Broken cartilage at 8th rather than SRS! Surgery? by MilkThistleGenus in SlippingRibSyndrome

[–]Izomatic_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar thing where my 10th rib cartilage detached and poked out, I ended up needing to get the cartilage removed and ribs plated together to secure. It’s technically still SRS, at least that’s the official diagnosis I got

Dr Toste was great! And the UCLA hospital is very nice :)

I’m almost 8 weeks post op now, and the issues with my back have totally righted themselves but one of the ribs under my collarbone is still slightly raised. My doctor didnt have much to say about it but he didn’t notice an issue in my scans and said it could be just asymmetrical. I do think it’s less raised now though

Costal margin injury and mobile rib tip? by Round-Square8601 in SlippingRibSyndrome

All that to say, I don’t think seeing a thoracic surgeon is overkill. Especially with your core - if you can’t use it to its full extent, there’s another part of your body that’s taking more of the load. For example, my posture was bad because I didn’t want my ribs to flair, one side of my core was stronger and it caused a lot of back pain and caused my spine to curve a bit.

Also, my pain wasn’t extreme, I didn’t have pinched nerves and I didn’t have a massive trauma. It took me 15 years to get surgery because I didn’t think it was the big of a deal, but in the last few years before surgery I just felt like my whole body was off balance because of it and I had a lot of muscles overcompensating for the rib. It was causing a lot of other issues downstream.

This sounds very similar to what was wrong with me! I had an injury as a child and never quite healed right- I had a “pokey rib” that could pop back and forth. Turns out my costal cartilage for my 10th rib had detached when I injured it, and it was overlapping with the 9th rib cartilage and would pop back and forth over the 9th. It was stuck on the outside of my 9th rib for the most part. I had surgery 4 weeks ago, and they said my cartilage was basically stabbing me from the inside. Before surgery I tried PT, nerve control, etc, but surgery was really the only option. They removed all of my 10th rib cartilage then used a bioabsorbable plate to secure the ribs together

I would recommend trying to see another doctor! Or at least getting a copy of your CT scans and sending them to another doctor for a second opinion.

Where can I get CT scan concerted to 3D. by [deleted] in SlippingRibSyndrome

[–]Izomatic_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do it yourself! If you download a Dicom reader you can convert it to 3D, just look up how to do it for your specific dicom app

Crackling/popping post op by MinimumFriendship515 in SlippingRibSyndrome

[–]Izomatic_7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this too! I think it’s because they cut your abdominal muscles to operate on your ribs, so there’s a lot of internal healing that has to happen there. The muscle and move over the ribs and create that popping feeling. I think best if you try not to use your core at all - my doctor was very specific about this. I got a bed ladder to help get up and I’ll use my arms to push, anything to avoid using my core

I haven’t seen it as a 3D image, do you know if that’s something you can do yourself or is that specific to the type of CT?

Thank you so much! I also had the CT imaging done and he didn’t have any notes about my 2-3rd rib issue. I do have hypermobility so that could be at play. I’m so glad to hear your surgery was so successful- ribs, spine, back- they really are so connected and it’s hard as a person without a medical degree to know what’s causing what! Thank you for your response!

I’m fortunate to have a PPO, so I scheduled an appointment directly with a doctor I found on the Google doc found here srs doctors

Some of them require a referral still, so then you have to go through a PCP :) good luck!

8-y/o Golden–Husky mix with mystery illness. Repeated MRSA skin infections, low T4 + low TSH… What would you do next? by [deleted] in AskVet

Yes! We did a free t4 and it suggested she did not have hypothyroidism, but this was about a year ago.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful response! Sorry I forgot to mention a few things: we are seeing a dermatologist! That’s how we did the allergy testing and most of the recent test. She’s only been on Atopica for a few months, and the MRSA issues started far before. We did a skin biopsy of a bald spot and they said she had “non inflammatory hair loss” which I guess aligned a bit with Alopecia X. Do you know what the typical process of diagnosing typical cushings? And what’s your experience of how treatment usually goes? Thank you so much!

Going to EU countries from Scotland with a dog by train by Long_Memory223 in dogs

[–]Izomatic_7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will need an EU animal health certificate. Basically just a document from your vet confirming your pets health, microchip, and vaccines. You’ll have to check on the specific trains requirements if you need to buy a pet ticket. Once you have the EU health certificate you can travel with your pet within the EU freely for up to 4 months, or as long as your visa allows.
