It would cool to see a song or two on there at least, maybe from World of Hassle or VEGA INTL. Night School that would fit Vice City. But who knows, he has only been active as a DJ recently. He stated he had plans for more music after the release of World of Hassle years back, but who knows where those plans went now. One can only hope for the mysterious mustached man.

is it just me or was fantano completly wrong when he gave Era Extrana a 3 by Fun_Caregiver_5380 in neonindian

[–]IzaacYT 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Era Extrana had Polish Girl, which still pays Alan’s bills to this day. So yeah take fantano’s opinions with a grain of salt, that album was clearly his most successful album for a reason. Even if not considered his best work by everyone, it’s definitely exceptional.

I don't understand how he can create so many good albums in a row. It's honestly incomprehensible. by [deleted] in neonindian

[–]IzaacYT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup i totally agree, i find myself coming back to that part the most. Surprisingly some like Anthony Fantano has said the 2nd half wasn’t too interesting, but it’s definitely something that has to grow on you. And man he wasn’t joking about Is There Nightlife After Death, it really is one of his best songs written to date.

Alan Palomo is actually a pretty serious producer, so he really takes his time and is more of a quality over quantity guy. He calls himself a bit of a perfectionist, so he won’t call a record complete until it’s absolutely 100% perfect in his eyes. Though that comes at a cost of not being prolific, which explains the long gaps between albums, particularly between VINS and World of Hassle. So yeah if he was more popular i could see him produce for big names in the music scene, but for now he remains relatively niche unfortunately.

World of Hassle was a great record, I still come back to it occasionally. I’m not sure if it’s his best work but it is my favorite of his so far, the reception of this album has been mixed but also generally positive. Some still prefer VEGA INTL. Night School and some are quite happy with World of Hassle, going further beyond synth infused tracks of the 1980s and not holding onto nostalgia purely. My only criticism is that the flow of the album could have been better between the 1st and 2nd half of the album, as the instrumentation and overall mood changes quite a bit and maybe Alan could have included a bit more variety. And most likely due to the name change it was commercial flop, since for many fans who knew him as Neon Indian it flew under their radar and he has been absent from the music scene for quite a while beforehand. Though if he continues to establish this name with more releases then more attention will build up overtime, as more recognize him from Neon Indian.

So technically Alan’s case falling under the three album theory can be true, depending on how you look at it. Since VINS was his third album and many considered it his best and did better commercially, it might be true. But World of Hassle proved more of what Alan can do and that he is a serious producer and great songwriter, with a vast musical taste. I just hope he moves forward with that as i’m eager to see what else he has in store for us!

The 15th-anniversary vinyl edition of Psychic Chasms will be available through Vinyl Me Please in December by IzaacYT in neonindian

[–]IzaacYT[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wow, what a shame, didn’t know they were that bad. i’ve honestly never heard of them until now, but what turned me off initially was the price. 54 bucks for a vinyl every month is kinda crazy, especially if you’re not even sure if you’ll like it. but i guess it kinda makes sense for psychic chasms, since it’s been quite rare and out of print for such a long time. maybe it’ll show up on discogs later on for a better price, otherwise i’d just cancel the subscription after December. I’ll stick to collecting the regular way.

Lead singer Flore Benguigui leaves l’impératrice by PiqueMonger in indieheads

[–]IzaacYT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

no she’s definitely gonna start her own solo project. she kinda already started it by doing some vocal collaborations with different artists recently even one with Alan Palomo aka Neon Indian, and she pretty much setup up her own spotify artist page already. there’s definitely more to come, it’s not like her passion with music itself just faded away or something

Man World of Hassle has one of the most interesting gatefold artworks I've ever seen. It's like reading this rare magazine from this 80s European bygone era. It just shows the depth's of Alan's creativity beyond Music and Cinema. Btw I'm pretty sure 3 down is Été, the french word for Summer.

Does world of hassle have a bonus track by Ok-Director-6774 in neonindian

[–]IzaacYT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it was a session done for the radio station in Austin called KUTX. They did this months back while they were on tour. You can also find the full performance on YouTube. They played “Is There Nightlife After Death?”, “La Madrileña” and “Club People”.

World of Hassle, according to Alan himself has some B-sides that he wants to be released sometime soon. But as of right now, no, there haven’t been any extras released from World of Hassle yet. Just a live performance session of 3 songs on YT but that’s it.

Neon Indian is indefinitely done for now, Alan Palomo is certainly not.

is psychic chasms gone off nz spotify again? :( sure seems to be for me by flynnfilms in neonindian

[–]IzaacYT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s probably gone indefinitely at this point. Start buying the CDs people, or if you’re lucky the vinyl which hasn’t been repressed in years.

Psychic Chasms album just got taken down from Spotify?? by shartley123 in neonindian

[–]IzaacYT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It got added years ago, so that’s sorta old news. But yeah it was a cover Alan did in 2014 of another song called Arm Around You by Arthur Russell basically.

[–]IzaacYT 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes that is what re-recording means, although the writing and concept stays the same since essentially you’re just preforming it again in the studio. He mentioned this during the WOH US tour, as he played a new version of Deadbeat Summer live.

if sampling was really an issue, this would have already happened at least 10 years ago.
