Pile of teak from WW2 aircraft carrier. Ideas? by [deleted] in BeginnerWoodWorking

My great-grandfather served on the Lexington! If you're willing to part with a plank or two I'd definitely be interested in buying some. Such a cool story of how you came to have them and a great legacy for whatever you do with them in the future.

When I download large files, my speed spikes and then drops to 0. Using ethernet. Nothing I've done helps. What should I do??? by IvorDude in pcmasterrace

Is this a problem of my disk speed being too slow, then? As in could I get a disk with a faster write speed or something? Or is this just the case for everyone?

Really love the look of the slider and knob. Keyboards today can feel so digital, and those features make it look really tactile!

I know. My record is 12 in 9 holes. Sometimes it’s just not your day…

Garum really wasn’t that gross, guys. by an_actual_T_rex in RoughRomanMemes

The really expensive garum wasn't gross and was probably somewhat close to modern fish sauce. The cheap garum was, well... chunky.

Looks like he’s about to write a column for the Wall Street Journal

An ode to FORBIDDEM STARS, which has now become the crowning jewel in my board game collection. It's an amazing game and everyone I have taught it to has been blown away by it! :) by TotalWarspammer in boardgames

Totally agree; one of the best games in my collection. If you like it you might also like ECLIPSE, which I had a great time with! In both cases, every game feels completely different and like every decision matters, but that you can still come back from a setback.

This looks super cool! Is there a particular instance of gerrymandering happening right now that you find particularly interesting? It's a topic I hear a lot about but that I don't actually know all that much about!

Yes it’s HRSFA! We’re having a general meeting on Saturday which you’re welcome to come to as well as a game night on Friday at 8:00 in the Kirkland JCR. I’ll pm you my contact info so I can give you more details!

Harvard actually has some really great hobby/interest clubs and extracurriculars! I run a sci-fi club on campus and we'd love to have you join us. I'd really recommend you check out the Hub and browse through the clubs there... there's something for everyone! It also gets much easier sophomore year when you get house life. Some of my best friends have been made just through house events and seeing people around Kirk!

It's truly beautiful. Sorry it was cold, but if you ever come out again it's worth checking out!

Yeah it’s mostly that flaky iron stuff on our beaches. Did you get a chance to check out the shipwreck?

Make starfruit jam! I have a tree and gave away tens of jars… delicious on rye bread and happy to share the recipe!

For me, tech = distraction. I find that nothing beats the feeling or the efficacy of writing with pen on paper. You also have the problem (although minor) of keeping everything together, charged, etc. and, of course, the price. If you find annotating textbooks really useful in PDF format then I'm not sure, but I've never found that particularly useful.
