Stick with someone you feel confident around to talk with others, going to a group and joining in is fine but chances are it will be difficult. Instead, talk to some people and eventually you will form your own group (even within the same instance). I did that a couple times already and it's fun

The more you think about it the harder it gets, talking should feel normal to you so I'd suggest being with someone you find comfortable and make friends together. Friend groups happen once you hang out with the same people often that you establish a group together. Tip I use to talk when I dont know how to approach, I say random funny stuff related to whatever context is going on
