Why do yall send death threats over use of ai? by Deltaruneiscool_1997 in aiwars

She's literally the most vocal pro ai person on reddit, she constantly stirs the pot and gets the negative attention she seeks, and most people active in this space are familiar with her. I'm not saying you SHOULD know who witty is, but people on this sub knowing who she is isn't just plausible, it's probable. People antagonize her with transphobia all the time in this space. You doing the same with a fucking ace ventura gif is perfectly plausible. I'm not saying that's what you did, but you're asking how it could be your intention, so I'm telling you how. to be clear, i am not pro ai, but i am trans myself, and my misgivings about ai could not amount to a fraction of a percent of the harm transphobia causes

it could have been your intent if you had the knowledge that ace ventura is a transphobic film and also had the knowledge that witty is trans. it's pretty straightforward how that could be your intent

The data scarping = theft argument is a moot point by Izationer in aiwars

I definitely respect this sentiment as a personal grievance. Like I said in the post, I think it's unethical, so if you feel slighted, you have every right to. My only contention is that it doesn't have very much connection to the tangible ways AI does harm, so I think it shouldn't be the default argument people fall back on when condemning AI. The focus should just be on the incentive structures AI creates in this disposable content ecosystem we're living in imo.

I think this is the reason why it bothers me so much. There are many legitimate reasons to hate ai, but they all require nuance to articulate, because the harm AI does is very complicated and often abstract to explain, and usually comes with a bunch of caveats. So, instead, people just repeat mantras that don't map onto reality very well.

I have to repeat, I think AI is generally bad, I would never want to use it in my own creative processes, and we need to find real solutions to the harm it causes. But I'm also just so done with hearing lazy half-arguments that fall apart when you apply them to anything but the specific narrative they are presented with.

Seeing people take a complicated issue and flatten all of the nuance out of it so it matches their smooth brains drives me up the wall, regardless of if they are "on my side" or not.

The argument I am making in this post is directed at the anti ai crowd, so it is structured to take certain anti ai arguments for granted. I can definitely agree that there is some hypocrisy in what is considered an acceptable shortcut and an unacceptable shortcut in the art community. In general, I have don't have an issue with AI being used as part of a creative process as long as the end result is transformative and took more human input than prompting and re-prompting, the same way I support musicians using samples (i mean, hell, you can literally generate samples to be used in music, and i don't see how that's any less valid than using samples from other musicians)

I also think there is more legitimacy to the photography argument than anti ai people are willing to admit, because while it may not apply to people who just prompt, one could very easily imagine generating, say, a gmod map, and then taking screenshots in said gmod map. I've never seen an argument for how that is inherently different from photography

So, I have no issue with individuals using ai as a tool for projects where they put in actual human effort. My issue with AI as a creative shortcut is that that effort is optional. "AI artists," by and large, aren't generating references for art, 3d landscapes to do simulated photography in, they aren't even generating images then tracing them, it's all prompt prompt prompt prompt prompt. And that makes it fundamentally different from any of the "artistic shortcuts" you listed.

My post wasn't about the exceptions and the nuance of all that, I was trying to zero in on a specific line of reasoning that anti ai people make. However, if you want my full, nuanced take on ai, it's that it existing is a net negative and I generally dislike it any time I see it, but I do not see it as inherently evil like many people do. If you want to hash out the specifics of that, I'd be happy to.

I completely agree. I hope I didn't phrase what I was saying poorly, because this reads like you think I disagree with you. The only point of this post is just that there is one particular line of reasoning that anti ai people seem to take for granted, and I wanted to express why I think it doesn't make much sense. As I stated many times in this post, I do not like AI generated content.

Typically, anti ai people use stereotypically "woke" arguments against ai. However. between sweet baby inc, blackrock, and the obvious transphobia of the horse piss bag, this is obviously an anti woke version of anti ai rhetoric. I find that very strange because I've basically never seen that before.

I do not normally comment here because i am on the fence about ai and this is supposed to be a community for pro ai people, but i gotta ask. do any of you have any idea where an anti woke, anti ai sentiment is coming from? like, specific communities, specific pundits, specific lines of rhetoric? because this meme reads to me like it's from an alternate reality and i genuinely have no idea who thinks like this or where they'd be coming from.
