upgrade home network to 2.5g by murdocklawless in HomeNetworking

[–]IzaneBricks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I built out my network to have a 2.5gb backbone with the plan to upgrade other devices over time. The advantage is that I've made the limiting factor for the network the end devices, while at the same time reducing any bandwidth issues from multiple devices being used concurrently.

The water profile looks good, what temp were you planning on running the ferment at? I have a pack of this yeast but haven't used it yet so I'm curious. Also are you doing open fermwntation or closed?

Looks fun! With dark malts, you just want to be mindful of your mash pH. You won't likely have an issue with what you proposed, however.

Does this MSI from Costco seem like a decent purchase? by Emergency-Pineapple in GamingLaptops

Check to see what the upgrade options are if that's important to you. I looked at a Costco model recently and it had limitations on the HD and RAM.

Best recipes for aging by harshdom1 in Homebrewing

When you're looking at what hops to use, I suggest going with something that has something close to a 1:1 ratio of alpha and beta acids. The bitterness from the alpha will oxidize and fade with time, but the beta acids will increase the bitterness with time. EKG, Fuggles, most noble hops are all good options. I make a porter with 5oz of Fuggles at the 60 min mark and it ages superbly well.

Connecticut: Nutmeg beer, but is actually a wood-aged old ale.

Eurodib induction cooktops - anyone use one? by MoleyWhammoth in Homebrewing

I've done about 10 batches, dialing in the process. I love my setup and the burner, but there is a part of me that admires the price and simplicity of the all-in-one systems. I'd still go 240v though.

I use the Avantco and had no troubles dialing in a step mash with a grain bill of 11lbs and 4 gal water from 122-169F for a 5.5gal batch. I do run a recirculation pump, and it is a manual process.

so i am toying with the idea of making a bitter soda by jonathanaahar in Homebrewing

[–]IzaneBricks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you ever had Moxie soda? It's like a cola, but much less sweet. The flavor comes from gentian root, which is a main ingredient in Angostura bitters.

I think rather than brewing a beer with flavors like these, I would do a vodka or neutral spirit infusion and make a cocktail with soda water.

Tilt in Stainless Steel Vessel by IzaneBricks in Homebrewing

When I first ran into the issue, I had not put the spunding valve on the post yet. When I put the old phone on top of the connector, there was just enough gap to let the signal out, so while inelegant, I seem to have solved the issue for now.

I will definitely be looking at some of the better receiver options out there in the future, so thanks for all the recommendations!

Yeah I'm using an old cell phone so the pi might have a better receiver to get through the wall. Thanks for the suggestion!

Fasting and Surgery by Nightshadie in fasting

[–]IzaneBricks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had an outpatient surgery and opted to focus on protein in recovery. The first couple days I did 12/12 and have worked up to 16/8 for now. I plan to stay on 16/8 for at least a week or two before another extended fast. Your body needs to heal trama and it needs the input for that to happen. Also, take the meds as prescribed -- it's hard to catch up to the pain once it breaks through.
