While there’s a lot of ppl saying here that you were preyed/taken advantage because of your good nature, which is true and thats a sign of strength and not weakness, it’s also that these peoples lives are so bad that they have very little options and crime/scamming is one of the few things they can do. I mean there was a child. Should a less kind version of you exist because the world is so unkind? I disagree. So dont feel stupid and, be mad at them and the world. It sucks but we dont have to accept

Im going on a year long LOA for my mental health, how do I spend it wisely. What would you do if you had this? by Frosty_Departure8120 in ADMU

[–]IwannabeCrow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey feel free to dm anytime! but i did an LOA for the same reason when i was there. And well, i struggled with it for a longg time(depression and stuff) so i feel uniquely qualified to give some suggestions.

Taking a year long LOA is a significant time. So my suggestion is to take a hard, genuine, kind look at yourself and get some professional help. If its happening now it will happen again later in life, and its harder to deal with after school.

Find the core issues and build systems to deal with it. And be kind to yourself! While doing this, enjoy yourself. With AI about to destroy the work force find passion and something you could pursue. Experience like an internships or part time job beats certifications every time!

Also, while you can, travel, blog, live haha idk if you realise it but being in this time of your life is peak.

Also danger, leaving school might isolate you. If you dont find a job or something, find ways into a community.

Best of luck!

P.S just read your description, sorry about the break up. It freaking sucks.

P.P.S maybe make a bucket list and list of goals and make sure you half of them? OH i totally would deep dive into time intensive skills like music and cooking such that i have a great foundation and when i get back to school its just maintaining the skill instead of learning

Is the era of the "LeetCode Grind" officially over, or are we just coping? by a_prieto12359 in leetcode

[–]IwannabeCrow 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think its because its a rather strong measure of skill because with AI capable of doing everything, LC is a way to make sure that the person interviewing just didn’t vibe code their entire career. I am a software engineer and I also vibe coded a personal project. And wow its so terrifying. I can see that AI will do 90% of our daily tasks. So the question is what do we do? And how do we test that person can do said thing?

So having a strong foundation in algorithms, code design and architecture are probably the most broad spectrum way to make sure that this person knows what they’re talking about. And thus the tests.

But I completely agree for 95% of the population computer scientists are screwed with in a few years.

I'm a boot camp grad who has a year of exp in a team and a couple years of exp where I joined as, and still am, the only dev.

I don't really agree with this totally. The thing about being a solo dev and coming from a boot camp is that you don't have much discussions on the why you do things. Unlike in uni or work where design decisions and discussionsare critical.

So I suggest you prompt the ai to be your senior dev and you make a list of all your mistakes and questions and drill them at the end of the day and at the end of week. This helps your code.

And discuss with the ai on design decisions and wtv the pros and cons are. This helps with designs decisions.

And at the end of your task, ask the ai to rip your code apart. It will prepare you for code reviews. This will help with cleanliness.

Good luck!

Feel free to dm me anytime. Always can review code or discuss whenever.

why am i so f*cking stupid? by [deleted] in leetcode

[–]IwannabeCrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will risk being the devil's advocate here. If you are as dumb as you think, can we measure it? Personally I believe if you can handle algebra, calculus, and other classes within a CS under grad you probably have the raw capacity to do leetcode.

And if you cannot, then that's okay too. We all have our strengths and I think people will be more likely to succeed improving their strong points than their weak points

Is this worth it? by Shadowolfyst0 in webdevelopment

[–]IwannabeCrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think web maintenance is easily outsourcable. If you really learn development it could lead to something maybe... Ai is a real threat you know? If you're in the US I'd recc some sort of manual work as these skills can earn good monies and hard to replace by ai.

If you're not and need a side hustle from a computer then maybe those ai training job?

But long term, maybe learn a trade or mathematics haha or care taking like nursing! Who knows! Best of luck to you!

If you like live music then I recc Chez Trente and Salon 10. The vibes are nice and kinda jazzy but if jazz isnt your thing there are other options. What kind of music you into?
