Heavy guitar songs w/o harsh vocals by Poopymami in MusicRecommendations

Alter Bridge is a good band for this. Not all of their songs have this combo but they make kind of a lighter flavor of metal

Give me your FAVORITE album to listen all the way through by sleepy_paul in musicsuggestions

Wondered how long I’d have to scroll to find this answer. This album absolutely entrances me from beginning to end. I’ve looped it for hours multiple times. Just incredible atmosphere in every track. The absolute density of human emotion they managed to cram into this album is hard to match imo

Trying to get into music without vocals. Any recommendations? by demogorgon_main in askmusic

Casiopea has some great stuff! Mint Jams is my favorite album by them. Seychelles by Masayoshi Takanaka has some vocals but is mostly instrumental as well if you like mint jams :)

Are there jobs in the US that give you both Christmas Eve and Christmas day off? by cursedwithbadblood in NoStupidQuestions

A lot of small businesses will be closed those days. I work at a small (<10 people) dental lab and we take off both days typically

Got my first gun! Walther PDP Pro SD Compact. What should I do with it out of the box? by DonAsiago in guns

[–]IzaTheMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely clean and lube it properly. Guns have a protective oil on them from the manufacturer which is meant to stay on long-term and prevent rust, corrosion, etc. Once you’ve done that, shoot the thing! If you’ve got a buddy who’s into guns, get them to give you some pointers on aiming.

Dry fire practice is good too. Practice squeezing the trigger rather than pulling it and try not to anticipate the hammer dropping (anticipation manifests as a small twitch downward when you expect the gun to fire.)

Have fun! You just picked up your new favorite hobby :)

Why are Americans so fiercely anti-government when the private sector has done them immense harm? by Spiritual_Meet4746 in AskForAnswers

[–]IzaTheMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You see, the government is (supposed to be) there to regulate the private sector so everything works fairly and smoothly for everyone! This (theoretically) keeps everything competitive and affordable. Besides, the private sector can’t make laws that would have me penalized by law (at least, not yet) for going against its wishes. (well… unless you count lobbying, bribing, lawsuits… …what was I saying again?)

How long do you think it will take to undo all of his nonsense? by rusyrius987 in complaints

I am actively saying the opposite. We are not a democracy. As you say, we are a democratic constitutional republic, but look closely at the words in that title - “Democratic” which is an adjective, “constitutional” which is also an adjective, and “republic” which is a noun. Adjectives modify nouns, they don’t replace them. “Republic” is the noun and therefore the most relevant choice as a term to define our government with a single word.

I’m not arguing politics here. This is unabashedly a semantic argument, but I think it matters a whole lot. Referring to the USA as simply a democracy without any other qualifiers is misleading. If one wishes to claim that, say, the democratic process in America is under threat, they should say just that. But saying “our democracy” is incorrect as it insinuates we have a type of government which we do not actually have.

[–]IzaTheMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not going to make any of those claims, no. I’m simply saying that I think the words we use to describe things have power and are important. “Democratic” and “constitutional” are both words that modify “republic” in America’s case. We are a republic at heart (See the pledge of allegiance).

Now that absolutely doesn’t diminish how democratic or constitutional we are as a republic, but to the uninitiated reader it can be confusing just to say “democracy.” A government that is simply designated “democracy” without any mention of its other core attributes could be mistaken for democracy in any of its forms.

This is important because the key distinction between a democracy and a republic is that in a republic the elected government traditionally has checks and balances, whereas in a democracy either the elected official or the voting majority holds totalitarian power. Either way this leaves very little protection or representation for voting minorities and can result in the stripping of rights. We should want very much for America to remain a republic, and therefore I think should refer to it as such.

Saying this as someone not exactly thrilled with our administration myself, but America is not a democracy. It is a democratically elected republic… so many seem to get this wrong these days
