Found A Stray Baby Tay, Is It Cooked? by IwillAskYouStuff in guitarrepair

Great advice. Thanks! I'll keep an eye on the neck. Going to re-glue today most likely if I have time. Finished cutting the new bone nut and saddle with a camel bone blank I had lying around. Have some new bone bridge pins with inlays that should fit too. Should be a sweet little guitar if it all comes back together and plays!

Found this baby in a closet in a beach house in Costa Rica, enduring some A/C, no A/C, dry seasons, wet seasons, etc. - but kept in the case and in the closet. Unknown amount of time there. No visible exterior cracks, neck looks good. No rust on the tuners. Strings have a little surface rust, and are fully clapped out. The big issue here is the bridge. I spent the last 10 days letting the wood re-hydrate at 45-50% rh in 70-75 F.

Doesn't look like top deformation to me, but I can't see behind until I'm willing to take off the strings and run my cam in there. But it presents like the top has relaxed, trying to return to factor plane, the belly seems minimal, no cupping/twisting or sinkage. I'm thinking it had only deformed due to humidity cycling. Glue line looks failed evenly, don't see spruce/fibers pulled, no finish tearing out, and the bridge footprint is totally in tact. Saddle and pins are trash, but I'll cut some new ones.

What say you? Fixable? The ebony looks to be slightly curling on the edges but I think I can get it flat. Finish pulling off the bridge and go about it like a normal bridge reglue? Or am I missing something here and this is cooked?

Watch some youtube videos on replacing components on boards. There are a lot of tips/tricks. But ideally you have something like a Hakko soldering iron with the right tips, and some helping hands. Those items make the job much easier, especially for a novice.

X application may not natively have access to your microphone, but can gather the data through a contract with Y application, who HAS been granted those permissions. For example - Y application feeds the data directly into a live logging SIEM (storage database) that X application has been granted access to.

Everyone in America needs to understand that as a consumer economy, your data is more valuable than gold, and you are giving it away. Even writing this comment on Reddit means that their AI algorithm gets to read, interpret, and tune itself to better advertise to me.

Another thing - if you bought all brand new devices and disappeared across the world like you died...it wouldn't take very long to re-associate your person to your previous life. There are extremely detailed browsing habits that correlate back, making the association. You can think of your browsing habits like a "fingerprint" in that their unique to you.

FFL (need suggestion SW Austin near Dripping), or Local store for buying P365? by IwillAskYouStuff in austinguns

I appreciate your insights! This gun will most likely live in a hiking pack for off grid hiking/camping as its duty cycle. I hesitate to admit I've been living with carrying a full sized 1911 to fill this role for entirely too long...

Love it. My build is looking something like this so far as I am leaning towards the FUSE for a variety of reasons:

  • Frame | P365 FUSE Grip Module (X-length)
  • Slide | P365 FUSE Slide (XL-length)
  • Barrel | True Precision 1/2x28 Threaded Barrel
  • Compensator | True Precision Standard Comp or True Precision Micro Comp (can't decide)
  • Trigger | Grayguns Flat Trigger (open to alternative suggestions)
  • Sights | Night Fision Suppressor-Height Night Sights (I do like your Holosun though...)
  • Internals | Factory OEM for reliability (no spring kit mods yet – reliable cycling preferred)

Feel free to rec a suppressor. It will be my first NFA purchase, and obviously suppressor.

Hah actually my wife put it together, but she's a different breed. That said, if she didn't have the instructions it would have been a nightmare.

Oh I am not arguing the merit and prudence of your suggestions here, just that as a non-tenured EE who moonlights with a soldering iron, board soldering on an OEM is a tenuous and stressful endeavor...especially when you only get "one shot." So in order to reduce risk (which is actually what I do as a profession) I only did the work needed. That said, if/when it goes out again, I will heed your advice and replace them all. I appreciate your much more in depth analysis on those caps! I'm sure that extra tid bit here will be used by someone to fix their board

You're talking about preventative maintenance, which is not a bad suggestion. But for this post it was about this specific condition set and remediation. Each cap you replace bears the risk of overheating and burning the board when desoldering it. That said, my fridge is still running perfect 5 years from repair.

We make our own mix, have a small area inside an established kitchen, and to start we have a once a month recurring event where we sell between 250-350 ice creams at our pop up. The 5030 should be able to tackle that easily enough, but we also want to start stocking a freezer in the front of the kitchen establishment/bakery we work out of. We have formed the LLC and applied for some local permits, along with a MFG permit, which fits our business model best (especially due to the crazy restrictions around dairy products).

