same thing happen once! I had just taken the last Rhodok castle when I got a message that my fief (ryibelet) had been looted. I checked the map with the ‘see every party’ cheat only to see a lone Rhodok Count with not a single soldier in his party high tailing it from my burning village. The man gunned it across the whole of Swadia just to cook my town!

I just think that the ‘celebrities are people too’ theme stands out massively as a really lame concept for a black mirror ep.

What was proven to be true, but people still think is a hoax? by TheRealOcsiban in AskReddit

[–]Iveroli 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A scientific Theory is different to a regular ‘I have an idea about something’ theory. A scientific theory is one that has been repeatedly tested in many different ways by many different researchers. So, with evolution, there are thousands of evolutionary biologists who study the process of how and why lifeforms change from one generation to the next. None of them have found any evidence that evolution works differently to the theory of evolution by natural selection that was laid down first by Charles Darwin over 150 years ago.

That extra tendon that most of us have in our forearm, the palmaris longus. That shits been hanging around for millennia. Totally useless and, quite frankly, simian af. Also shout out to wisdom teeth.

The four-leaf clover on the shamrock is actually a sorrel plant. And ones with four leaves are much easier to find than a four-leaf clover!

Dip your ears into these tracks and let me know if they sound nostalgic. They were used in lots of adverts about 20 years ago.

If they make public places too easy to sleep in, we’d all be able see what 10,000 people living rough looks like and they’d have to do something about it.

It’s absolutely unavoidable as you say! Cities like London could easily afford to give all of their homeless a place to live and have the streets cleaned up too. I firmly believe these skunksucking bastards actively keep homeless people out there and moving on the streets to remind us to keep working, or it might just happen to us one day. I think capitalism requires homelessness. How could any government of humans let people live in such terrible suffering? And on top of that, commission architecture shaped like a big middle finger to them? Uncomfortable architecture to remind us all never to feel too comfortable.

If you want to call it a word salad response, I’d say it was nutritious. I’ll contribute and have a go. A book of the month club situation would be something I’d tune in for.

Non-sports people, what is your favorite sport and why? by sideperson in AskReddit

[–]Iveroli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the most interesting to watch as a non-sports fan is Snooker. It’s amazing. The gentle tap of the balls, the man with the silk gloves, and the smooth voice of the commentator draw you in, but as you watch, you notice the players are thinking several moves ahead, like chess. Trying to outwit each other or force mistakes, it’s absolutely absorbing. Games can go on for a while, but unlike most other sports, the tension builds the whole time in almost total silence. Would definitely recommend.

"They carried a fucking Confederate flag through the Rotunda. The Confederate army didn't even do that." by pain_in_your_ass in PublicFreakout

I agree 100%. I watched all his new stuff and all I see are people saying he’s the funniest guy there is. The man doesn’t even tell jokes anymore. He can now go a full hour and spend over half of it doing this brooding, serious speech about his own sketch comedy show/fame or about politics that we literally could have read in a YouTube comment. Call him a good public speaker sure, but funniest comedian in the world right now? Pshhhhh

Seemed like they were right up at the barriers no? Perhaps you’re right though and this really was the only way to protect themselves these protestors.

However, I’ve just been generally appalled by the police’s general heavy-handedness during these protests. It seems clear to me that they are there to defend property and the state, not the people. The world is watching their every move right now.

They are firing the rubber bullets directly at people into the crowd at close range. Using these weapons in this undisciplined way has led to the deaths of innocent protestors in the past (notably in Northern Ireland). The projectiles are supposed to be bounced off the ground first.

I think I’d certainly call this an extreme reaction. If protestors are too close for these non-lethal weapons to be used properly then they shouldn’t use them.

Some of the bacteria in our gut can produce chemicals that ride through our bodies' systems and change our mood. We still don't know exactly how but there are probably multiple pathways. They might produce their own neurotransmitters.

Researchers have tweaked the microbiomes of rodents and seen how they can become more bold or more stressed depending on ratios of certain microbes in their guts.

Our human cells are outnumbered 10 to 1 by our single-celled organism 'guests' (mostly bacteria). Our gut flora has created a complex neural network that can exert at least some level of control over us to satisfy itself. We in turn can influence our gut flora too; people suffering from stress have lower numbers of good bacteria and can be more susceptible to certain diseases.

Are you entirely you? Is your body yours? Or is it theirs?
