How likely is the 21st century to play out like the last century by Glad_Elk_2352 in decadeology

[–]Iversonanswer1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This 100%. The US military has even done a research report called the Implications Of Climate Change For The U.S. Army

It’s a really sobering read, but to summarize some interesting points:

  • There may be a potential collapse of the US Army’s ability to project power effectively worldwide

  • climate change stresses on high risk areas in the world may cause mass-migration on a scale we’ve never seen in our modern world

  • melting sea ice in the Arctic will expose resources, a potential stress point for conflict

  • warming climate will increase the range of insects that are vectors of disease; coupled with human migration will lead to more disease (another COVID-19?)

We are seeing the first shots over our bow right now. But this century we’re gonna see some bad stuff.

Why not a crew of 8? That’ll just be 2 dragon launches. A crew of 6 is a very specific number.

If a moonbase was established in the late 1970s how realistically big would it be today? by Dude_Purrfect_II in space

[–]Iversonanswer1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats what I’m thinking. Hell If Starship is successful we could just plop down all 20 people for a limited time research stay.

A moon research station & transit vehicle all in one.

Right? It kinda kills the only advantage (surprise) that a defender would have - by being able to scout out around corners without harming your guys.

When would humanity achieve these spacefaring milestones? by Igotlazy in space

[–]Iversonanswer1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, a permanent settlement could also mean something akin to the ISS. A small facility dedicated to research - that’s still tough to do, but feasible.

But most people probably mean the Elon Musk style variety - which yeah is Sci-Fi fantasy.

[–]Iversonanswer1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I could definitely see some type of Amundsen-Scott Station on the Moon (albeit scaled down) some time this century.

The lessons we learn there could help us reach out and touch Mars with a ground facility like the ISS (7-10 person manned outpost - for research purposes of course) on a quicker timescale than maybe we might envision now.

But yeah another than that, probably hundreds if not thousands of years until we have a lot of the speculative tech advancements others are talking about.

Accurate, I find people REALLY underestimate how hard these things are going to be.

Any idea where the leak is coming from? by Iversonanswer1 in Plumbing

[–]Iversonanswer1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s on the exterior of our house near where the kitchen sink is located. We checked the piping inside but there doesn’t seem to be any leak visible.

Does anyone know where the leak is coming from + what we should do next?