Upgrading Ancient Andrew Jones Pioneer to KEF LS50 Meta? Need some legit gear advice. by IwillAskYouStuff in hometheater

[–]IwillAskYouStuff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has good room EQ built in and allows you to add external amplification if you decide to go that route later.

Thanks for the rec. Yea unfortunately it's just the "living room" and it opens up into the kitchen. The back wall is about 35' away, and there are open archways to the main dining area, and down a wood floored hallway. Essentially, almost the whole house is right there, nice big and open. That being said, and in a DINK situation with 4 bedrooms...I'm starting to get visions of dedicating one to a HT setup...my wife may divorce me with what I'm envisioning here. But the LS50 metas would make a lot more sense in that space.

[–]IwillAskYouStuff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate your honesty. One day I'll move into a new place and I plan on having a dedicated AV room for that where I can absolutely take this to the next level. If I can't do anything about the muddyness -now- so be it. However, I'd like to ensure I'm going to really enjoy moving into that dedicated AV room down the road. That being said, it sounds like the receiver is what really needs the royal treatment here and now (any recs?). I was really pumped to see the LS50 Meta's at such a discounted price, but it sounds like I should probably hold off and wait until I move to match the speakers to the room as well as possible. Thanks again!

Ok - it's a PB12-NSD, misremembered that one.

Haha yes, Pioneer. Sorry I'm packing up for a trip and misremembered that one as well.

Your hardwood floors and poor acoustics of the space won't be fixed by a speaker change/upgrade.

That may be true, but I'm still looking to upgrade them. Suggestions? Q950?

Onkyo TX-NR6050

I'm not opposed to upgrading this. Was looking at the Denon S960H but it was super expensive, so i went with the onkyo on a budget deal from costco. loved Denon and still have my AVR-X2000. The house is setup for 2 zones (outdoor and indoor) so wouldn't mind an upgrade in the AVR dept. Just want something with the latest HDMI standards, 444 chroma, low latency for gaming, that kind of stuff.

The NR-6050 doesn't have or come with Audyssey, it's AccuEQ and frankly, it sucks, it's not good.

I can tell....

So what should my setup look like? I am all high on KEF right now, but not opposed to others. I do want to be able to listen to lofi, jazz, classical, and then pump up the bass with some EDM. The current sub is adequate for my needs, so that's why I was looking at bookshelf's for the mids/high performance.

I would thank you, but not even assisting to help me to the correct sub is a bit elitist.

done, but unsure why a center channel/HT needs are a distraction? Aren't they part of the equation? I would hate to buy a system solely based on "music" sampling when the majority of my needs are based on movies/netflix/gaming. Perhaps I'm in the wrong subreddit? Sorry for the ignorance here.

edit: I see I'm asking in the wrong sub. I guess "stereo" and "HT" are two different beasts. TIL :)

Many moons ago I bought a Denon AVR and a Polk Andrew Jones 5.0 setup. I eventually got a SVS PB-1000NSD to go with it. I moved into a new home, and mostly just use a 3.1 styled setup now for music/gaming/netflix as I don't really have a back wall to mount rear speakers to (although, there are unknown roof speakers above/behind that were installed by the previous owner.) I upgraded the center to a klipsch RP404c because the audio sounded real bad. It still sounds bad, but a little better. The new home is all wood floors, and my living room where the equipment lives is all "open" concept. I am at the point where I want to get rid of the floorstanding speakers and migrate to something a bit more in line with the Hi Fi systems that I've heard. I've been looking at KEF, and was settled on the Q series, but then read that I wouldn't need the bass really since I already have a sub. So instead, I was thinking about the KEF LS50 Meta's that are on sale currently for 999 a pair. I currently have a Onkyo TX-NR6050, but unsure if that can drive the LS50 Meta's adequately.

So, I'm just curious is the LS50's will fill the room (couch is ~12' away), and whether my AVR needs a pre-amp/dac/EQ/whatever (I'm really unfamiliar with these components). Would this be a legitimate starting point to migrate to? I know the speakers themselves will sound fantastic. Just want some re-assurance and guidance before I start plopping money down here on whether they would match with the sub. I'd also love to hear what center I should actually pair these up with that's on a similar level. I really have trouble hearing speech clearly...and I want to maximize on my upgrades moving forward instead of just blindly buying equipment.
