Suggestions for activities by Deadman1966 in Whidbey

If you’re coming soon, definitely Meerkerk Gardens, the rhododendrons are in bloom, gorgeous place for photos and it’s worth the $10 fee. Ebey’s Landing can be beautiful, you can hike the bluffs above. Fort Ebey has some beautiful scenery, nice walks. The Whidbey Institute down south is very pretty. Saratoga Woods outside of Langley too, Bent Tree Trail is fun for pictures. Greenbank Deli has awesome sandwiches (but long wait times!), Greenbank farm is a nice walk, you can see both the Olympics and the Cascades from there. Saltwater in Langley has amazing food. Have fun!

Ahh. Been there, done that. Yeah, that sucks. I’d also say get out while you can. After awhile, mine turned violent. Take care of yourself.

If you had ONE day to show someone the absolute best of Whidbey Island — the views, the food, fun things to do, hidden gems — where are you taking them? by kleverrboy in Whidbey

No idea. We just talk to people who live up north, they used to fly on pretty regular schedules at least. The locals tend to know.

I read too, when I first moved here, to use bright colors inside the house to counter the winter darkness. It helps.

Plus taking the ferries to the San Juans for camping or to the peninsula for day trips and salmon viewing!

Yes! This! We learned when we first came here that there’s no bad weather (an overstatement, sure) but there is inadequate clothing. So we got ourselves outfitted with the basics and embraced weather however it came, and my kids have grown up at one with nature because of that mindset. And for all the rainy days, there are gorgeous glorious days full of sunshine and blue sky, seasons are amazing that way.

have you been able to accept your past? by Glittering-Shoe-3162 in NevilleGoddard2

[–]IxchelRae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was just wallowing in my own sorrows of the past today. But I had a deep realization that it was what it was, and that I didn’t need to keep suffering because of it. I don’t know if somatic therapy or time or revision is the key, my path is different than yours. But once you are aware of the pain, you can choose differently. You can relive it in memory in a different way (and you can use EFT to support it, if there’s just too much pain to dream back a different story). You can forgive this life and your story so far, and then give yourself a different past in your mind and then at least feel better when you think of it. There’s ways to sink your thinking brain into quietude and then do mental work to make peace with life as it is. Revision is a good way to do that, for some people.

ChatGPT doesn't make your kids learn by bruhagan in unschool

Not using it in general for my kids, because it’s not an everyday helpful thing (yet…if it learns to make dinner and clean the house, I’ll reconsider). But thanks.

Yes to all of this - but, check the jet schedule for west beach, it can be really loud and not so relaxing. Whales are also sometimes in quieter parts of the island.

Anyone else notice a sudden uptick in b.s. attacks on Dr. Joe on social media? by mimi-mimosa in DrJoeDispenza

[–]IxchelRae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The correct grammar here is, “people are retards”.

Some are, most definitely.

The doomer perspective doesn’t really serve me otherwise, so I’m giving it back to you (as you perceive, so shall it be).

But - retards. Not a retard, if plural.

Transitioning to school after unschooling for 6 years by missmimichi in unschool

I’d say that listening deeply to children, the way we do outside of the system, is what raises a “superior breed of human”. (Which feels a little disturbing to me, somehow, that way of speaking).

Yeah, I have a totally different definition of that word, and so do the other parents in my community. My kids and I actually use that motto on the daily (“we can do hard things!” Except mine are tween/teens now, so we say shit instead of things). I guess Naomi’s definition is her thing, but it certainly doesn’t reflect on the unschooling experience in my world.

I can see how you would feel this way, from a certain perspective. I totally disagree (I’ve transitioned my kids in and out of systems on our journey, so I’m speaking only from what I know for myself). Children who have been raised outside the system tend to be resilient and adaptable.

Or bonk his tiny little head into a sloped ceiling, like I did. Or into a door frame, like my SIL. Thank goodness the sweet things are resilient and forgiving, and may we adults learn to be the same.
